Found a 9800GT on ebay for 70 bucks. Might as well try this out!
ok went out and bought a 9500gt w/ 1gig and i got nuttin.. No physx accel? no card installed? Folled the instructions pressed CAKE and then burn?? it shopwed up after the patch then disappeared after reboot.. tried re patchin but says nuttin to patch ??
Strike that... got it... had to extend my desktop and enable the card.... but heres another question, Ive got an ageia 128meg card comming can I use 2 physx cards to improve performance??? if not Ill prolly test the ageia card and if its comperable sell the 9500gt... or vice versa...
cant run the physx on high bad lag?? but normal works well no lag decent improvement
Guess its for sure.. Cant get my Ageia BFG 128meg PPU to work at all w/ my 4870x2 and Batman AA :(
The 9500 is just too laggy by itself and doesnt seem to help running the 9500 and the ageia cards together.. so Guess Ill sell the ageia card and take back the 9500gt.. Guess my only question is, is it worth it to go grab a 9800 card for the physx if of course I could find a deal?
A 9500 is too slow to run high levels of PhysX. A 9600 is often recommended as a minimum, and IIRC you can find "Green" versions of the card which require no additional power connector, just powered through the PCI-E slot.
Why cant I just activate PhysX on my xfire 5770s?
I could buy a third card for PhysX, but even that isnt officially supported by Nvidia.
Its a bad idea that Nvidia discontinued their mobo's. Imagine a next gen IGP doing PhysX while GT300/GF100 SLi taking care of the render.
Also when is Nvidia going to license AMD to use SLi in their mobo's, its a money shot since well Nvidia will not make any new AMD mobo's and well the 980i sucks!!
Didn't Nvidia say that the AMD processor market was too small to bother with, so no more AMD based chipsets because of that? So I doubt we will see Nvidia license SLI to AMD, especially without any silicon to go along with it. As for IGP doing PhysX, even the best on board graphics would be too slow to be useful.
lol
it wasn't small earlier this decade
this is entertaining
said screw it and got a 285 GTX.... Seems excellent in Batman but the shatter room on Mirrors edge is still laggy ?? I have it maxxed just as i do in batman but its almost unplayable???
3dvantage score went up by about 4000, 3dmark same.. Spent prolly more than i shoulda but i am dissapointed by the mirrors edge results :(
Maybe Ill try just runnin off the 285 and see if it is the same result ??
Why you people still buy nvidia hardware is beyond me....
Sorry if my post lacked some nuance.
What i mean is that i truly do not understand why you would spend your money on products from a company that treats its customers unreasonably in several ways.
If i would have an ati gpu and an nvidia gpu for physics and physics would stop working because of some questionable business decision on nvidia's part i would, above all else, be pissed and demand my money back to then never buy their things again.
Many here are so forgiving...
So no way of using PhysX on my one and only 4850X2? I assume the PhysX render must be done by nvidia hardware, right?
As of right now yes you need an actual Nvidia vid card .. I bought a ageia 128meg Card to see if that would work but as its been stated Nvidia has now blocked the PPU card from working with their new drivers (which are needed to play the newer releases).. I tried a 9500GT but was sluggish under high settings in Batman but this 285GTX seems snappy.. I only paid $180 so I didnt think it was too bad as I figured i could stick it on ebay for at least $200 if I wasn't satisfied.... Now Im considering getting a 2nd 285 and hacking my board to make SLI work :) Ive seen some pretty tilted benchmarks showing 2 285's blow my 4870x2 away???
Sadly I still cant figure out why mirrors edge is giving me such laggy screens rendering with my 4870x2 and using the 285 soley for physX , it should be humming?? any ideas??
Yeah its using the cpu. Stupid game reverts to the cpu even with a physx card on board.
This worked for me

Delete the following:
PhysXcore.dll
PhysXDevice.dll
and the folder called PhysXLocal
DO NOT DELETE PHYSXEXTENSION.DLL. The game will not run without it.
This is pretty neat, hopefully i can get the links to still work and try this out. Thanks for the info everyone.
I have to laugh :ROTF::rofl: The PR are payed for word or what? They just can't say what everybody knows - PhysX is the very Open standard… … blah … … if you use it on NVIDIA HW only ? They are making enemy even from companies in their own stable - BFG for example. Not only with this step, but with many more before and probably many more after. I won't be suprised if other vendors would go for AMD...Quote:
"Physx is an open software standard any company can freely develop hardware or software that supports it. Nvidia supports GPU accelerated Physx on NVIDIA GPUs while using NVIDIA GPUs for graphics. NVIDIA performs extensive Engineering, Development, and QA work that makes Physx a great experience for customers. For a variety of reasons - some development expense some quality assurance and some business reasons NVIDIA will not support GPU accelerated Physx with NVIDIA GPUs while GPU rendering is happening on non- NVIDIA GPUs. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused but I hope you can understand."
I would personally be ALL OVER a BFG branded AMD GPU.....
