NVIDIA GTX 480 in SLI @Hexus

You're not crazy at all, quite logical in fact.
I think some people just love Nvidia so much, and have such an emotional connection to them for whatever reason, that they'll subconsciously justify Fermi any way they can.
Logic gets thrown out the window when you want something to be true.
i looked at a 4 or 5 of the reviews before they went down, the 470 clocks from 600 stock to 720-740 and the 480 clocks from 700stock to 750-800. there is no voltage control and heat seams to be the problem so it looks like it needs liquid like a dual gpu card (as it draws more power than a dual gpu card that makes sense, right.) it also scaled linearly with bc2 with the reviews.
my conclusion is that we have the same thing as last time as the last gen with ati ocing more and being cheaper/cooler and more texture/AA power, and NV having a giant core that dosnt oc as well and sucks more power but has more geometry power.
the 5850 with voltage control seams to still be the best card to get, and i really like the heatsink on the 480.
also to any1 from review sites it looks like some people arnt forcing the correct dx modes, and have ati cards and the 4xx set to dx10 and not 10.1 and or not having dx11 forced correctly for bc2/dirt2
I can't wait for the HD 5890 which will easily take back the fastest single GPU card crown.:D
Here's another German review: http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.php...-comeback.html
So what's everyone's impression?
i dont know but in the \Documents\BFBC2\settings.ini u can set the dx mode (its not in the game, so people could miss it) and i remember that there was a leak of dirt2 needing manual settings for dx11 on the 480 so the NV slides were showing dx9 for NV v DX11 for ati. and some1 i cant remember who was forcing dx10 instead of 10.1
or i assume thats why there were large differences in some of the benches site to site
i bet that helped crash the site though
Hindsight is 20/20 unfortunately. Maybe I would have done things a bit differently for the sake of the hamsters in our server. ;)
As for the config files. Yes, they are both in My Documents. DiRT 2 allows you to force the DX9 mode or defaults to DX11 (you can check this by seeing if Post Processing has a High setting in the game menu).
BF:BC2 allows you to do the same but by either indicating 9, 10 or 11 in the "DX" section of the config.
What reviews didn't do this???? I ask because I am shocked. :(
Our server is also getting hammered a lot. This is just craaazy people!!!

I think that For right out of the gate Very Early Drivers And very early Development Overall with the gf100 cards. It is Expected..... GTX 480 Is faster than the 5870 in pretty much everything. What i am REALLY Anticipating is the Upcoming Drivers. And i want to see how much it increases performance. I dont agree with people calling Fermi an Overall "Fail" I mean is it MIND BLOWING UNBELIEVABLE. no It isnt. But it is a Solid start with the New Architecture. Wether nVidia or ATI it doesnt matter Developing a new Architecture Isnt a walk in the park. I think nVidia will Improve on Fermi. And Just out of MY Preference i will Invest in Fermi.
GTX 480 PCI-Express Scaling @Techpowerup
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/N...Scaling/1.html
My impression is that this card can be worth buying if you're building a rig from scratch. For people with 5800s and GTX 295s though, it presents no value at all.
The reviews were more interesting than the card. It clearly showed which sites were leaning towards Nvidia and which sites the other way around. Unlike what a lot of people say about them, I found Tom's Hardware to be one of the most balanced reviews out there. Guru3D said they were absolutely stunned by the card in so many respects, but then they do that to EVERY card they review. Anandtech review was also good.
I found HWC's review biased towards Nvidia, unfortunately. Same with Bjorn3D.
Site conclusion: Anandtech has been the review site I've been making decisions on for 10 years for a reason.
I like the 2 diff review for each card HWC did, gives the 470 a shot at the limelight, if this card is $349 with good availability its a good card for 24/7 gamer compared to the ATI 5850 and 5870. i dont know what to say/think about 480, aside from wait for a shrink and 512...especially at that price and heat/power
