Athlon 64 @ 533 with OCZ EB 3500

You made some good points texuspete2k2. None of us OCZ types ever said to ditch your BH5. Look on ebay at some of the prices, then check around for a 1gb kit, which we are showing here. How many stores have you seen stocking BH5, and at what price? Just about all the good performing BH5 is in 2 x 256mb format. This EB RAM is a product intended to be an alternative to existing low latency modules.

It is common knowledge that a 2 x 512mb kit will not overclock well in the NF2 boards. Remember we are looking at a 1gb kit, and it's kicking some booty. Speaking of booty, I am about to kick some more.............LOL.............

255fsb at 3.2v, CPC on, 2.5-2-2-2-11, buffered Sandra, PC3200 EB kit pulled from currently shipping stock and shipped to my door and not re-binned or pre tested! The Devil made me do it.

Those are nice results. I guess I just feel the 3700EB is the product line's real McCoy so to speak. I like a little guarantee for big money, and the products whole EB thing seems to be about keeping bandwidth at high fsbs w/o sick volts. Didnt want to see the lower models hold it's price sky high. 3500EB I'm on the fence. At least after shelling out the dough and possibly getting a bad clocker you can still moderately OC today's systems. Of course if more 3200EB performs like that I'd be forced to eat crow, wait for prices to settle a bit, and buy some.:eek:

I am very interested in Gig's of ram that can swing CPC enabled.

edit: btw, I wasnt under the impression that 2.5-2-2-11 would be a normal thing for these sticks. If just the 3200EB had those specs I probably wouldnt have had much of a basis for my posts... then you have a high price for guaranteed elite sticks. I know some of it is the egg and other vendors. I know its hard to guarantee timings like that so I look to the higher models.

The 2.5-2-2-11tinings are not normal for the 3200 EB. The official specs are 2.5-3-2-8 @ 2.6 volts.

Basically if you want a gig of ram to run with good bandwidth that will overclock, this is it. I haven't seen anyone posting benches on NF2 boards with a gig of ram WITH CPC ON. 512mb kits, sure. I could be and have been wrong way too much (lol), but I think we got em all beat.

Yes the higher speed modules will give a better shot at uber speeds as you say.

I got 1Gb of mushkin lv2, second hand recently and a DFI infinity. I got 250fsb with 3.2v, but running in single channel since the mainboard needs replacing. I could not get cpc on to work but if u look around the dfi forum you see alot who got it working at high fsb with 1Gb ram. I also have not tested any higher thatn 250fsb so there could be more at this vdimm:

Just for comparison, hopefully the next board I get will be able to run cpc enabled and dual channel and we will see a true comparison. However that RAM looks good, but I am glad I am not looking for ram in the current climate. I also have 2 * 256Mb twinmos bh-5 which does 250fsb at least too.

I should have said at low latency type bandwidth similar to Winbond WITH CPC ON. That's a biggie as performance is dreadful without it!

CPC thing on my KHX3000 2*512.... sucks. 3dmark might show it a lot. I can still get like 3800MB/s (buffered dflt test). The app itself might be a timings whore. I mean wtf, I provide it with 2-2-2-11-9-12 :(

Turning CPC off slows the AGP and affects all performance. It's like the old 1t command on VIA baord, except that on NF2 boards it's normally enabled. DFI just allowed us to turn it off, to run 2 x 512mb stick real slow. (LOL) Memory bandwidth in Sandra is not affected. All else is tho.

I reviewed the NF2 B on cluboc.net and wrote a boatload about performance and did a tuning guide. Look in the archives under DFI. I know this board pretty well ;)

Almost have enough saved for some 3200/3500EB now ;)

Looks to be a definate upgrade over my 3x256 of BH-6 that tops right about 240 with 3.2v and CPC enabled..

The memory? OCZ 3500 EL;)

The 2k1 score in my sig reflects the extra performance CPC on gives you. I would never even contemplate running without it.:cool:

LilGator, look at all the benchmarks I ran earlier in this thread for a 1gb Kit of EB on an NF2. Some one else posted some too, I believe. ;)

Catctus, I too have some year old OCZ 3500 EL 2 x 256mb that I run at 240fsb 2-2-2-2-11 at 3.2 volts :). The performance is a toss up between the EB and the BH5 EL, except running at CAS 2.5 on the PC3200 EB makes the board more stable, as it gets thru memtest86+ without errors. Not to mention I now have a gig of RAM at my disposal. :)

Nice but if thats 2*256... well, I've never had trouble running CPC on 256 sticks. Double sided or not. So, what size is it?

Mushkin pc3500 lv2 is bh-5 and is lower lattency than the ocz pc3500 eb.

Not being able to use cpc enabled is either a board or bios issue since people in the thread I posted, many have cpc enabled with 1Gb of mushkin lv2.

I tested cpc off and enabled and with 256Mb bh-5 (single channel) I went from 18710 to 19353. With my setup for whatever reason cpc enabled with 1Gb just is not worth enabling, since the fsb is held back so much. Will be getting another infinity (rma) and possibly a LPb since I now want the frontx panel.

I don't agree with that statement. I did a 3dmark with 2.75Ghz with 2v but it was not prime95 stable so could do with a little more vcore, like alot of people have modded.:toast:

For every argument you have concerning my review I can shoot you 3 back, that would solve nothing. I used what I had available at the time to test with. I happend to have the 3500 EL BH5 and 4200 EL (hynix). The only RAM that would run in the board with the bios I had available at 260fsb + with available voltage was the 4200 EL. It did a good job I thought, considering it was a 1gb kit and it maxed out the board.

The whole point of talking about CPC in concerns of a 1gb kit is that IF you can leave it on, which I did in my benches and testing, then you CAN have the better performance allowed by having it on.

I hit 255fsb with CPC on with OCZ PC3200 EB. I think that's a good thing. That's only my opinion of course. Look at the benches I posted.

OCZ is offering an alternative to Winbond based RAM with the EB series. The supplies on the good BH5 are gone. BH6 is available from some vendors, but that needs allot of voltage, won't clock as well and the chips are costly, making the modules very expensive. Shop for some.

If you like your RAM (I like my BH5 just fine) that is cool with me. I have no problems with that. Enjoy it.

What chips are those modules sporting and is 3.2v within warrenty guidelines? Thx. I was a little erked about a misleading statement earlier, but that ram does look good concidering I paid £200 for my second hand mushkin and I saw that ram for £225 here:

Hey, I tried moving my sticks about. slot 2 & 3 had always been the best for me but I went with the only other DC option, 1 & 3 and am running CPC enabled on my GB of KHX3000 BH5. I ended up dropping timings to 2-3-3-11... had too. Going to have to try to up the volts and get my 2's back. This is 230 @ 3v. Might be worth a shot. CPC is 6~700 points for me.

Megatron, all is good with the world. No 3.2 volts IS not recommended for our warranty!! Lets put it this way, IMHO is you keep a fan on them and only run that for an occasional benchmark or short period it's ok. I still hit 240fsb with the PC3200 EB at 3.0volts. We feel this is the maximum that is ok to run in most situations. Bottom line is that this stuff is bought bought by Xtreme dudes that run it at whatever they can get away with!!

I was playing with slots 2/3 and 1/3 last night. 1/3 seemed just a bit better in the DFI NFII B.

Would I see any increase in performance by going with the EB series over the 3500EL?
I am limited by the CPU in this shot as I`ve had the memory faster before with a diffrent CPU.
