Shadows maxed out is HORRIBLY optimized and will cripple any system at higher resolutions. I turn them off like a few others said here. And Dal is horribly optimized also Blizz has admited this on the forums. Anyone who claims they are hitting 60+ fps in dal at peak times with maxed setttings is lying.
Yea I know, but I really wanna see if anyone here has the SR-2 board with dual Xeon 6 core cpus and runs WoW. I just want to see what kind of fps you can get in Dalaran with that. It could be the same or higher u know, if you dont try you never know.
You dont understanding what im saying. What I said was I just want to see someone with that setup who plays WoW and show the fps. I didnt say the fps from that setup will be higher or the same as a high end X58
And obviously no one on here has the SR-2 setup so oh well
Shadow detail kills FPS, i put mine on the lowest form, looks good and massive performance gain.
set your multisampling to 8x and go into your WTF config and add the direct X 11 support comand line to it. fixed my frame rate.
I don't play wow but i've played aion for a while and we had similar issues.
low fps in crowded aera with high end system.
the problem is that in crowded aera, the game is cpu dependent so not matter how powerfull are your card, you will see no changes.
I'm pretty sure that if you disable your crossfire, your fps will be same.
Also people reporting high fps like 150 are in a empty room or simply lying.
You can make few tests like check the fps with your cpu @ stock
Disable crossfire and put all your graphics settings to minimum and compare if the change is big.
with thoses tests you should know what is the bottleneck and if its the cpu/game,there is nothing you can do.
disabling shadow may help though.
Wow is super cpu-memory bandwitdh intensive game.
From GPU point of view, even 9800GT is totally enough to play very high details and 4x AA etc.
And please dont compare dalaran FPS here. Thats pointless because dalaran always lags. :D
Anyway. Have a high frequency DDR3 and clocked CPU and youll do fine.
Google for more info. There should be tests about it somewhere. Read it few days ago.
An e8400 @ 3.6GHz system with 2GB ddr1000 at 1920x1080 gets me 50fps using an 8800GT card and 27fps using a Sapphire 4890. I'd be interested to see how an nVidia 460/470/480 and ati 5870/6870 compare.
Its funny this post arose while I was looking for any information on the HD6xxx Dual processor cards.
A neighbor said a guy at work wants me to build him a kick ass computer strickly for WOW. I've been throwing stuff together in the good old Newegg cart and can't get below 600 for core components for inside a case with todays tech. If I remember correctly though 2 years ago when I was playing wow on private servers I had a e8400 with 8 gigs of ram and dual 9800 GTX KO cards and ran the game just fine on all high settings and 1920x1050.
So what would be the best setup for wow?
I was pricing a gigabyte board with an i3 530 and 4 gigs coupled with a hd 5770. Should that be plenty or is any of that too much?
Not to jack the thread or anything, but it still goes along the lines of what you need to get the sweet spot in FPS with WOW. lol
Other than dalaran and a very few 25man raid bosses i dont have any fps issues, everything maxed except shadows one tick lower at 1920x1600, but i always run WCG while playnig wow  I can fix raid fps by stop cruching, dalaran fps issue is not my pc issue though
As it stands, a 470 would be the best bet for WoW at 1680x1050 with high settings. The ultra shadow setting kills any machine I've played the game on and in the beta ultra shadows in twilight highlands (end game 85 zone ) brings even a GTX480 to its knees regardless of a 4Ghz + cpu, fast memory and storage system.
That coupled with full scene based water reflection, there are areas where top of the line hardware can fall under 30fps and these are actual game play areas, not just cities. Stormwind runs better than Dalaran did, same with Org ( in 4.0.3 ) so don't put too much weight into Dalaran performance anymore, Blizzard have addmited it wasn't an ideal execution. Still, shadows followed by view distance, liquid detail, resolution then particle density seem to effect performance most. I tend to run with shadows, liquid detail and viewdistance on high opposed to ultra as I demand at least 60fps in non city areas ( higher if possible )
Personally a decent processor with a good overclock, a small SSD and a 470 would be most cost effective (I've played the beta on various hardware ranging from a 8800gt to a gtx480 ). SLI/CF still is a waste of money for WoW. An SSD isnt needed but it increased my enjoyment of the game substantially.
No-one complains a 6yr old game doesn't run well on their new $2000 machine :p:
Stop beating that dead horse and go play something which actually USES your new gear
