Glad to hear it, thanks for letting me know! Over on the Intel forums they are trying to narrow down what hardware combination is causing certain drives to have issues (since there seems to be a somewhat equal number of people having issues and not having issues).

The results do look impressive to me. With the use of Trim I wonder if that will allow this HD to be affordable for the the masses?

Crikey this issue almost reminds me of Seagate and their firmwares ;)
It's a shame Intel didn't have any "Love" for us Gen1 owners.... even a slight upgrade would have been welcome. I still have my fingers crossed for the ellusive 8840 firmware update and ChristmasTRIMing.

I have had no issues. My only initial issue was with AHCI. It wasn't on originally before flashing, I was always in IDE, and after I flashed, I went to AHCI and got a BSOD. All I had to do was go back to IDE, then go enable the AHCI driver in W7. Then AHCI worked. Personally, I think the main issue here isn't the drives bricking, its BIOS issues with certain computers. I recommend anyone who has a BIOS with the option to switch to IDE, try that. There is no reason certain drives brick, while others run fine. As long as you flashed according to intel's instructions, the outcome should always be the same. I think it'll turn out that BIOS are to blame for all these issues, or that people haven't turned on the AHCI driver in W7, as was the case with me. TRIM works great in W7, definitely worth the time to upgrade firmware.

Could it be people who have either 1) modded their ICH option ROMS' or people on old ICH9R 7.5.xxx option ROM's?
I hope these issues are not serious and that Intel have a swift solution for everybody!

Sorry for threadjack, but how could I "improve" my Gen 1 Intel drive.
It's seen alot of action, Would a complete HDDErase and a clean install do the trick and refresh it a bit ? Im lost...lol

A HDDErase 3.3 wipe would not only "refresh it a bit", it would make it factory fresh and with optimal performance.. Give it a go, just make sure you use HDDErase with the SSD in "IDE - Compability mode"..

When i was updating i got a error saying : Error reading from drive A : dos area
I aborted and tried again, still same error.. rebooted and i entered windows..installed the tool and this said i was updated... i tried to install intel sata driver IMSM_V8901023.. couldnt instal this tho..

I rebooted and changed IDE to AHCI.. tried twice but got bsod before i could enter windows.. swiched back to IDE...then i found out to change a setting in registry for windows to be able to install the sata driver.. after this i set AHCI in bios and i could boot fine in windows..

I didnt need a reinstall

Is there any tool that allows you to do some kind of trim command manually, for example once a week?

That's exactely what their SSD Optimizer program does. You can even create a schedule so you won't have to run the command manually. :up:

It`s a damn shame that Intel decided not to include TRIM support for the Gen1 drives :mad: But seeing the trouble they got with implementing TRIM on Gen2 it may be for the best ;)

Shame on Intel for futt bucking the enthusiast and pioneers that paid big bucks for the Gen1 drives..

Intel has 2 SSD variants in terms of thickness, 7mm and 9.5mm. Which is suitable/meant for laptops.... :confused:

9,5 mm is the “normal” thickness used in laptops. However, if you buy the 9,5mm thick G2 you will be able to remove a black strip with 4 screws. What remains is the 7mm thick one. Look at pics of the G2 and it will be clear.
