The Neo overclocks just fine....as long as you know all the "tricks" I guess. I had to figure out that you need to run the AGP at 68 to actually lock it, and that the SATA 1 and 2 don't lock. Once I figured that out, things we're better.Quote:

VCore to 1.85, Vdimm to 2.8. Neo is fast and smooth but is also a finicky overclocker.

Okay, I am on to the Abit 1.1. The Neo was a damn good mobo at stock speeds but OC was too picky for me. Even with the RAID 0 on SATA 3 and 4 I had wierd problems with the system not finding the RAID drives.
The Abit....well...its even MORE finicky. Some multipliers work better than others stability wise...not sure why. The memory divisors adjust along with the multiplier you use, so that's kind of wierd too. But, I've nailed a few good combos (settings wise) and I'll end up keeping the Abit rev 1.02 and selling the Neo to a buddy.
I am convinced of one thing....all 939 combos are hit n miss when it comes to OCing. The stable headroom just isn't there.

mdzcpa, Ive been able to run 3dmark03 benches on my 3500+ Neo2 combo at 230HTT 1:1 at 2.5,2,2,10 timings. Looser timings of 3,5,5,10 gets me to 250HTT 1:1. The highest HTT 1:1 i have goten is 4x290HTT. I may have missed it but what ram are you using?
I'm running 2x512 OCZ3500EB, vcore 1.70 undervolting to 1.68v and vdimm at 2.85.
Have you found that your Neo2 undervolts the vcore?

hey don't get me wrong. Some have great luck. I just couldn't get anything out of mine. My vcore fluctuated about 0.05v at idle and about 0.07v at load. This made for a very very crappy oc. I can get another 150mhz stable on my Asus A8V. Futhermore, while I could bench at 1:1 at 235-245 prime was nowhere near stable :(. Maybe I just got a bad board, I dunno. My opinion is that mobo makers are getting payed off by Intel to make crap boards for the 939 systems so as not to get too far of a lead in performance. Either that or they are just plain lazy and don't care to make good enthusiasts boards.Quote:

Yes, very much so. My first Asus was crap. My Gigabyte, was worthless stock, and modded was Crap. My Abit while stable can't oc at 1:1 for crap and nothing over 245HTT stable 3d. My 2nd Asus is ok up to about 250-265HTT, after that it's flakey.
I need a good board to bench some rams for a review I wanna put together. Maybe I get another A8V but ver 2.0 and see if they fixed anything :O
I'm relentless and very hard with these boards. Either they work right and overclock, or they are outta there. The thing is that my 1.02 A8V is working great right now in the mid 250's sync at close to 2700 on water, so when I do get a good board it's fine. I was just looking for a A8V that could get bios updates and still have the locks. The next board I try will be the DFI 939 mostly for the voltages. I do think that it i pretty apparent form all reports that all the 939 boards are so far very inconsitant from one to the next, and fairly pciky about what memory is run.Quote:

Then don't say a board us crap just because you can't get it to work. Frankly, I can run circles around the Asus with the gigabyte and its more stable. A more honest and accurate response is that you couldn't get it to run right. I've run both bh-5 and eb with very good success with this board. I've also ran the Asus with good success. I was able to run the Abit with moderate succcess until I lost it to condensation. All of these boards will run resonably well if you take the time to figure them out. The giga is just faster and more stableQuote:

were you able to get good clocks and voltage on the BH5 without mods???
from my understanding 2.7v is the Vdimm on the Gigabyte which doesn't sound like a good combo with BH5.
could you clarify or explain???
Got my ASUS A8V 2.0 and 3500+ 939 this morning.
So far I put in the GT CPU kit, plugged in the HDs/CDs, case switches. All thats left is to put the GT head on screw it down and pray to god it works.
I'm skipping using the Stock HSF to start it up since I've been bending pins left and right removing the pos stock HSF. That pos has like a vacuum seal on it when you try to remove it, everytime I take it off I end up ripping it off with the CPU stock on the HSF -_-
My A8V is 2.0 checked on the board, is there a list of what they fixed for ver 2.0?
my PSU volts are:
3.3 = 3.6
5 = 5.5
12 = 12.6

A8V Dlx 2.0
2x 512 XMS 3502 1.1 <-- I'm guessing I'm gonna have to use 5:4 or whatever the hell divider the AMD has setup since I got BH5 and it probably won't OC well at all.

The sound on the A8V looks nice so I'm not gonna bother putting in my SB Audigy 2 ZS, since it installs 7 billion AOL adds and its a PITA to remove all of it.

I might try a A8V 2.0 as well. Gonna wait and see how the MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM clocks. I just ordered from Mwave so hopefully my 2nd foray into the NF3 939 boards goes better than my Gigabyte. I gotta find a board that clocks high 1:1 for a mem review I'm trying to put together. Doesn't do too damm good to review decent mem's when your board poops out before memory :O
Finished installing the board everything is running great so far.
I'm running the windows format thinger for NFTS
The bios is reporting temps all right, -30.5C when GT LCD reports -58C
The voltages are displaying properly as well, set the mem divider to 2:1 for now, no CPU O/C.
Gonna wait till windows is installed and I can do all the tweaks before I start the OC.
I'm guessing the max VDimm I can get off this thing is 2.9V with 3.6 on the 3.3
So that'll limit my mem clocks to probably 220ish 1:1, which of course I'll then have to use a 2:3 to see what I can get out of this.
I'm hoping I installed everything right, not that, that should be a problem since I've never really had a problem with condensation except for when I put the GT hooked up to the CPU while it was still condensing.
I left the AGP/PCI divider on auto don't know if I should bother to put it on 33/66, unless thats the option that'll lock it.
Any tips or pointers are appreciated with this board, I love ASUS boards but my first one was a POS since it was one of the early K8T800 K8V Deluxe's and doing a VMod on that thing lead to imminent death of the CPU and mobo lol.

Sure bud, the giga I have is both vcore and vdimm modded. The vdimm mod is the 3.3v rail to cap mod. The 276 2k1 run was at 3.74v vdimm. Unmodded, I think my best 2k1 run was just about 2.9G using 2t and about 50 mhz below that running 1t. Memory ran around 215-220, but I don't remember for sure. If you're going to use more than air cooling, then the board needs to be modded. At least vcore. For vdimm you could use the OCZ booster. However, if you just wanted to use the booster, I've ran 2k1 at 9 x 276 for a stock score of 31k. That would be 31k at less than 2.5G with a stock XTPE. Your results may vary. Also, if you're running higher vdimm with this board you'll need to boot at 230-240 HT for bh-5. For eb, I booted at 250 HT.Quote:

Off the shelf, I think the Asus is the better board. It has better voltage options and for me, it gave a better cpu clock per vcore. It also has better bios options. Running the same settings the Via chipset seems to be a little quicker at 3d. This is the opinion I've always given. However, even modded, the Asus will only give 3.1v vdimm, which limits memory overclock. This is why the Giga is quicker. If revision 2.0 give better vdimm, I'll be all over it.
I like the Asus, always have and will eventually pick up another cpu for the one I have and run it as a second rig.
I realize this is the internet and thus we tend to be less restrained, but shouting in all caps that a board is crap is IMHO a little overdone. None of us are "experts" and we're just reporting one board and one persons experience. Personally, I think we'd do a little better to report it that way.
