Good point. In a few months a 939pin sempron should be coming out (according to EPOX who say they are readying mobo support). This would then mean that people could start with one of them o the cheap and have a fully running system until they can afford an fx or whatever they decide on (90nm 4000 maybe?).Quote:

i wouldn't go with sempron tbh, its just a bodge job. I mean its fine but lack of 64 bit support is big. The people that say its not important and 64 bit won't make a diff. Well if thats true, why do M$ keep mysteriously delaying it while INtel don't have a x86-64 chip out , oooo, thats odd :p

I think the 3100+ will be £85 i think and a 2800+ faster, is £95. I would recommend, even if it takes a age to get M$ to release it, get a cpu that supports it.
Well they seem to be doing well, also Charlies board did 320+ fsb if I remember correctly (low multi). But so far I have not seen really high fsb like the 754 chipset (350+). hopefully that will be solved with this DFI coming out :) .

Purhaps you can answer the question I asked Drunk so many times...what BIOS do you use? I'm testing this thing and it's pretty damn unstable with the locks enabled. The FX-53 is a beast though!

storm pc, i write reviews also, i also work for a pc store and am in the same situation, i've used most if not all of the s754 chips and boards, i've now used a 3500+, tested a couple fx53's and 3800+'s at work, and tried most of the boards. I don't know what bios it is as tbh it doesn't make a lick of difference. the bios is working lock, or its not, its bios X or Y, what does it matter to you.
I have read reviews, and they agree 100% with what i've seen by testing al the stuff and, well, even if i do have to go to a review site to find out whats what. HOw come every sites results agree with me and not you? Errm, dang, just can't find the logic behind your argument.
You also asked me for bios TWICE< and i said shipping bios. IS that too hard?

ditto, i agree to a point, if there was a 2600 sempron or something for that £55 price point for the socket a versions, but for less than £10 its just not worth it.

I'm personnally not getting a Sempron I want a 3400 pretty badly :( . I'm not too botherd if it is or isn't a clawhammer, of course I want it to be one :) but it should be fast enough whatever and although i will not be near the fastest in anything I will just have to try and do well with what I have at the time :confused:

tbh, just cos only a x800pro, got it early, and cos i've got a xt and a gt on order(gt came in stock today, the xt supposedly tomorrow) and waiting for stock for gigabyte, and ddr booster(VERY shakey hands, not enough to stop me installing cpu's but soldering just goes all over the place).
I've had this 3500+ for over a month though(maybe more since they were i nstock in uk) and its just been a rock at my psu's limit. GOt my ocz 520, got some eb, the gigabyte, the booster on their way and will get some stuff sorted soon bench wise.
I will mess with bios's soon maybe, briefly to see if board is better with this setup, before i switch to the gigabyte.
StormPC: I'm using the 1005.021 beta bios Thats the only bios I have run on this board.

cow, have you tried 256 sticks of eb, are teh 512's worse on average, only very slightly, or almost the same? I just ordered a couple 256's, mainly for cash reasons, not sure if its worth selling my bh-5 up now or not.
EDIT :- also, have you found any copy of clockgen works with the a8v? when i got it none i tried seemed to work, anything else work for ya? Mines a bit of a git about rebooting at high fsb. Inbetween like 245-265 if i reboot it won't post, have to clear cmos, boot right into windows it seems at lower fsb, then reboot and a higher fsb will normo work.

drunkenmaster: I've only been able to test the 512 sticks. I don't think I will be testing any 256 sticks other than the BH-5 that I ran at 240 1/1
Clock-gen that I'm using is the 1.05v At the time I wasn't able to download it from www.cupid.com so mdzcpa emaild it to me.
My A8v has some booting quirks, mainly after a crash but I am able just to turn the power off/on and then it will boot.

I think I found the problem. X800 XT really hates the A8V board. I took a couple to Charlie's place and he had problems with it as well. And, come to think of it NOBODY has published a decent score with an X800 XT and Cat 4.5's with DX8.1 and an A8V. Have you tried an X800 XT in your's?
I'm going to test with Windows XP Pro and Cat 4.7's to see if it's more stable.

drunkenmaster you sure talk a lot, but you haven't showed us jack. StormPC has some benches in his sig, where are yours proving his 3700+ is inferior ?
errm, i don't have the setup right now to do that much, i don't have any phase change, just a lowly little rbx. I could do a run, but why would it beat a x800xt and a 3Ghz cpu? Errm, it wouldn't.
When i get some stuff in i will.
Again lilgator, look on any website that has published marks, everything else being equal they all say in all but a few benchmarks its faster clock for clock.
Having no benchmarks myself or even if i had some saying 35k, it wouldn't actually change the fact that a freaking 939 512 is faster than a 754 1mb by a very small margin. That is just fact, doesn't matter what benchmarks i run.
if you or stormpc can find one review, or compare, to prove otherwise, go ahead, be my guest.
PS, all being good and well i'll have decent mem voltage, better board(the a8v is still limited to 3.1v max i think with the booster, a x800xt, a 6800gt, and will reset up my stuff with ocz psu.
I got around 29.5k 3dmark with a x800 pro , clocked but not modded, and 2x512mb sticks of bh-5, with divider running just under 200Mhz with fsb at 250Mhz. Tbh i'm not 100% sure what i'd get with a x800xt with same clocks all else being the same. But i also have a lot of tweaking to do.
