Which cat will give the best performance with Win 2K?

At least the Athlon 64 FX performance will improve with WinXP 64bit. It is very much future proof.
Going slightly off topic but could you tell me the exact stepping info on your FX... They're pretty good results for air cooling. I might look out for one of these...:slobber:
Tell me by PM if you don't want to post here.
Thanks...
Paul :D
EDIT: Cat3.2 some say... It will probably have to be forced
For me it was Win2k + SP3 + DX8.1 + Cat 3.5...
It's only a matter of trying... :)
Couldnt resist so tonight I quickly ghosted the old image from a few weeks ago and let everything load up and blah blah blah.
Ran some 3dmark and it only took no less than about 5 goes to get this result;

Im pretty happy and Im confident that 26K can be had this weekend. Looking thru screenshots and I was confused from all the testing in last 24 hours; 245 1:1 DID infact give better than 250 5:4 - untill tonight with a new install - non tweaked install too ;)
Sig is updated and I think I hear Britney calling me down the hall ;)
Night
You are also using Win2K with DirectX 8.1 and and CAT 3.2?Quote:

Where can I download CAT 3.2 now? Also how can I get it to detect my Radeon 9800XT?
Appreciate it guys :)
I dont know if I read the last 2 replies wrong, but Im on Intel not AMD ;)
Manoj, Im using Winxp, SP1a, 5.0.2.103 Intel INF, Cat 3.2 with DX8.1b
Mickey, I think my vid card might be a problem though. :( No mods and its tearing a little at the current speeds of 490/393. Hopefully with some extra vgpu it might get a little higher. But for now, I dont think Ill be doing any *serious* damage till a 9800XT arrives.
The above score was at 250fsb 5:4 and now I might try some 245fsb 1:1 action and see how compares :)
ps
Should I maybe remove 3dmark comments and make a thread in 3dmark forum? :)
was reading your thread at ocau forums but forum is down again or slow..... p4c800-e tried 1010 or 1011 bios regarding the reboot issue ?
execellent creative
all you need now is a phase cooled xt and you will beon 1st page of 3dmark easily
TD what results wre you gettign with the 3200+ for daiyl useage w/o hdd corruption
Eva, was 1011 or 1009 default, not sure I must admit but now using the 1014 and same ยงยงยงยง. Today has been able to bench at 250 for the past 1.5 hours without breaking a sweat so i dunno whats going on. Im convinced its the mobo :( :)
26K!!!
AHHH another release for P4C800E! But you say it's not helping eh? :(
It is the mobo, by the way, while it's potential may be better than anything out there, it replete with anomalies. Thing is, some work fine.
Did you want my address and I'll test it on board? :D
Manoj, where did you buy the stuff?
Ive been looking for a goood US based online retailler for ages, which ship internationally, of course:D ?
Newegg doesent:mad:
Thanks!
I don't know what did it, but my mad voltage glitches seem to have gone away, the board is running like a champ now, odd, but I'm not complaining. :DQuote:

Now there's just the RAM to sort out. :(
same question :)Quote:

I waa hoping to try a max3 but mdzcpa says he is getting sort of similar things happening :(
Hopefully have the prom modded soon and then we can see if it is the heat on the chip or is if the chip itself. If the prob persists, THEN ill try another mobo
I'm writing an article on the ramifications of the industry switching to mutli-stage power supplies under the guise it's (anything but economic) much more stable, then the two-stage supply. Which of course is costly because larger, higher quality capacitors are needed. As far as cost, the capacitor is the third most costly item on the mobo after microchips, and PCB respectively.
I only wish I had a better grasp of electronic circuitry to test and measure these currents as they flow across the board. My aritlce will be based on research, but it's always better to sit down at a bench with Oscilliscopes, and voltage meters etc.
By the by, Stonie, was it the BIOS update which you beleived rectified your voltage swings?
Also what this about the Legacy device having some effect on system stability?
Finally eXcaiberPC ship's using Global Priority Mail. I use Priority Mail to ship almost everything. Got a package shipped from Newport RI, to Canada in under 5-days. And HERE'S the link to their Global Prioity page for further info. They're famous for including the steppings on many CPU's they sell. They also sell just about anything else you'd need. :)
I haven't had a chance to try the update yet, it hasn't arrived, I think my friend who is sending me the disk has fallen foul of NTL's DNS outages, a hell of a lot of people in the UK haven't been able to get online for a couple of days.Quote:

It just seems to have gone away magically, I have re-seated the SP-94, although I don't think that could have sorted it out, but it was happening at a higher overclock than my current stable one, so maybe the instability could have had something to do with it?
I had read the thing about disabling USB Legacy somewhere here on XS, but I can't seem to find it, however, in the OCZ Support Forum there is a sticky about disabling it while using MemTest86, on Canterwood and Springdale boards, but I'm not sure yet why it helps.
:slobber: ...what can i say? just want the chip of yours;) .To bad they are to costy.....Go for some nice 27k:toast:
good luck

You can try http://www.atacom.com
They are very nice. I bought all my things from them.
Well great work creative. For how long are you going to be usign this chip for (05 is all 64bit)
what clock are you running at for daily use? or this is for benchmarkign only
Damnitt!
My mum just got home to find the P4C800-E was playing it's mad temp reading game again, CPU @ 86 degrees C my arse, so she had to shut it dowm 16 hours into a Prime95 stability test, crap.
nice creative keep us posted :)
Manoj, i tried looking but it seems they only ship to usa?Quote:
Send me an e-mail and I will explain it to you.Quote:

Crash, prob till about Easter minimum so far :)
gabbax, cheers bud. Your 2.6 is a ripper also
Running 250fsb for day to day also so thats why I dont believe the cpu is at the end of the line yet. Just need better Mobos or Cooling
Stop running that dam prime-95 stability test. I still don't undertsand the purpose of this. Burn-in is a myth - http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=152Quote:

But if you must insist make sure your in the room. I know you've done everything correct my friend, but your about the fifth person with Rev.2 board whom has seen this exact same problem of 86C. I dfon't think your CPU went to 86C or it would have shut itself down, but none-the-less I'd RMA that board pronto.
I do believe given the nature of semiconductors Memory MAY benefit from burn-in, but everything about a modern CPU's design, is geared towards preserving it's life, and avoiding such stresses. Remember Thermal Throttling, and Prime-95 may not go hand in hand. It's bound to be defeatest to the designer's intent. In other words the test your running is simply triggering Thermal-throttling among other safety features built into the chips architecture.
Seems like a pretty sound senario
