In answer to whoever it was who asked about how much more surface area I have done a rough calculation (rough being the main word there).

Assuming both rads have the same folds per inch and thickness

PA120.3 = 380mm long and 120mm wide = 45600mm²
PA140.3 = 420mm long and 140mm wide = 58800mm²

Percentage increase in facial surface area = 29%

This is slightly less than some people may have expected as the fan spacing is closer the PA140 rad is only 40mm longer rather than 60mm.

Once again this calculation is very very rough no actual measurements have been taken.

Thanks for the calculation. Based on the length of a 120.2 and a 120.3, could you also do a rough estimate for a 120.4? That would be fantastic man! :)

EDIT: to those who know...is this a PA140.3 or a PB140.3? (not necessarily PB exactly, but a revision that has progressed past the PA design)

I´m REALLY happy to see 140mm rads to come. I think this or RX140mm series (if they make them) will replace my XSPC RS360 rad from bottom of my case in future (thats why I bought RS360 and it was good quality one and its doing really well cooling my Q6600)..

Yeah as Vapor says for a 120.4 it will be [(120*4)+(10*3)]*120 = 510*120 = 61200mm²

If they used 15mm spacing rather than 25mm then you would just get (120*4)*120 = 480*120 = 57600mm²

So if the PA120.4 follows the original PA120.X design it will have greater facial area than the 140.3 if it conforms to the more common 15mm fan spacing then they will be approximately the same.

Good info. I hope it follows the traditional design... that way it would fit as a drop in replacement for the 120.3!

Umm... don't you need to account for fan spacing? If you do 120*4 then you're assuming that the fans are mounted right next to each other. Shouldn't those calcs be [(120mm*4)+(15mm*3)]*120mm = 63000mm^2 and [(120mm*4)+(25mm*3)]*120mm = 66600mm^2?

When fans are spaced at 15mm, they bump up to the next fan.

I guess I should have explained fan spacing a bit better (Or at all :D) it is the centre to centre distance between the mounting screws of the fans.

As Waterlogged says with 15mm spacing you get no gaps between the fans with the current PA120.X they have 25mm spacing which puts a 10mm gap between each fan.

Hope that explains it :)

I've never been afraid to run my rads external, constraining your system to all internal is a good way to impose unnecessary constraints. Some folks like the challenge of an all internal system build, I've never had the patience myself. I want something that performs well and very easy to maintain. I've had case enclosed rads before, and they have always been a nightmare to keep clean especially if they are tucked away somewhere. The exterior mounts on the other hand can be as big as you want and easy to take care of.

With blocks and flow rate performance differences getting so tight these days, adding excessive rad capacity is an easy means to real gains and it goes hand in hand with silence if you want both silence and top performance, you need alot of radiator.

Anyhow, glad to see more of the 140s...just hope to see some quads as well.

Things you need to consider are,

1. Which will fit? If both will do you get better airflow from long and thin or short and fat?
2. 4x 120mm fans more choice or 3x 140mm fans with limited choice (although its getting better)
3. If they have similar facial area (depends on fan spacing on the 120.4) then can you get more airflow for the same noise from 4x 120mm over 3x 140mm? Or vice versa.
4. Cost. This is an unknown currently.

After you have considered that it is likely that the PA140.3 will have a lower pressure drop than the PA120.4 as it will have more tubes to split the flow, however this is probably negligible as the PA rads are not at all restrictive to begin with.

In the end I think it will come down to space and fan choice.

I have a PA120.3 in the front of my stacker STC-01, its cooled by 3 140mm yates, switching to the PA140.3 will be a breese and give me 29% more cooling without changing or moving the fans at all. Thats quite awsome!

I like the idea of 140 mm fans. From my limited experience with a newer Lian Li case, they are very quiet. I definitely will be experimenting with one of these rads in the future.
