First of all the Vantage scores for 480/5870 comparison tell absolutely nothing, according to Vantage scores 480 should have 5870 performance but we all know that it's actually 15% faster than 5870. So what, 100mhz overclocked 5870 beats a 480 by 450 points on Vantage. SNORE.

If a benchmark that is not representative of the general situation can be used to describe how a card is "destroyed" then I might as well use the Unigine bench with extreme tessellation to claim that the GTX 480 tramples even the 5970.

"Wide availability" and with every card being able to reach 1100? :ROTF: How is "wide availability" and "super cherry picked chips" not mutually exclusive? Even if that's possible, that represents a 29% overclock. GTX 470 can be overclocked 33%, and the 480 is between 20-25%. So no, even with that much overclock you probably are going to lose to an OC'd 480, which is the same price as this card but has enhanced DX11 capabilities and higher VRAM.

Finally I have no idea who told you there were no cards in Europe or Middle East. I live in Turkey and I have a lot of friends who bought GF100's this week. If there are cards here then I'd say there would be a lot of cards in Europe as well. I think the situation is better than the 5800 launch.

Wow are those charts out of wack. A 5% lead looking like a 50% lead.....oh what fun.

Seriously though, if all SoC cards could get to 1.1Ghz on stock volts, Gigabyte would have clocked them all at that speed or at least 1Ghz. Trust me, the bragging rights would have been huge had Gigabyte achieved that.

Yes they are binned cores which can reach great overclocks but it will take voltage increases to get most of these cards to 1.1Ghz and beyond. To me though anything under a 15% overclock is nothing to brag about...

You might want to read on the gtx470 and gtx480 results a bit more closelly and they can achieve and minimum of 125Mhz OC on core and they can have a 100Mhz on memory on air and the OC % ratio perfomance is way higher than the ATI cards. There are no real complete driver revision yet and it beats the 5890 when OC and does not have fake DirectX 11 capability.

I paid the card 200$ less than the 5970 so technically i have 200$ more to eat :D

P.S the toxic revision came out and the extra gig of memory and hasn't showed any real life advantage, but i would greatly accept 512 mb memory more on the GF100 :rolleyes:

GTX 480 plus 200MHz OC would easily beat a 1.1GHz 5870, and seeing as with water cooling the things are probably gonna go over 1GHz, and 5870's don't do much better than with air cooling, I think the 4xx series should be a big hit with the liquid cooling crowd.

I dont like the Blue PCB with that cooler. It should be black.

Also do gigabyte use unlocked bioises of is the max overclock limited to 960 Mhz on these? And I sure hope that they support voltage tweaking, as even the new versions of the Sapphire Vapor X cards have voltage tweaking removed.

And its far to expensive for a 1 Gb card, I's rather get a reference model 2 Gb 5870 and overclock it myself rather than one of these.

Gigabyte should have made this a 2GB card, like some people mentioned. Other than that this card looks nice, but quite expensive. Though I'm surprised that this card still uses 2x6 PCI-E power connectors because other overclocked 5870 uses a 8 PCI-E connector or both.

We would all love this to be a 2gb card but that much memory would likely demand such a premium that it would not be attractive vs. GTX 480 or even 5970 anymore.

I think this card does mighty well with 1GB of Memory as in all GAME tests it was very competitive.

2 Gb Eyefinity 6 5870 based on the reference design costs the same as these, and reference design HD 5000 cards easilly overclock to 1000+ Mhz, so theres really no need to charge such a premium price on a factory overclocked 1 Gb model with an improved cooler, especially when it has no ram cooling.

That graph is just absolutely ridiculous, as most of those types are. They try to make a 1-3 FPS difference look like it is 33-66% faster. Those kind of graphs should be banned imho.

It's called Proadlizer, and in short it's sort of a super capacitor.

As for making it a 2GB card... we have seen that there's nothing to gain from the additional capacity with a Radeon HD5870, so no reason to go for 2GB ( and raising the card's price more ).
And mostly, this card is aimed at the overclockers, so 1GB > 2GB ;)
I agree on the price though, it could & should be lower than that.

The memory chips on the front of the card have no cooling on them either though, they are bare underneath that big heatsink. They might get cooled by the airflow from the fans, but still even a flat L shaped heatspreader on top of them would help.

(You can see a bare ram chip at the bottom of the card).

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but as far as I know those memory chips can run just fine as is with a tiny bit of an airflow.
Having them like that and cooled by BGA chip coolers or an L shaped heatspreader wouldn't make a difference in overclocking them ( that's just a wild guess, I have yet to receive my retail sample and confirm my guess :p: ).

I shall have the card in a few hours, so I guess I'll have some proper info and input soon :)
