Hotter is a result of more voltage so we don't intend on making it hotter but we know what the end result is because of higher voltage. Just as you apply higher vcore, you know the the cpu will get hotter and also produce more mhz to a point where the heat can't be dissipated. That is why we buy bigger and better HSF, water cooling and chilling units. If you can remove the heat, you will be able to extract more performance. It is proven all over the place.

I believe the nForce2 boards will be the board to beat in the long term. One thing you must remember is that the increased bandwidth of it's excellent Dual Channel DDR design is not being represented in SiSoft sandra very well....a way we as enthusiasts judge our boards. As a matter of fact....most are showing 3200MB/S maxed out at 211Mhz. Not impressive by any means....for Sandra. BUT...take a look at bandwidth sensitive benches such as PiFast...or Hexus PiFast challenge and check out sysfailur's incredible bench at only 2500Mhz on an ASUS nForce board, he's deep in previously only Intel territory.

In the Hexus review....check out how close (3fps) that 2 gig AMD is to the 2.53Ghz Pee-4, 370 to 374. Intel will no longer own that bench once someone benches it at the same speed(2.5 gigs) I'd dare say a 2500mhz T-Bred on that board would land in the 425 to 450fps range...damn impressive even if only speculating.

The other clue to how much better it is is right in Hexus own benches over the EPoX Kt-400 board at identical settings:

Pifast...5secs+
SETI...8 minutes faster
3DMark....700 points
VOJ demo 9 FPS faster
Quake 3...370 to 324fsp
Other tests were within points....but you see my point:)

For a gaming rig or doing bandwidth sensitive stuff...the nForce will in time be the boards to beat:)

I think your attempting condescension here, other then that I don't think attributes of the nForce 2 such as Twinbank, or Dual DDR memory architecture are "hype to the tenth degree", nor do I believe everything I read. Otherwise I'd be "irate" with you for that hostile comment. I simply reiterated some benchmark verifiable attributes of the chipset, the results of which can be found in recent reviews of the nForce 2.
Your point is unclear, are you defending the attributes of the KT400 chipset over the nForce 2, or simply pointing out I'm a "novice"? The former would be naive, the latter only exemplifies a need to preach (or project), even via insults. (pun intended)

By the by, I read over a month ago at Epox's site that these boards (8RDA nForce 2/8K9A KT400) had the capability to unlock the mutiplier in BIOS, but I waited until the actual production boards got into the hands of reviewers until I made a purchase. Back then it was "hype" to me.
I guess as a "novice" I'm not yet jaded by the industry, I've only been using PC's since 1987, so I still tend to beleive some of what the manufacturers say.
I only wish I'd read that review at Hexus earlier. What a waste of time and space responding to an attack. Unless of course the reason Ace-a-rue scolded me was over protectiveness. In that case I apologize. Of course now I have the opportunity to buy an nForce 2 next month, and do my own comparison.

Sorry bro I had 3 nFORCE boards - all ran better than ANY VIA board I EVER owned...

Once I can afford nFORCE2 - the relationship I have with VIA currently will be completely severed...

Rock solid performance goes deeper than a simple benchmark.. I'm talking less bug issues and yes nFORCE is still new - but it's ceiling of potential far out runs anything VIA can do today.. bar none.

A good review in anyones eyes doesn't make it the board to beat. Not until you get into your little grubby:) (humor, hint hint):D computer hands and then give it a run for its money.

If you o/c a 2400, 2600, 2700 & 2800 on any of the KT333, KT400 or N2 boards it will rock when it comes to a P4 system. I am not a sole P4 user. I started my computer life with an Intel 486DX becasue I didn't know any better. I immediately jumped to Cyrix cpu's and then to AMD racks and still have an AMD duallie. It rules but not in memory bandwidth.

As for Sandra not fully testing a dual memory system, we will have to see if Sandra provides an update to their Memory Benchmark. Of course, all of this testing is sort of synthethic becasue of all of us have different memory, processors (maybe chilled or air cooled) and drives (Vmods) that will affect the overall output performance. So, beware of the results. And when you get ready to post your results, I will want to see the statement from all of you that is has been tested 24 hours consecutively with Prime95 & looped for 24 hours with 3D2001.

Yeah, some of us show pictures of benchmarks that are done with a new OS installed but most don't field test it with Prime 95 or 3D2001. So, the max FSB is most likely going to be less. Just as I can show you a max FSB (156) on my P4 Rdram with a pic of Sandra Memory bandwidth that shots holes in any AMD machine. But, is it reliable or stable at that speed?! Heck no!! I have to back it off 8 mhz on the FSB in order to do the 24 hour Prime 95 & 3D2001, which in affect lowers my Sandra Memory bench from 3900+ to 3600+.

I plan to get either a N2 or the KT400a board. I will wait for all the players (m/b makers) to strut their stuff before I jump on any band wagon.:)

You can certainly hope.:) But, to make them think what you would want can be totally opposite of what they do.;)

If Abit doesn't deliver the voltages, collectively we can find the Vmods. I am sure MrIcee will lead the way along with OPP. It will be interesting to say the least!:)
