yes kingpin got 1900mhz with ln2, but with very little effort, so that could be far from the limit.
add in cherry picking, high quality specific power section, throw a waterblock on it and it doesn't sound so crazy
Theres a """slight""" difference of GPU mhz scaling between waterblock and -190C degrees unless this waterblock has some Liquid nitrogen in it. :rofl:
I find it extremely amuzing that someone really belives that they can do it on air or water.
has ANY gpu in the history of gpus come out at half the speed of third party chips.
2ghz on a SINGLE core at STOCK speeds is not going to happen.
miscommunication is much more likely here.

When I first saw this, I thought maybe they've found a way to get the hotclock working again. Even so thats a little too much to keep cool and feed.
Considering I have been able to test 580 GTX chips on a very cherry PCB (to name it: Matrix Platinum 580) and could test 5 different cards - I say it is a good idea to call that announcement bs every day...
I tested 580 GTX ref, CUII and Matrix - any of thoose cards could hit 1000+ with a good chip on it...in the end it is always the GPU-chip (face) that talks, everything else is just the body...and if you have an ugly face - the best body can't do anything about it...
Due to the powerlimits the cards have it seems plausible to hit 1200-1400 for a card you can give full warranty on - but 2000+ LOL, give them a break to think about it...
We have seen some crazy designs from Zotac for the chinese market but 2000+ WILL NOT HAPPEN on 680 GTX - I say it again!
Maybee they have access to GK110 disable a bunch of crap, and OC ....
But in reality, 2ghz is 1on1 against Lionel Messi.... IMPOSSIBLE ;D

No but there was at least 2 gpu's that could be clocked far past there stock speeds.
The tnt1 and tnt2.
Both stock around 115-125mhz, and both can be clocked to 240mhz on a crappy core, and 255mhz ona good core.
255mhz was the max back then, 0xFF in hex, it could not support any higher unless you hard modded and replaced the crystal and so on, something I have no clue how to do correctly (actually I have some clue's how to do so on newer card's, err gf2mx+ and so on, inside the driver it has some debugging stuff that allows you to set a different div for the crystal, it was meant for the mem, some card's had sdr while others had ddr1, bleh bleh whatever).
The original radeon gen of card's also clocked very well.
I had the 7800, I don't rmember the clocks but I do know it clocked way up there, maybe 80% oc.
I don't know if such a high clock is possible on the 680 or not.
But I would not outright disregarde it.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at. I did 1.3GHz on air on the reference board with the stock cooler. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to allude to because you really have no idea what you're talking about.
I think that 2GHz is very possible, but also VERY ambitious. To me 1.5GHz seems much more reasonable and possible, but jesus christ you guys calm down the negativity. I think someone's been drinking a bit too much haterade.
So, the part where I emailed my Zotac rep and asked if the story was legit wasn't good enough to admit it wasn't a mistake? :confused:
I honestly don't know why this thread is still going on either, because its basically a bunch of guessing and conjecture. Zotac hasn't given me or anyone else any details about this claim, so we'll have to sit tight and wait.
To simply denounce this is purely being negative and makes little sense until Zotac delivers some details. Right now it sounds like a pretty hyped marketing claim, but we shall see. Plus, they never claimed that it would be on air or water, the cooling was never actually described on the 2GHz card...
Trying to use the overclocking abilities of GTX 580 to draw conclusions as to the potential of GTX 680 is just about the worst comparison imaginable. GTX 680 is 40% smaller (294mm2) compared to GTX 580 (520mm2), both are on completely different manufacturing processes, and so far my GTX 680 reference board clocks 300mhz over stock with a tiny volt bump. My Fermi cards clocked nowhere near as well.
Regardless... as I said earlier, lets all see how things play out with this zotac card instead of instantly attacking it. I don't think they could hit 2ghz either... but it will be interesting.

My rig (4.4ghz i7 2600k, 16gb ddr3, 256gb ssd) got X3308 on a reference, loud+noisy fan Radeon 7970 @ 1240core/6620mem that was bench-stable only (would crash after a little gaming without fail) @ x16 PCI-E 2.0.
On a single reference GTX 680 (two installed, though, but SLI disabled... thus x8 PCI-E 2.0, physx off) I get X3550 with a quiet, fan-curved OC of 1215core/6700mem setup that is fully game-stable. Exact same rig. Works like a charm at auto fan and 1202mhz core peak turbo in SLI (even quieter than my fan-curved OC with the single card). In SLI I get X6672.
Clear win in my book... it's $50 cheaper, SLI works perfectly, much quieter, has physx should I want it for the handful of games I own that support it, etc. I love it :), fantastic cards.

ZOTAC claims world-records will be set, and broken, using this card, although it did not give out details of its out-of-the-box clock speeds.
I think they meant that they achieved 2GHz on one chip they binned using LN2 and then will sell those binned chips on this ridiculous card (with massive VRM, unlocked everything, disabled "boost", and mostly gold-based components) for an extreme premium. K|ngp|n did 1.9GHz, what's to say Zotac couldn't do more?
Be interesting what EVGA brings to the table with their 14 Phase Classifieds (if those leaf blower model 580s were anything to go off).
Good on Zotac though. Good push for publicity etc hope it turns out well for them.
I have always been a fan of their products, just seems like they never got enough spotlight time compared to your Asus, Gigabytes etc.
