First set up DDR Booster and the LED jumps around a lot. I set it to like 3.0v and start to OC, I smelled the "electrical plume" smell, and checked it out, didn't see smoke, but the booster was quite warm. I shut it down and fired it back up. Ever since, it's worked fine up to 3.4v............

1. Did mac addy get zapped w/bios flash? (did that to myself once, took 2 days to get it was teh problm and then find the label on the board....)

The board must be borked, 'cuz now it won't OC worth a S*** and acts all buggy.... even tried different o/s, etc....
Need different mobo, I guess.
Using Win2K, I was able to get "Ricky Tweak" working, but WOW! temps shot through the roof and my OC suffered!!
Buggy issue with board seems to be related to my xt-PE, with a 9600xt it works much better :(

do you know why the xp pe holds you back?
could it that the 9600xt can handle the higher pci/agp better then the xt pe?
could the dothan itself not like running as multiprocessor? I havent heard the ricky tweak be used on any intel cpu for the matter and also it seems that few athlon xp use the ricky tweak, just a64s.

On my DFI LPB I had the same issue with the onboard lan not working. Drivers go in fine, shows up in device manager error free and can send data but not recieved according to network connections. Being a DFI hopefully it will be made the same. Check on the side of your AGP port for a sticker with a series of letters/numbers. This is the MAC addy of the onboard Lan. In the bios check for an option of INPUT MAC ADDRESS. If it's there input the info from the sticker and you should be fine. Not sure about the board you have but that is how it was fixed on my DFI board. Seems to be a real problems with them an onboard LAN.
Have you checked to see if your NIC has a valid Mac addy already? If there is no option in the bios to input mac address but a sticker is still present try and input the mac addy in the realtek gigabit lan drivers properties box. My driver shows this option so so should yours. Besides this the only thing I can think of is the possiblity that your onboard NIC is DOA or is crapping out due to too high of an overclock. On the NF2 boards if your fsb was set too high with APIC and ACPI enabled in windows lan, sound, usb etc would reguarly drop.

BUT! With the x800xt pe, I run into LOTS of OC'ed DRIVER FAILURE messages and crashes... I figure the agp is way out of spec even though the BIOS says 66/33 FIXED.....

No, that's not it. there's very little dif between 8x and 4x. It runs fine at lower clocks, and others have it running ok, I think it's just "user error" and need to know what I'm doing wrong.Quote:

With th eonboard video, I get onscreen corruption at about 154ish....

Wow and here I was was all set to build another AMD rig for my new system. Looks like I better draw up an intel spreadsheet now too. Quick question, are there any motherboard limitations with the Dothan procs, or will any S478 do? Sorry for the minor thread hi-jack.

just thought i'd mention that my dfi 754 board, lan worked fine, then after a few months the lan went same way as yours, sent out info wouldn't recieve, its been rma'd and no one at store could get the lan working right at all, duff lan IMHO. I tried everything i could think of to get it going and no luck. So probo not an issue with the lan/bios anything, just a bad chip on that board.

Something to point out to people is fairly simple and should be obvious. Despite intel being able to sink large chunks of money into research, it doesn't mean they can just defy all the physics that let a low wattage chip run with every extra possible. Its not a case of just slipping in an extra mem controller , well actually it is as its off die, but reconfiguring the cpu die to accept higher fsb, more bandwidth and so on isn't something that can happen instantly.
There are documented issues that stopped the release of speeds of dothans initially as they couldn't get certain fsb's working, i can't remember exactly but i think the dothan was supposed to be a 200Mhz fsb part, but it simply wouldn't work at that, in single channel, so was released at a lower fsb. SO there are issues there.
To have a low wattage cpu you need a very very straightforward, simple core, adding in more pathways and so on creates serious issues and take a long time to work out. Also the amount of engineers working on dothan compared to P4 projects are minimal. P4's design takes a lot od debugging time to get the core working right.

Dothan needs something like a Granite Bay. It allowed you to take a 100/133 cpu and run it to 200 with dual channel memory.....
Hmmm.... CLose to FX performance. But it absolutely KILLS Newcastle and runs neck and neck with most Clawhammer. If we were talking Dothan vs. FX53, I'd give the nod to Dothan, perhaps. But nearly all 55's are running 2.8-2.9 on air!Quote:
