Don't worry guys, I'll take care of it.
Ahem...
BEHOLD NVIDIA OFFICIALS! I SHALL PURCHASE A 5870, IF YOU DON'T SELL GTX 480 FOR $449 AT LAUNCH!
That should do it. Enjoy.

Not my news, just PCPerspectives/TweakTown. The others hinting at increases are using the same source, but because you'd have to listen to the podcast, and few do, no source is given.
I'm just placing a source to other's info.
Delays or not, this stuff doesn't matter to me.
And if you know Shane Baxtor, this thread is all due to them hyping thier own rumours. In case you didn't, ShaneBaxtor and TweakTown belong together in the same sentence. He's using his own info, based on Fermi performance, plus the TSMC news, to single out the lack of a price drop(FERMI cost), and maybe an increase(TSMC problems).
I must say that the hype machine and rumours caused by this 6-month delay
has been truly epic. :yepp:
When is the 5970 coming out?
j/k
(but it's not worth $700 lol, maybe 500)
Just confirmed that the price of 5870 in the UK increased by about £20~£30.
The people that sit in these forums and say " I'm waiting for the 5870 to drop 30 bucks before I buy one " make me LoL. Really you would sit here for 6 months and wait for the prices to drop 30 bucks ?
im waiting for it to cost 200$, which should have happened by about late summer if it wasnt for TSMC slowing down the whole industry, and Nvidia going a pricing rampage.
ati/amd said they liked launching 300$ cards, but now they have the option to launch a 400+$ card, they jump right on it.
How much improvement would I get if I'm using gtx295 now and I got a 5970 or 5870? How long have the 5970 been on the market and how much of that time have they really been in stock? Every time I look they are sold out since launch, or are $700.
edit - one more thing - I have not paid any attention to the news on Fermi, is there a dual gpu version coming out? I think that's what I'm, waiting for if I want to see an upgrade that warrants the price.
If your using a GTX 295, besides DX11 a negative is what you'd get. If you are going for a pair of 5870s or a 5970 then you'd have a nice boost.
If I were you, I will buy SAPPHIRE 100282-3SR Radeon HD 5850 1GB for US$279.99, free shipping @newegg now (assuming you are in the US) :D

just that kind of savings in general. if the one he wanted now (based on ports, brand, heatsink/fan quality) was overpriced, it may be possible to save 50$ by waiting 2 months, considering no one has a clue how accelerated the price dropping process will be now.
if the 2GB 5870s cant be priced so freaking high they match a 480 (since they wont be that much better anyway) they might have to drop everything down a bracket.
i also wouldnt pick up one just on principal, paying the price i could have pain in november just would make me hate seeing it every time i looked in my case.
Anyone know either HD5850 or HD5870 is available at Dell? I have a 20% coupon off and really tempted to get a pair of either one. Still scratching my head whether HD5850 CF or HD5870 CF is better in term of price/performance.
