Why are you still saying a newcastle is not worth money. Cause the Clawhammer 1MB hits 500K more 3dmark??? :confused:
I dont think many people have enough moeny to spend $600-700 dollar for a 3700+.
In the near future everyone has to do with 512KB, or buy a lot expensive FX.
1024KB is nice, but if NC OC good and good for the price... why not.
My 3400+ Newcastle 512KB hits 2.6GHz @1.52v ... great with games.
I dont think everyone want to stay within nr 10 of the orb. (hit 30-33K)
i dont need to PM anyone to ask permission to do a god damn thing. I may not make the front page, but someone will with a s939 newcastle and phasechange, take 6% off the fastest clawhammer on the orb since thats the diffrence. If i do make it afaik i'll be the only one there with just water on any chip.

Look man, I'm talking about the over inflated S939 Newcastles, not the S754 (although S754 Newcastles are not that great, they are at least cheaper).
If people don't have $600-$700 for a 3700+ the sure as h3ll don't have $700-$800 for the slower 3800+ S939.
So you like your CPU. Good for you! One may wonder (if hitting high scores is not your thing) why you run "HyperX BH-5@280MHz 2-2-2-5 3.4v" or a "Prometeia Mach 1". Seems to be overkill if you're not interested in being fast. Just an observation.:D

He's not going to be benching an FX-53 until he finds a good board. The ones he's tested so far totally suck, and he had a 3500+ and a 3800+ which he is selling.

I know the 3700+ is the killer, even beat the 3800+ S939.
But then you not have the right to say that the 939 3500+ is not worth the money. If somenone think its fast enough then so be it.
I also want a 3700+ , think everyone want it. But the lack of money i bought a 3400+ NC S754. I'm happy and hopefully hit the 3GHz under PC.
I think you mis understood the full meaning of tweaking. I think everyone has its own class.

Naturaly opp isnt going to be keeping the ones he had, he's a top 3 on the orb guy and these chips are not quite that fast. Im surprized opp even got one.
OPP gets everything. He found out that they were not worth his time. The S939 is not evil, but some who would have you buy them are. What do you expect? Should I lie and say the S939 Newcastles are worth it when they are not? They are certainly not slow like P4 slow, but they do not represent a particularly good buy when the S754 equivilant is faster and cheaper, not to mention a lot more stable. These things you have already admitted so I don't know what all your ranting is about. We agree!;)
They may not be worth his time, but in the same light a clawhammer aparently isnt worth his time either. I'll still say there worth looking into. My boards perfectly stable and the chip performs beautifully. Overclocks at least as good as the best clawhammers on air(matched your $700 dollar chips speed), able to overclock with a gig of memory that not all clawhammers(incude'n yours judge'n form only runn'n 512megs) are able to do all without the massive hit that skt754 newcastles suffer from. But you in your infinite knowledge of the subject fail to recondize these because they are 6% slower in 3dmark01se. Claim there not worthwhile because there not up to opps standards(he's not benching a clawhammer last time i checked either) and there isnt one on the first page of the orb. You havnt used one so i dont understand what your in this thread at all for.

hummm XP-2800 OCed 10% did 7700 on aquamark CPU
A64-3500 NC OCed 10% on the same ram did 10,300 thats a decent improvement i'd say.
humm my 3500+ only ran me 469.00 shipped + 135.00 a8v is right near 500.00 for both mobo and CPU
I guess a few extra points benchmarking could be worth 400-500 more if you are going for a WR or top 20 in benches but I wanted to have a fast processor for better gaming all on a limited budget,, oh well my bad.
oh and how long will those 754 sockets be around vs the 939??
No need to lie. You can't run at 2748 MHz on air. Who are you trying to kid? And if my chip was $700.00 ($679.00 actually) then yours was at least $500. Slap some PC on there and show us something, but please save the BS for the kids.
you got 2.7ghz on air? highest score ive seen of yours on air was 2660 and i doubt was on the boxed cooler where i got 2.64 on the boxed hsf. If you were able to get that speed on air and benched in 3dmark i'll retract that statement. And if i could justify PC i would have allready shown you something.
I can bench at over 2700MHz but it's not very stable. My CPU and memory both undervolt terribly. Still, I could take screenies at almost 2800MHz (3100MHz on PC).
Is your 248x10.5 1:1 on memory?

