Please be careful during your destructive testing chilly1! You are effectivly dealing with a mechanical bomb there and it should be treated as such. I would not recommend even being in the same room as the heavy enclosure that I am guessing you will have it in during your test.
Wouldnt Titanium be good, as far as i know its good as a heat conductor and as you will know its stong as hell.
Expensive yes but from what i have seen you dont care about the $$$, only problem would be having the tools to get what you want out of a solid block.
Machineing it is a pain and we are not set up for it. This has been discussed and I ahave talked to a shop that can do it for me.

I will have test facillities capable of handeling the debris field before I even do any testing... Blew up a compressor in a steel container once though..
Have you heard about pressure testing in water baths. Submerge the piece of equipment you want to test and pressure test it, I believe this is used for burst pressure tests. The water should slow down the exploding fragments dramatically, just something I remember hearing about.
Yeah the water will slow it down, but as its being built in a house what could you use that will hold enough water and not blow out if fragments hit the sides etc.Quote:

Actually, if he does do as you suggest and put it into some sort of water bath and as you said it being a sturdy metal one.
The best thing he can do is place some thinner sheets on freefloating hinges so if anything does go then it will hit those then the back pressure will slow down even more as the suspended plates are pushed back.
Actually I recommend a hydrostatic test which is the safest way of leak testing pressure vessels. Thanks to Russell_hq for mentioning water and jogging my memory about this. His immersion approach is also mentioned in that link.
"The vessel is filled with a nearly incompressible liquid - usually water or oil - and examined for leaks or permanent changes in shape. The test pressure is always considerably more than the operating pressure to give a margin for safety, typically 150% of the operating pressure. Water is commonly used because it is almost incompressible, so will only expand by a very small amount should the vessel split. "

This form of method is in practice for testing Gas Cyclinders
like your Phase Change Gasses come in and your Large welding
bottles.
Though done in a deep chamber, best description is like a lift
shaft water filled at the base but very much scaled up since were
talking big cyclinders and alot of high pressure gas. :)

Parts are in house building a cascade and a chiller and a prommie sized direct die gpu and a northbrige/ memory coller first... Probably start next weekend... Still got a few buge to work out,,, Like it draws too much power.... 23a at 115 V
