It would sure justify his behavior a bit, but still not fully ... Trash-talking behind anyone's back is not cool ... :shakes:

If he did not know that the drivers were not legal for official WR runs, its one thing but if he knew and tried to push it regardless, then that becomes a problem. The rules are the rules.
Oh boy
I'm actually hoping François isn't involved in this :)
if Francois didnt actually know about official W.R. drivers we discussed here what does it matter massman
More trash talking from Francois of Phenom II X4 liquid helium tests in TG Daily comments:
See post: Can't beat an aircooled Core i7 on 3DMark Vantage ....Quote:
Still can not catch an Aircooled Core 2 Quad or a Core i7 on 3DMark last version (Vantage)
even at 6.5Ghz ... with Helium ... at -230C ...
It shows how the process technology is behind.
The world record of 3Dmark 05 (5 years old benchmark) is already back in Core i7 Quad hands ...
Nice marketing trick, but very bad new in term of process technology, you need liquid Helium to cool a Phenom II ... hummm hummmm
Francois
PS: This is my personal opinion

rofl. Well..... it could be a Fanboi pretending to be Francois Piednol. :D.
So true, when I read the TG article, I got the impression the author doesn't know what he is writing about. Too bad other people can't figure that out.
Core I7 WR at 3.6 GHz  If the level was that low, someone else would have taken the WR with mere air cooling, considering the fact that that kind of speed can be reached with a little more than stock voltage on air cooling :p:
Instead of pointing the gun at AMD, Francois should have asked someone for background information
Maybe we have a different definition of a fair competition, but from my point of view, how Intel (I know it is not Intel, just Francois, but you might get that impression) reacts to AMD OC results, now that AMD is back after a long time, is not exactly fair.
Phenom II clock for clock performance is not as good as Intels, that is certain, so 3D Mark 05 is one of the few benchmarks AMD can get really close or be slightly better than Intel with very extreme cooling. Intel still holds a bunch of WRs in other applications, so I dont get how you can get mad over a single WR that AMD managed to get. Bob has shown that it won't last long anyway, so why not letting AMD have its 15 miniutes of fame. Especially knowing what Intel is capable of. Instead of wasting time, Intel should get back to work and remove the coldbug on i7

Oliver  Very reasonable!
Well, I don’t know if François really realized what consequences his comments would generate. :) I don't know him very well, just met him @Vegas actually. BTW he most likely looks like a teaser than a bad guy. That's the way he was during the party, always laughing at someone or at something, teasing somebody; but just for fun, not with bad intentions. Maybe I'm naive, well maybe; but it seems me he did that cuz he thought that was funny and not to hurt. Anyway, what's funny for someone isn't necessarily funny for someone else and can easily become annoying.
Also, I'm not sure François wanted his FB comments to be written in an article. TG daily's article might be a different matter.
Anyway people are unconsciously talking about apples and oranges... I mean the wish for WR which isn't the same for everybody, the CPU types, the VGA types, the driver types, etc. I've talked to Bob, and is happy with his number actually, he doesn't care about the driver being approved by FM, he just ran the benchmark the way he preferred.
On one hand, he thinks that he currently owns the 'probable' WR. Fair enough, that's a matter a point of you. On the other hand, he respects the fact that you guys got the 'confirmed' WR (i.e. matching FM confirmation procedure). A 'confirmed' WR is to be brung to light and a 'probable' one is to stay in the dark side. If everybody agrees with that then, everything else is whisper in the wind. ;)
:toast:
Yes, Bob's result is rightly #1 in hwbot.org where they accept all results. It is unofficial world record. Similar thing can happen for example in 100 meters men if you run below 9.69 seconds but have too much tail-wind (+2.0 ms/s). It won't be counted as official world record since you have need to follow rules by IAAF (in 3DMark05's case Futuremark). Everyone agree?
Bottom line ... there is few computers faster at 3DMark05 than what was claim, it is not a world record ...
If it is wrong to point this out, then, i was wrong ... sorry ...
In the mean time, I posted this on my facebook, i did not contact anybody on my own. (I posted this, knowing that Ian is on my friend list, in a playfull spirit, some fanboyes need to cool down a little, but don't put liquid nitrogen on your head ... )
Don't claim you have the world record on something if you know there is a faster computer out there.
Francois
Claiming to have the FASTEST CONFIRMED WR is fine, doesn't matter if there's others out there that aren't confirmed.
For it to be WORLD RECORD, the WORLD must accept the record's validity, and such is not the case, Francois.
I mean really, you could tell by Macci's demeanor(at least I could) that he's personally seen better already(hence the wink), but it's not in the public domain.
The record will chagne hands anyway, eventually, so all this bickering about it seems a bit childish, IMHO.
That said, I don't bench anymore, so could care less who has the record.
Again, that was posted in a playfull spirit on my facebook, and some readers of tgdaily did not understood the playfull nature of it (Even Rick tone was funny, and was suppose to be funny) ... The WAR you imagine does not exist at the individual level, stop trying to see it.
here is what I posted:

Here is what Ian posted:
don't you see the playfull side of it? I understand that for some non native speaker, it can be hard to follow, but don't judge too fast the appearance without the full back ground.Quote:
childish ... for sure, funny, exactly!!!!
Francois
LoL...I don't see it in the first place...that's my issue. But your recent comments on here only seem to bolster TG's opinion of what has transpired.
Personally I think the whole discussion of the issue is doing more harm than good...IMHO all OEMS should be working together to further the industry, not screaming who's fastest. Seems a bit silly to me to tout usage of a pc that no real users will ever have...noone is going to run LN2 or LHe2 to play a game, read the web, or do a render, so the money investing in these displays would be better invested on showing user practical uses of your machines.
 But who am I, except one of those users?
this community has accepted HOF with accepted drivers as the World Record since this was a community. your whole faster system argument is horseshyt and outlines your true ignorance. PCMark05 WRs can't be done with ramdisks...why? because HOF won't recognize it and therefore the community won't. you are apparently above the community. by you making statements like this you exaggerate you ignorance and continue to piss on the community. when you go to another country, under stand the customs before stepping to the podium.
exactly ... OC is a fun sport ... I do love it, in the mean time, keep in mind that 500 liters of Liquide Helium can pay for 2 Core i7 Extreme Edition and their Smackover boards ...
Online price of Liquide Helium is around 5$/Liter in 3 site I found, plus delivery.
It does not stop me from using LN2 ... it is fun.
Yeah, exactly, it's just for fun, so not so important. But as you say, very expensive...I know this firsthand, and that's why I won't bench any more...it's not fun for a regular user to try to compete against all you guys working for OEMs...
I understand that this testing can help further the technology too, to a certain degree, but I'm far more interested in seeing who does the best @ +80c...over a week...rather than a 10-minute bench that takes a couple of hours just to set up...show me clocks @ +80c, 100% stable, scoring more than anyone else, and I'll buy....but there no interest in 10-15 minutes of functionality.
The funny part is how many people try to make it a "bloody war", They need to accept that some time, they take our "jokes" for real serious stuffs, they need to realize that I live in a street with an AMD guy, and he does borrow my car tools some time, the Intel, AMD, Nvidia kids go to the same schools, and we eat sometime together when we do a BBQ.
(he drives a FORD mustang, the Shelby, remarkable engine!)
Fanboys will always find something to say, but the reality is different: We are the people of the silicon valley, we compete with each other, but this is what make us strong.
