Hooking eight of them to the first slot permanently and switching the remaining eight towards the nf200 which then have to be shared between the two x16 slots seems like it would defeat it's purpose of providing a full triple x16 interface (or is it only dual x16?). The way it's setup now is more like triple x8 which to be fair is still better than what others are offering.

well according to his tests, no...

i guess even dual and tri sli would be slightly faster without the nf200 in between and running 8/8 and 8/4/4 from the cpu, but 1156 doesnt officially support this lane config... plus cards arent really working very efficient with less than 16 lanes assigned to them, we all know that for some reason cards perform slightly better if they are connected to a 16 link which then ends up in a 8 link bottleneck compared to having a 8 link to the cpu/chipset directly...

so by hooking up the nf200 this way there should be no drop for single gpu cards, no or close to no drop for dual gpu cards, tri sli is possible via 8/4/4 to the cpu with 2 cards having a virtual 16 link through the nf200 so the perf drop shouldnt be that big... plus it enables quadsli, not in a perfect lane assingment of 4/4/4/4 but again thats not officially supported by the cpu.

the best would be if the cpu would support 8/4/4 and 4/4/4/4 and the vgas would make use of less than 16 lane configs efficiently and use the bandwidth efficiently... but in this not perfect world, i think they use an nf200 in the best way possible to enable tri and quad vga setups without hurting single vga performance... really very well done i gotta say :toast:
