Those of you considering 2GB kits-Might wanna check this out!

He guys, new member here. Definately new to OCing. Just finished my first computer build last week. Right now I have a Gig worth of Corsair Value RAM cause I was undecided on the RAM. This is the kind of thread I needed, I'm definately wanting 2GB thanks to BF2.

I was going to order the sticks tomorrow when paycheck comes and I was either going to go with

According to newegg, the OCZs run CAS 2 at 3200 speed, that would lead me to think there's enough headroom to run at 4000 speed with looser timings.

Has anyone seen, read, or tried the OCZ kit posted above? I'd really like to save a $100.00 if I can. I'm anxiously keeping an eye on this thread. Starting to think I should wait a while and see more results from others.

Any help on this guys is greatly appreciated

be careful Kman in your assumptions. MOST and I mean 90+% of existing 1GB modules will not run much over 205-215mhz even with loose timings. Some will, and this is starting to open up. Ballistix will but is very $$$$. This memory I'm testing will, and should be released within a week or so.

Yes! that's true. My Patriot 2 X 1GB PC3200 at 2-3-2-5 will only run at cas2 upto 204 and to 2.5-3-3-x or 3-3-3-x upto 218MHz and no more.
Crucial ballistix will do DDR500 but at 3-4-4-8, and if you are lucky to get a good kit, maybe tighter at 3-3-3-8.
I'm also holding off to see more availability of 2GB memory before getting rid of this bastard.
The big question now is JNav89GT. What is the make of the memory you are reviewing? What will be the rated Speed & timing for that memory?
I just need something that will guantee 2.5/3-3-3-8 at DDR500. That will do for me.

im pretty darn sure the ocz cas 3-3-3 2x1gb set will oc farther i read that somewhere i will try to find it

something about the lower latency set having no headroom some elixer chips or something but the other has nicer chips like hynix that can only run cas 3 but will oc further tho ill try to find that as im not positive on it

I didn't read through all the posts but just by looking at the comparison screenies....it appears that 4x512MB even at 2T still didn't get its floor wipe by 2x1GB 1T at the same memclock. I was running the mushkin redline xp4000 4x512MB 2T up to 266 @2-2-2-6 with only 3.5v...only lost about 40 seconds on superpi 32M when compared to 2x512MB 1T, I wonder how high can those 2x1GB 1T run up to? very interesting results though....

Very select micron if it is in fact micron...no -5B D has done 250 2.5-3-3-8 on our list yet. I wouldn't be surprised if this were something new.

I'm fairly new to OCing, I have a question to you guys abotu timing.

When you guys tweak the timings on the memory, do you only play with the CAS latency, Trcd, Trrd and Tras, or do you make changes to those and the rest of the available parameters? I've been wondering that all day. My goal is 270, but I haven't been able to get higher than 250 at 3-3-3-8, but I haven't really inteligenty tried. Still don't have the know how to really do it I think.

Any input on this would be appreciated, thanks

can it do 2-3-2 like the current set? if not I'll be grabbing the current set right now bigtoe. Not interested in 2.5 3 3 tbh. I guess I could wait though, heh. it's prob gonna cost alot :( Hopefully it's only $280 or I won't be getting it :(

I have asked some OCZ reps in the past about these sticks and they advised me to get a different set of OCZ sticks that were rated at 3338 I believe. They said the sticks with 2325 rating did not have much headroom and would not OC very high.
