Not quite, who do you think provided the graphics core for the 965G? :D
I seem to remember CDs being quite popular also.

Well I didnt realize Sony had any hand in that, but looking it up they didn't really develop it, they just sent some people to decide on standards with Phillips.
Far different than something like Mini-Disk, Memory Stick, BetaMax, DAT, ATRAC, Sony Dynamic Digital Sound, HiFD, or UMD.
xbox was x86
Well I haven't. The textures are very low, no T&L, no bump mapping, no AA, make the world look really bland, flat and miserable.
FF7-2 you mean Crisis Core? It looks 'ok' because of very high poly models with undetailed background worlds. :(
This is done by design. Their thought process was that they can use their dominant position to force game makers to design their games to run on their very different architecture, and in most cases would not want to spend the time to rewrite much of it to also run on the PC like formats, or would make it easier for them to buy exclusive rights to games because of the difficulties of porting them.
I had a Kryo II card way back in the day. It worked well but like mentioned the lack of a hardware T&L and iffy drivers they fell out of site. I have to admit I am excited to see Sony can do with the power VR chip. Also Power VR chips are used in arcade boards too I think.
Does this mean it might have more than 2 good exclusive games and that GT5 is going to be a PS4 launch title?
I think I care more about hardware backwards compatibility, a good library of games and a price under $400 more than I care about sonys view on being a home entertainment system rather than a videogame machine. Why doesn't Sony fix those problems, and fix their 20 year old controller that is horrible for racing and fps games, and basically anything that uses the analog sticks? PS3 had me sold until they removed hardware ps2 support and turned GT5 into vaporware, I was just waiting for the price to come down and GT5 to get a solid release date. During that time I discovered Forza 1 on my Xbox and ran out and picked up a 360 just for Forza 3 to get my racing fix.
I don't think the idea is to make something 3x-5x (or whatever) as fast as the competition but to make something that's more efficient, so they can be competitive performance wise without using a big/expensive chip. at least that's how I would interpret this, they realized that the $600 console is a bad idea and PVR offers them a way to reduce costs.
amen to that, heck in many ways the PS2's hardware was a step back from the dreamcast. The fact that some games looked good on the playstation 2 is nothing more than a testament to the developers willpower. Anything done on the PS2 would have looked better with the same amount of effort on any other console of the generation. Dreamcast suffered from the opposite problem, a lack of willpower and know how is pretty much why its games aged so badly.
Well lets see if Sony finally takes the initiative and give consoles the one thing they have always starved from;ram. 1GB cheap DDR2 wins over 2x256mb XDR any day of the week in any circumstance where gaming matters.
So the Playstation 4 will be released in 2012?, interesting as I recall Sony told many journalists that the Playstation 4 would be released around 2016 or so. Why the desperation and how reliable is this? I wonder, judging how the Playstation 3 is doing I would say this is not a news, Sony wants to kill off their bad chapters and nothing better than releasing something new.
The Playstation 3 does not have many AAA exclusive titles, maybe that is the problem. I consider its price acceptable at $300 and a plus for being slimmer, $599 was just too salty and bulky.
imgtec isn't a graphics beast or manufacturer. They're meant to be more of an "ideas company"
Played God of War on PSP, it looks awesome. With a decent effort games look good on it. Sadly most PSP games are backports of other platforms, where they just downsize the models and textures (which obviously looks horrible).
Concepts like Loco Roco or Patapon are good too. No need for fancy 3d shaders there. PSP editions of some 2d games like Castlevania TC look excellent.
The PSPGo is clearly a step backwards on many aspects, with no improvement at all from previous generations, that's why it fails. Smaller screen, wtf were you thinking Sony ? I detect the project has been mostly shelved and only marketing types are now running it.
And remember so far the PSP is still one of the best portable media players (for its price) - 480x272 4.3" widescreen for the previous PSP, with an excellent sound too - i still see a lot of people watching movies on their PSP on transports.
As for the PS4 and the assorted BS marketing statements, let's wait and see. What would be the incentive to buy one over a PS3 though, which is already filling a lot of roles in many living rooms - blue ray player, console, media center.. and it does that rather well.
Just remember for the "3 or 4 times better" statement, they dont say better in what, and they also dont say on which segment they pick the comparison from (entry level or high end ?)
Some, but that isn't really the case now. There used to be a ton of different arcade boards but then that fell off.
Of the current ones you have out now in abundance the naomi/atomiswave is just the guts of a dreamcast (and this tech is dieing off), Namco's arcade board is just a PS3, and the Taitox2 is just a PC, even runs embeded windows. The past generation had boards with the guts of a PS2 and one one with the guts of a game cube and the taito type x which was a PC.
What you're talking about was more back in the saturn days.
if PVR really had some secret ultra-powerful tech Intel would cached them out them long time ago!
Roar Roar, lets hate up some Sony.
Its unreasonable to expect really good graphics from a portable device released that was released in 2004 for goodness sake. When most games look better than or equal to 3gs games which was something released in 2009, than we don't have valid hate.
What around 2004 thats portable and not a laptop that can compete graphic wise. The Nintendo DS?
The PSP was praised for its graphics at the time near universally.
You have to remember the size of a PSP battery is not much bigger than a cell phones so its unreasonable to expect crazy graphics.
People also have to remember the same holds true of the PS2 vs gamecube/xbox. Both were released a year and a half later. Which gives so much advantage for a console maker.
However this hold true true for the PS3 too. It was released a year later than the xbox 360 and in most instances looks slightly worse or the same. The PS3 is a failure graphically because the PS3 specs were designed far too ahead of time and the RSX was outdated for a recently released console. This ironically was because they hired Nvidia, which did not give them access to a future generation chip, which is a pretty :banana::banana::banana: move when they were paid 1 billion dollars for it.
Rushing a console to the masses can be bad too with the latest tech too in the form of bad reliability which is highly apprarent of the xbox 360.
I think that is probably because many devs are very familiar with optimizing for the PSP/PS2 architecture, and that there are few if any AAA titles coming out for the iPhone right now. But the installed base of iPhones/iPod Touches is going to outstrip that of the PSP in no time and it will set a pattern for future genrations that Sony won't be able to reverse [PSP has sold 51.6 million units since 2004 and the iPhone/iPod Touch have sold over 30 million units in half the time period]. As soon as more major handheld devs start taking notice of the iPhone the situation will change.
2 Displays @ 1080p 120FPS  Don't believe any hype, just hope it launches at a decent price. Reliability is a plus, my Ps3 drive just broke.
