Today I continued to try en get the radiator mounted in the case.
Because I thought that the M3 screw didn't go well in the radiator I decided to tap the radiator.

http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
And just before the last hole this happens:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
That is the second M3-tapbit that I screwed up. i don't use a lot of force but I think it's just because that thing is that fragile.
Anyway, I hung the radiator in place.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
As you can see I am missing the bottom rails. They were hardmounted to the case but had some movement in them. When I tried to drill the mountingholes they weren't lining up. So I scrapped the bottom rail to make new ones that are removable. But without that tap-bit, I can't continue.
But the radiator is mounted now only on the top rail. And it is a very solid mount, no movement at all. So I think I am gonna leave the mounting system as it is.

Plan for tomorrow: Buy M3 tap!!! (probably 2 to make sure)
Morgen dus eens kijken of ik een tweetal M3 tapjes kan kopen...

Nice u r back. I like the case so far i cant wait to see how it comes up.
-
it keeps me thinking. why you guys buying such case as lian li if you want to use only a 10% of it? building your own case is not better idea?
anyway looks like another very good pc is going to be built :D
-
Simple: I don't have the resources to create a superb exterior. The result would be only flat aluminium plates as exterior.
Now I can keep the exterior of the A77 and create own interior.

It's starting to look like a Case!!
The next step in the build is mounting the motherboardtray. And while I on it mount the drivebays.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
This is my home-made bracket to mount the tray.
Eh... "Form follows Function"
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
The tray is fully removable in 2 ways.
Unscrew some screws:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Lian-Li method: Tilt the tray to the side to get it out:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
result:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
The other method is to remover the motherboardtray and backpanel as a whole.
Next step in the build is probably finding a spot for the PSU.
See you later !!

http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/Logo...r%20Update.jpg
So what's today on the planning? Mounting the PSU!!
Problems? Yes, sir!!
To avoid scratches I took an old 300W no-name PSU from an old pc.
And what was the problem?
Apparently the Lian-Li drivebays are smaller than the ATX specification. It should be 150mm width but it is something like 148mm. The result is that the PSU wont fit. So again I cut a part of the drivebays so that the PSU is below the drivebays.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
After some filing the PSU fits:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Maybe you see it but the front is also smaller than the PSU.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
So some filing so that the PSU can be mounted from the front.
Then mark the holes to mount the power supply.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPGhttp://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Then rises the question: "Will the power-cord go through the front?"
The answer is "No". I mailed Lian-Li today and they will send me a power-cord used in the A05N. So thank you Claire from Lian-Li!!

Glad to see you're making progress, -TYPHOON-. Nice solution for radiator mounting.

http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/Logo...r%20Update.jpg
This week I received my package from Lian-Li.
What's in the package?
Well it's the cable to connect the PSU that is in front of the case to the backside to connect the powercord there instead directly on the PSU.
The cable has it's origins in the A05N which is much smaller than the A77. I thought this would cause problems to the length of the case but it didn't. I have length to spare...
The connector for the PSU is larger than I thought it would be. I might have to use some spacers to mount PSU farther in the case.
Don't mind the quality pictures because they are taken with a 2MP Nokia. My dad took the camera with him to Texas for a week.

http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/Logo...r%20Update.jpg
It's been a while since the last update right?
Because of the work I have to do for school there isn't enough time to work on the mod. But sometimes I've got the time and then my hands get itchy.
A few days ago(weeks now) there was an opportunity at the Highflow forum: A member was selling an almost unused EK DCP4.0. It was an instant buy for me since I need them for this build.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
If this pump doesn't provide enough flow/pressure for the loop I will buy a second one for 2 pump in serie.
Yesterday I tried out the cable I got from Lian-Li but I ran into a problem:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Maybe it's not visible above but certainly below. The connect is well beyond the frontpanel.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
The easy solution is to use standoffs to move the PSU further back into the case. I had some lying here from my HAF932. I couldn't use the ones from Lian-Li because they are a combination of M3 and UNC 6-32.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Normally 2 standoffs will do. I can always try to find longer standoffs to create more distance between the frontpanel and the connector.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Last week I had to opportunity to go to Alternate.be. I used this opportunity to empty their stock of Scythe Gently Typhoons 1850RPM. To bad they had only 3...
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
The fans are really wonderfull, just like everybody is saying: High quality en very quiet.
Some pictures of one fan:

http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Next up: some cutting to the case!!
In the previous configuration the PSU got scratched because of the drivebays sitting against the PSU. That's OK for this PSU but not OK for the decent PSU so I shortened the drivebays.
Before:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
After:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Yesterday it was 26 degrees Celcius outside so got to work outside on the interior of the case. I wouldn't want to see all the cables of the PSU next to the motherboard so I decide to create some kind of wall to separate the drivebays and PSU from the motherboard area.
This was my first time trying to bend 2mm aluminium.
To make a long story short: Smack it with a hammer for the best result!!
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
In the package I got from aluminiumopmaat.nl there was a plate for the back of the case. Drilled the holes and fit it:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
That's it for today!!
-
-
Nice job dude.. congratulations
-
Looking good brother. I thought about mounting my PSU in the front of my TJ07. Still haven't ruled it out to be honest. I really like your approach.
-
The problem wiith placing your PSU like this is that it will "invade" the motherboard-area easily.
Or you have to place it vertical?... :D

http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/Logo...r%20Update.jpg
I got screwed!!
Not really but I got my screws :D
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
A bag of M4 and M3 100 each.
From left to right: M4, New M3, old M3
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
The new M3 screw got a more painted look and are deep-black while the older ones are more iron look: carbon-steel.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Also worked on the midplate. It was a pain in the ass to remove it because I had to brake almost everything down to remove it. Solution: shorten the midplate:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Today I also cut the 2 plates and drilled holes in them., They will be used to cover up the rest of the drivebays. One is not visible on the pictures because it couldn't fit: forgot to cut a piece:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
And some try-outs to improve the camera-skills

UPDATE: Back to work
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/Logo...r%20Update.jpg
Well vacation has started and so does the work on the case.
Lately I had lots of tasks and test to do in university but that is done (for this year).
First thing to do today is trying to finish the drivebay covers:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
I don't got any pictures during the process because there won't be a lot to see...
Here is the almost finished product:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
There are still some gaps but that will be resolved (hopefully) with the mounting construction.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Back side:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
If the weather allows it I'm gonna try and make the mounting construction for the cover.
-
cool build kinda like mine but more modding. i dont have a steady enough hand or a deep enough pocketbook to do that much changes :p:
-
My pocket isn't deep but I spread it out over a long time so I won't notice any changes to the deepness of my pocket :D
-
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/Logo...r%20Update.jpg
Well the weather was like expected: 5 min sun and 5 min rain. Too much effort to put everything outside and then head back inside to shelter for the rain. So I thought of something else to do.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Like taking measurements for cutting when the weather allows it.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
A few weeks ago I bought a box with boxes!!! Makes it easier for me to keep my screw all together without to much clutter laying around.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
What is this?
Well for starters I wanted to mount the 2 EK 480 Radiators that EK provided me. But I ran into a snag when mounting the radiator on one side. Some screws were sticking to far out and were blocking the radiator placement.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Easy fix: change to shorter screws:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
The 2 radiators are mounted:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
I mounted a pair of Lian-Li 120mm fans to check for space. I couldn't find any screws with the correct length. (note to myself: buy new screws)
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
The reason why I do this is to check for space for the pump.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
As you can see the EK DCP4.0 fits right in between. The second DCP should be placed in front or behind the other one. The MCP350 that I already have wouldn't fit there. Therefore the choice for 2 DDCP4.0.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Picture from above. Apparently the previous owner of the pump forgot 2 screws for the pump.
Then I mounted the side panel to see if the used screw weren't too long. It seems it fit so I'll leave it like that.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Test fitted the mesh to see how it would look in the end with the sidepanel white and mesh black.
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPGhttp://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Messing around with Macro mode:
http://users.telenet.be/TYPHOON/The%...20(Custom).JPG
Anyone have experience with the Sony HX9v? I am looking for a new camera which is compact and has high zoom.

Looking good! Look forward to some more updates..