It is well known that DC chips do better in Lobby, no shocking news here. Now would you please read the title of this thread and tell me what your post has to do with a 3500+? As long as you have decided to take this thread completely OT, from your post it is apparent to me that the S754 holds it's own against the S939 stuff, even the FX-53 which SHOULD be a much faster chip. If pkrew was running a 3800+ at that speed he wouldn't even be on the front page. Cache???? Read previous posts??? Newcastle is to FX-53 what Duron is to AXP.
Also, OC Detective...right now the S940 FX-53 IS a better CPU because it has real motherboards. The S939 still needs a motherboard to be useful. Chips without motherboards are not good for much.;)

I think OPP speaks very clearly. His last bench (world record...) was after he had played around with several S939 chips and motherboards. It doesn't get much clearer than that!;)

I wont argue about the 512KB S939 chips (as I agree with you), but my post clearly shows that the 1MB S939 chips are FAST. That was my point, nothing else.
As for 11x266 vs 12x244, that was my mistake. pkrew was running 12x244 in his earlier tests and I assumed it was just the same now (CPU speed was the same).
Did I ever say that the FX-53 (the one and only 1MB cache S939) was not fast? I agree that it's fast, but who were you arguing with? Nobody here has said that the FX-53 is not fast, although I did say it needs a better motherboard.

248x10.5 is my current high score. i ran 264x10 333 mhz divider with my bh-5 and 9800xt benchable. But you cant run at .5 multi's 1:1 due to the bug or so im told and i have no real way to confirm if that bugs still present on s939 chips/boards. So the memory is only runn'n at 236mhz in that compare. first/last real bench with my current equipment and im waiting for my watercooling to push any further. With around 2.65ghz as the upper limit of my chip with this cooling 30k's unreachable with my current card clocks(540/570) so im just wait'n for my watercooling to get here since ive allready got 29k factory cooled.
My memory was only running 212 MHz with my highest run at 2925 MHz CPU. With a couple of vmods I hope to be bench stable at over 3GHz with my memory running at about 250 MHz 1:1 or more.
Then I'll have PC ICE build me another PC for the X800 XT.:D

I only expect 250x11 1:1 3-2-2-10-11-16 out of the cpu and memory but it very well could go as high as 2.8ghz judge'n from my amd cooler speeds at under 1.6v. The vga card should do no less than 600/600 but its hard to say where the memory will go with just ramsinks. the the gpu and cpu blocks will both be gett'n there own loops so i dont have to worry about compounding heat between the blocks. I'll be gett'n a ocz ddr booster since im way to out of practice soldering to do any hardmods and 3.1~3.2vdimm should take my 3700EB close to 270mhz 3-2-2-10 unless the DFI nf3 ultra board comes out and actualy works properly with 3.1+vdimm i'll go that rout over the ddrbooster.

stormPC i agree with you that for top of the orb benchers s939 newcastles are a waste of time. the dual channel does NOT make up for the extra cache at high speeds (remember the L2 cache runs at full CPU speed)
i want to see a 3700+ on good cascade phase change because i think it could be within 200-400 points of the same system with a s939 FX-53
with the 3700s clocking similarly well to the FX-53s on air (2.6-2.7ghz) i think it would clock beautifully on cuper cooling similar to the FX (3.3-3.4ghz)
i think the 3700 and s939 FX-53 share the same high quality silicon that comes out for the high clocked A64 models
If you benched a s754 at 280 tight you might be close to the FX-939 runnin in the high 260's. At the same fsb you'd have to run at least 100mhz higher with the s754.
It is part of a better SYSTEM (last time I checked a cpu also needed things like motherboard, ram, cooling etc to fully function properly) based on the fact it tops the orb (you think those that top the orb have PC2100 and stock cooling?).Quote:

The only part of 2k1 that gets a big boost from DC is Lobby, but the S754 can hang with (and in some cases best) the FX-53 939 in CL and DL, and does quite well in Nature also.

I agree, although the DC stuff has a definite advantage in 3DMark because Lobby really likes DC. I believe if Macci would put a 3700+ on his system he'd be close to OPP if not ahead of him. If there were better motherboards for the FX-53 939 though he'd have no problem doing it with that platform as well I'm sure.
It's so funny. Just because I tell people that S939 is not a good deal (when is new tech ever a bargain???) I get labeled as a S939 hater. Pretty silly really. I'm getting an Abit AV8 and FX-53 to play with in a couple of days. If it works well I may use it to replace my FX-51/SK8V S940 gaming rig.

How many times have you seen a guys bench and said "WOW, and he did it with only XXXMHz on the FSB! That's amazing!" That's because FSB is only one of many factors that affect a 3D bench. What you say is true if you are talking about pi calcs, but is not completely accurate when talking about 3DMark.
3DMark benches are all about finding the combination that yeilds the highest score. Higher VC clocks, higher FSB, higher MHz are all important, but they will only yield a higher score if everything else stays constant, which it will not. Conditions vary greatly from rig to rig, even where hardware is the same. There are just too many variables to account for, and even the "same" hardware is not really the same. The important thing is exactly how every component is interacting in order to complete the work as quickly as possible. The overall throughput is far more important than any one frequency or other aspect of hardware. Eliminating bottlenecks is the key.
I will prove what I am saying is true by beating your score with lower clocks on a slower (in theory) single channel CPU. This coming Saturday to be exact!:D :toast:
