Solution for Running High FSB on NF7-S with 333FSB CPU's

Well, should be more specific...the Asus would originally not post at 211...after the mod it did. The Abit was stable at 221...anything after was crap...I tried 230 and could get into windows but would soon crash...Hope this helps

Hey this is my first post her at Xtreme! So dont be to hard on me. But u say u can run the asus A7N8X at 220fsb? But the max is 211fsb or am I wrong? Aha reading the last part of our post I see u made it run att 211fsb but that is the max right? Or can u mod it to go higher?

edit: is there a PCI and AGP lock on this Abit board? If not how do u guys run those xtreme high fsb without problems?

The Asus only goes to 211 for now, and yes, the PCI is fixed on the ABIT.

for now? Do you mean that in the future there might be a bios that enables higher fsb:s?

hmm can't boot on FSB > 210 with my 8RDA+ and 2400+... installed a fan on northbridge and its pretty cool now.Have a 256MB Corsair DDR433 stick, any idea ? :/

You wouldnt happen to have 3 sticks of some PC3500/3200 around, would you opp?

I have yet to see anyone test 3 sticks for stability...

Now I just gotta sell my subwoofers and get a new mobo 8-)

If all the bridges were closed, would that make them 200mhz FSB processors? 8-)

You shouldnt have any probs with the voltages. Yeah 2.7v might be on the low side but its a SOLID 2.7v;). 220 fsb shouldnt be a prob at all.

I was actually trying to jsut generalize to make it all shorter...we did try that Abit at 220 with succes. the Asus wasnt running the 220 fsb, it was the 211 like it says at the bottom...as far as i know there is no way to make the a7n8x run higher than that....good luck

Like everyone else, we're overwhelmed by this result, never had an inkling bridge function research could lead to this. Question now is why/how??? We can only guess as it puts us in area of little if any experience/knowledge, but here goes.

"Assuming" the higher Host Clocking causes lower Multipliers then "maybe" the Northbridge sets slightly more conservative system setup timings, cause we know that Northbridge sets timings as function of the Multiplier setting which it gets through a different set of socket pins...though the datasheets say the code sent to NB is the same for all Multipliers 12.5X and higher, so have to factor that in. OTOH the NB must have to factor in the Host Clock frequency as well when selecting system timings, but since timings are probably setup in "tables" with nonlinear "step sizes", then "maybe" the process just jumps into settings that are slightly more conservative. Just stabbing around the NB cause we know it has a hand in system timings which should affect where memory craps out...but no knowlege of specific details.

Only other area we can think of is in the clock generator itself...is it at all possible that "?posting?" at the lower 133MHz Host Clock has some effect that carries over to the final 200+ clocking?? Are the clock gen's "clock signals" different?? Anybody's guesses are as good as these. Have at it, is there an IT with EE background with knowledge of NB operation around??

What is the relationship of CPU, NB and CLOCK GENERATOR as far as setting dividers? Would it be even remotely possible to affect the divider via CPU modifications? For example, the KD7 where 1/6 divider showed in bios but was not functional? Just a thought brought on by your statement about possible Clock Generator involvement.

Anyway...I'm researching the possiblity of moving down your way within the next couple of years! Thinking of Mrytle Beach SC...I need to be near the ocean (in my blood) and that area seems good as far as economy, housing and employment.:D

No detailed ideas, but doubt that clock gen is involved in "setting" dividers, it should be just in the output loop not the input loop in that particular decision process.

We were just guessing that with different/133 input to the post/boot loop something might be different in the subsequent "process". Now thinking of possibility of 2 system timing Tables in the NB that perhaps do not generate the same wait states for similar clocking. Something has to be "different" to enable memory to oc better....but what??

is everyone using the exacto knife to cut the bridge or are u guys blowing the bridge using a psu. please reply as i can only run low 190 with my xp2600 333fsb and an a7n8x. thanks

Seemed to have worked on my 8rda+. I haven't pushed it that much yet, but it is already doing better than before. The exacto procedure was easy if you use a magnifying glass and are very carefull.

I personally used an exacto knife and I am assuming others used this too...I have no clue how you would "blow the bridge" with a psu. Good luck with this.

Re the "opening tool"....agree with all comments except the "tip of the tool". Opening is done best if you carefully and gradually "wear away" material. So we epoxied diamond coated rotary burr into a tube for use by hand writing number "ones" across the bridge. Much better control than knives, ceramics no problem. Get finest tip with narrowest conical angled burr from your obliging dentist, or hdwe or hobby shop.

this does work!! my max fsb went from 193 to 207
i can post at 211 but cannot run 3d mark. it will run 3d mark at 207. thanks all for the info

I havent seen any sandra memory benches yet at 215+ fsb, is that something you guys can post?

Im in the market for this board, but i´d like to see some benches.

Also, no problems with 9700 on high fsb? I know the agp can be locked at different speeds, but i gotta ask anyway :P
