Possibly... this is obviously all speculation at this point but there are 256 MB versions of the 6200 and 6600 NU available which would at least partially help that problem. But if you really wanted performance you'd got for a higher end card, I think this possibility would be nice just as a value option not to replace high-end performance.Quote:

ok - i'm going on the hunt again for a 6600 bios that will comply with nvflash and hopefully work on my 6200...i'll post back in a while with my success (or failure, but lets hope success :D ). And yes Ackbar, my handle does represent the group Alter Bridge :toast:

Interesting... I found a few bioses that work on my card when I use VGABios but... I did not want to flash since when I tried using VGAbios on the "backup" I created of my own bios it would not work saying that there was a "checksum error". I tried reading my backup bios I created in NiBiTor and it stated that my bios was incompatible so at the moment unless I can get a good backup bios I am hesitant to flash... I know how to get the bios out of the gigabyte thing, I'll PM you. I think this will work!Quote:

I hope you figure this out. I just ordered one with a DFI NF4-Ultra, PS, and case. I'm just gonna mess around with it until prices for the x800XLs come down.
edit- does Nibitor work with the 6200?
unfortunately, nibitor doesn't work with 6200 bioses...but it does with the 6600's...anyways, i'm experiencing some weird things here...the flash was succesfull, but it seems that the card only "half" took it...like, i get in windows, and it recognizes Video Card but when i go to install nvidia drivers it says "can't find appropriate device, installation aborted". So, i instead force-fed the driver to it in 6600 flavour...now it refreshes the screen a lot (blacks out and comes back) whenever i do something in relevance to the video card...i checked my "Version" with nvflash and it was very strange..it told me the device was GeForce 6200 but the chipset was a GeForce 6600. So i think the additional voltage is leading to the much higher overclocks,however, i think i need to still allow windows to think its a GeForce 6200 to get appropriate functionality. I'm going to experiment more tomorrow, as i'm dead tired and its 2:00AM where i am. Have a good night, i'll be back tomorrow with updates.
Interesting... so did you find that your max overclock improved as a result of the flash? I'm not sure about the 2d/3d thing... maybe that's not an option with your drivers. btw- what are you using when i use coolbits it doesn't look like that.Quote:

ok, sadly, i had to flash back to my original backed up firmware. My card just didn't like the 6600 firmware - was blacking out, not showing 2d/3d in coolbits modded drivers...i dunno, it was odd...maybe another 6600nu bios will work better...i'll have to see if i can find one...until then, i'm going to look into that voltage mod..see what i can do...as seen while it had the 6600 bios, with some additional voltage, this baby will fly! :D
I've got another 6600 NU bios (non-gigabyte) and some other Gigabyte ones of various revisions. If you have some time, maybe trying one of the earlier (or later) revision gigabyte ones might work out. PM me if you want links to some of those other bioses. BTW - did you happen have a problem using VGAbios on your original (backup) bios? I did and that's why I'm hesitant to flash mine just yet. If I found out that you had the same problem I would probably be willing to try it out.Quote:

Look at the "6200UP-8X CT"... notice anything about its ram? DDR3! I wish we could get one of those in the states. I don't think it would be worth buying one from them, would have no idea what the brand is and warranty and such would be impossible.

is your system running at stock in those benchmarks? (other than the gcard) my 6800nu only gets 18.5k in a 3dmark01 run all system @ stock.
the 18.5k is at stock FX55 speeds - the 20.5k is with my FX55 at 3.2ghz.
Hmm... I attempted to flash last night but many anomalous things started to occur... so I didn't get anywhere with it. I'm curious if what you're noticing with the ability to overclock more is due to the bios or a voltage increase. NiBiTor doesn't seem to allow me to look at the voltages on the 6600 bios so I can't tell what the 6600 voltages are set to. I'd like to try the v-mod on memory since I think the memory speeds are what are really holding us back.Quote:

I'd wager to say that it could be done without too much work just by following what people have done with their 6600 NU (or maybe even GT). I think there must be a software based solution though... maybe we can submit our 6200 bios to one of those bios hackers on this forum and ask them to check it out. Maybe there's a simplier more elegant solution to increasing the voltage or maybe a way to get the 6600 bios to work for us.Quote:

You should send your bios over to the guys at mvktech.net. Maybe they could get nibitor support for it.
good idea BDB, i just submitted my saved bios. We'll see what they say...hopefully they can get nibitor to read it and read the voltages correctly..that'd be mint :)
Try the memory VMOD I have at this thread. It's simple considering the legs of the IC you'll be working with are spaced wide. If you don't want to solder anything, you can always run mini-clips instead.
Interesting... I bet that v-mod will work. I'm 99% sure at my clock speeds I'm limited by memory bandwidth. Also, I noticed that I can physically clock to 600 MHz (ie. no artifacts) and run benchmarks but the scores aren't impressive probably due to throttling. I think that if I could get a better cooler I could clock to 600 MHz, all that would be left to make this a kickass card would be memory cooling and a v-mod for the memory! :D
Edit: What's the best air cooling available that would fit our cards? I'm wondering if I could even get past 600 MHz, but that seems to be the limit that our software will allow us to go.
