Good, Cheap Cruncher?

I have started runing collatz on my ati hd5770 on may 13th with minimun cpu usage and i use Win 7 64 bit familial version with eset security as my anti-virus.I never keep any other apps running in the background and i rarely game so its pratically a dedicated cruncher. And with wcg and collatz running i have around 2.57gb of memory used. School is finished so i will let it run for week without touching anything and will post back my result to give you a better average. I am sure it could get better when i will completly set it as a dedicated cruncher with only light win 7 install, boinc and probably only everest for temp and setting. Oh and i also got a i3 530 from whitefiredragonthat should arrive at my home during this week so we also be able to give you my result on this one. I might also try some tweak testing on my i5 750 to see what you could possibly get me such high number. For the moment, i think it might be because of the high uncore speed or memory speed.Because every other thing is normal, might have to do also with os and a v which my dad choosed for the house because it didnt eated alot of cpu power.

I wonder if this combo can get to 4.+GHz cheaper:
Core i3-540 + Biostar TH55XE

This is mis-leading, they are talking about dual core i5's and not the i5-750.

Good article though. I also required right under 1.4V for 4.5GHz. Under a very modest water cooling setup (left over parts), the temps, fully loaded, stayed just under 50C.

I don't think there would be much gained from the i3-540, but I don't know for sure. The i3-530 overclocks very well.

Meanmoe is right, i3 530 is plenty enough with a 22x multi, Need only 210bclk for about 4.5ghz and about every motherboard can do that easily and if your motherboard let you lock the 23 turbo multi you would just need 196 bclk for 4.5ghz. The only problem would be heat and they could make around 20k ppd.

i3's don't have turbo. Unfortunately, I think your stuck with a 22 multi. There are worse things though.

I saw somewhere that you're ordering one. Let us know how it works out and if it does the same things on air.

yeah got one from whitefiredragon and will be putting it on a gigabyte p55m ud2.

be careful with that mobo; I had one with a mild oc and fried the mosfets I think they are called. make sure you have fans blowing on them

i will have a fan and some heatsink on them.

Second on that...

I almost bought that mobo but didn't because of the lack of mosfet cooling. I didn't get it, a $100+ matx board with NO mofset cooling... That started my MSI board buying spree.

Trouble with those PE 2950's and even HP's G5's is the FB-ECC RAM.
