I'm getting identical results with a 1700+ and the mobile 2400+ - 2.45 GHz but not 2.5 stable. Heat is the problem, you need a prometia ;)

finally had the time to work some more on my wc setup. should be up and running in a week. i will add tecs in a couple of weeks wich should finally let me run higher speeds.
how can i disable this stupid overvolt protection on my a7n8x? can only get 2.15vcore :\
as soon as im on water i could push vcore to 2.5v and see where that gets me... if only this stupid board didnt have this overvolt protection id be running 2.5ghz with 2.2 or 2.25v already... :mad:
cpu should be here tomorrow... I'm gonna play with it a bit, have around -8C air to play with (New England weather :D)

holst just told me he probably has a fix for my board to get a higher vcore :D
I am not looking to replace my old cpu, but get another for a new comp for my sister :D
I don't know what i was thinking with confusing mp with mobile (been dealing with intel for too long i guess :D).
Why are the 2400+'s 100 mhz faster than the 2500+'s?

The most popular response to that question is, amd's usually don't die from high volts. As long as your temps are okay you should be fine with anything. Try to keep your load temp below 50c seems to be how most people gauge the voltage.Quote:

I think I am gonna have to pick up one of these mobile 2400's.
edit-> I just noticed that the mobile 2500 has a default voltage of 1.25v. 30 mhz higher with .2v less, wouldn't that suggest the possibility that the 2500's can oc better?
thats a typo on the newegg site.. its default 1.45v
im about to sell my unlocked 2500+ for $70, what chip should i get to go over 2.4ghz?(my 2500+ maxes out at 2350ish), i really wish i coulda snagged a mobile barton... oh well, i think i'll get a moibile 2500+ two guys relpied at newegg saying they got 2.7ghz on air.. so if im as lucky as as them i dont see 2.8 being impossible

I have a 2500 mobile in the mail and i'm wondering what makes some of these run cooler?
Near as i can figure they have either changed the process (SOI) or changed the core layout. I haven't seen enough info to come to a conclusion but i'm thinking they have changed the process on a line to get cooler higher clocking mobile chips. It would be nice to get a thread started to gather manufacture dates and stepping codes to figure out which clock the highest and show exceptionally low heat output. Anyone wanna start something like that?
Does AMD use SOI on the Bartons?
All I know is that my locked Barton (0243)@1.9vcore was running SETI@44C, and now with my XP-M at the same vcore it's down to 41 or 42C.
Note: my locked 2500 was running at 2342 and my XP-M is running at 2530.

it could be due to bad contact with the first one and better contact on teh mobile.
Contact was right on with both Spork, trust me(?) I have installed billions of CPU's.

The mobiles are probably just the best of the best. They just happen to run consistantly cooler, and higher at lower temps...maybe...maybe not....i have no idea :D
im sure if both the voltage and clocks were the same they would be same temp's... or isnt this the case?
I will definetly do a back to back test with same clocks and voltage to see if they really do run cooler. My DTR 2500 is kinda old though (week 7 in 03). I'm sure the newer steppings should run cooler reguardless.
The last XP1800 I heard of coming from Newegg last week was for a week 50 XP1800 DLT3C. Evidently this week comes unlocked and ready to rock. Of course they don't guarantee their steppings...
I run my XP1800 DLTC3 at 221x 12 for 2.64 G at 2.1v. Most of those DLT3C 1800's should really overclock to 2.6G or more with good cooling.
i ordered a Mobile 2500+, cant wait to see how far it can overclock :)
I've got a 2500+ mobile on the way also. this @2500+ week 39 I have now won't run over 2400Mhz watercooled at 2.1v and its a Y core .

the 2400+ bartons are sold out already. the 2400+ tbreds are still nice chips but i dont think its worth to get one if your current cpu runs 2.5ghz already. if its a thorton you can probably unlock the extra cache wich would would turn it into a mobile 2500+, but again, if your at 2.5ghz already its not worth it if you ask me.
