okay I´ll just return it to the dealer...
anyone testet these "locked" cpu´s on anything else than Nf7-S
?
I tested mine on epox and still locked :('
so I sold it for a $10 loss the day after I got it
was a good clocker otherwise and would have done well had I had multipliers to play with :(
Someone has to sacrifice their chip and start trying to figure this thing out... Nothing is foolproof, I'm sure someone will figure out a way to unlock these. :)Quote:

IMHO, the only way to unlock these CPUs is to find out the exact value of the missing smd capacitor (right above the black lable with the stepping code etc.) and how to resolder it to the CPU package. But that might be quite hard to do.
BTW, I just got a Duron Applebred from week 38 and I bet with you that it's locked, too. Didn't have the time to test it yet, but it lacks the smd cap that I talked about some lines above. :(
So, who has got the skills needed to measure the value and resolder the smd part???
that cap has been missing since they moved to the newer organic packaging after week 20 something. It is not affecting the lock at all. There is something else the matter. And being week 38 I say you have a 99% chance of that cpu being UNLOCKED and able to upgrade the cache. I would like to get some of those cpus :O
Are you 100% sure?  I thought that I still saw the cap on my Barton which already has the new type of package.
I'm positive, I have both and they both don't have that cap
you can reference neweggs site too and they show a week 33 cpu and it's missing that cap as well. So unfortunately that's not it :(
would have been nice
You are right! Just checked some pics myself as I can't check my week 33 barton (it's i munich right now and I'm not :D).Quote:

Hmm, what the hell did they do to these locked CPUs then???
If they really locked them the way that Intel did it, then they should be aware that the number of sold chips will decrease in the near future.
going to get a older stepping in the morning.. week 38 or so. I´ll post you the results!
Call me daft, but has anyone given candjac a shout yet on the unlocking problem?
Was wondering the sme thing myself Marci.
Candjac would be the one to find a workaound.
Pops.
do you know what frys electronics policys are for returning a cpu?
its been 10 days so far i dont have the retail box no papers just the cpu i wana switch for other 2500?
im in ther system with a credit card showing i bought the barton to begin with thanks
barton 2500 locked and unlocked codes:
locked:
AQXCA 0340
AQXFA 0339
AQXFA 0340 MPMW
AQXFA 0334 (?, since there are no other reports of pre week 39 locks)
AQYFA 0340
AQYFA 0341
AQYFA 0342
AQYFA 0343 RPMW
AQZEA 0341 RPMW
AQZFA 0341 XPMW
AQZFA 0339 UPMW
AQZFA 0342 TPMW
AQZFA 0342 UPMW (!!)
unlocked:
AQZEA 0334
AQZEA 0339 UPMW
AQZFA 0340 UPMW
AQXFA 0336
AQXFA 0340 TPMW
AQZFA 0342 UPMW (confirmed unlock in Australia, 1 reported locked elsewhere)
You see there is no stepping or week pattern, the only way to increase your chances is to try to get a pre week 39 Barton...
just bought a aqzfa 0340 spmw and it is unlocked. it also runs about 3 degrees cooler than the 0332 it replaced
Here's a couple of pages of good reading
toward the efforts in trying to unlock the Barton:

Excellent thread over there.
bought a AQXFA 0334
Assuming its unlocked but havent mounted it yet..
post the result later :-)
i dont care your problems and wont help you
ups..
anyone tried the AQXFA 0334 yet?.. seems to be the one that i´v bought..
Don't know if this might help, but I've got a 0333 AQXFA and it is unlocked and does 2,2 Ghz at default and 2,4Ghz at about 1,85V on air.
sounds nice.. Seems that the AQXFA 0336 is unlocked to.. same goes with the AQXEA 0334....
Maybe its just me but it seems amd forums have removed the thread. Tell you the truth it doesnt suprise me one bit :rolleyes:Quote:

people have tried hard coding the pins with no luck on the underneth.that would be the best possability to get it working multi wise.
ith the L1's looking intact it seems amd did this internally and like intels multis is unlockable.
i posted on a thread at amd's support forums
