Why is it a turn off? You just plug 4-pin ATX12V connector. Not many good ATX PSUs (with SATA and PCI-E) have 8-pin power connector, yet. When you look closely, you'll even see how to plug 4-pin in there ;)

EDIT: Actually, I think there's one PSU that I know of that has all those features - PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 850 SSI. So, I don't think DFI will be requiring those PSUs... For others, there are adapters or just plugging 4-pin in there directly ;)

Yes - the NF4 series were rather hectic. I was browsing the DFI website and found S939 as an option in their menu. While nothing was actually there, it meant the board is coming out soon.

The thread turned out to be a rather long and funny one :up:

With this board I see only 2 issues; a) Feeding of 5V will be pretty fun to cool if running 2.5V and not knowing one should cool it (newbie) b) Getting rid of old NF4 in time :)

My Silverstone Zeus does. It came with an adapter to make it a a P4 4 plug.

Does the Enermax All-in-One series count as a good ATX PSU?? I just got one and it has the 8-pin power connector. :D

Overall pretty exciting stuff. No doubt DFI will will be near the top of the performance heap of mobos sporting the same chipset.

I'm hopeful the chipset will offer the same high HTT as the DFI NF4 mobos, but I think I recall back in November when the 200 Express debuted, Anandtech getting the HTT to 280ish 1:1 and reporting the ATI labs at over 310+ with single sided memory sticks. Maybe things have evolved since then, but the only things I've noticed since then were the pretty pictures from Cebit and the WR from Macci when he visited the ATI offices. Hopefully I've just missed the posts with XS members and with NDAs and mobos in hand putting up some freaky numbers. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction ... :)

Random thoughts over morning coffee:

8-pin Cnx - yes, a 4-pin 12V connector can be plugged in here, but I like the 8-pin being there :D

It looks like they've gone to a 4-phase Vcore solution - GOOD :D

It looks like they've gone to a switcher solution for Vmem - good IF they've got the freq up on it and the output filtered properly... also looks like they've changed their Vtt circuit, very promising - hope it too was done properly.

Regarding CPU socket orientation/DIMM placement - they had to move the DIMMs to fit everything on the board and the CPU had to rotate due to signal routing between the CPU and memory.

They kept that crummy chipset fan :( But with the PCIe spacing looks like a nice waterblock will fit now :D

Overall - promising but still Qs... and which SB are they using?

Word! I had a lot of fun with my boards before the DFI, Vmods and so, but now everyone can buy this and can oc like hell, nothing special anymore. i'm bored...

What an elegant way to point to the fact that this board is released in a different manner than previous boards.

Maybe we'll have those post-NDA benches some time soon, given this thread is started rather early. Maybe we'll even get them in this very thread. Could be nice with a well organized release. If I were macci I would have begged my ass off when visiting Castle Grayskull to get a board with me home :D

Zippy 700w comes with 8pin and 4pin for those too :)
As for having those 8pin, it might be really good idea if PSU has 3+ rails as that extra 4 pin is for dual cpu usage really. With all these dual cores, it might help reach more stability with higher overclock.

The board looks promosing.. Hope its even better then the nf4 with its oc potentials.

Question. What South Bridge is it useing? ATI or ULI ?

are you sure... mine doesn't have the 8pin

anyways the board looks sweet but only thing is i don't like the ram location..
and it better not have the 8pin connector cause i ant go'n to buy a new psu

the 8pin is there for a reason. If its meant for total stability and overclockability and we only plug in a 4pin we might have all sorts of stability issues.
