thank god... we need the competition... intel are all over the ball at the moment....
Not to doubt, but I would think 1.55v isn't safe for a 45nm processor on air.
I also wonder if these will reap the same effects as core i7 with sli and crossfire for cheaper.
Anyone see how it can run at 32c at 4ghz? That seems to low to be possible.
This would be awesome to see.... macci back in action as well :)
it can run 32c because of low leakage. Also why it scales so well. Macci is nice to see as well.
Well if this is true, as Tony claims, and I want to believe then AMD has had an amazing 6 months from the time the HD4800's were released to these new Phenom II's somewhere in January. Good to see AMD back in the game and let there be competition! :)
I would think it'd still put out more then what 12c over room temp.
Though phenom agena kept temps below 60 till it was consumeing jiggawatts.
Man first McLaren winning the Drivers world title this year & now phenom II looking this good ... year just cant get better any more. :D
My birthday is on Jan 7 and I will hope fully be able to order my birthday gift on Jan 8th. :up: :yepp:
I think you all know which B'day gift Iam thinking about. :p:
The 6 GHz statement have changed:
Quote:
Update: The Phenom II reached WELL over 5.x GHz (read: REALLY over) at 1.9v on liquid nitrogen (boiling point -321F/-196C at 1 atm). Testing looks to have been done on a Gigabyte 790GX motherboard that is currently available.
This is epic.
I hope it turns out to be fast :up:
It's been too long since AMD CPUs were a reasonable choice for a CPU.
I think the tech companies need to do well; to lead a resurgence on Wall Street :up:
holy :banana::banana::banana::banana:
gg amd
they beat their cold bug
and their performance/watt is great
lol man, did someone chunder into their 65nm process or what :rofl:
this is seriously good news. i invoke every party smiley known to xs:
:dj::party::party2::party3::guitar::YIPPIE:
and in the future they're switching to hi-k + 1mb l2 per core
doubling the l2 could push the IPC higher than yorkfield, easily >i7 depending on app, and the top clockspeeds will just get better..
:clap:
edit: and is it just my internet or did the xs servers nearly crash a few mins after this was posted?
i've been trying to read more than the title of this thread for hours
It would be good to see Macci back in action, hopefully with high clocks he will make a run on the ORB for launch.
Yeah well I just wondered why it changed at all. Doesn't really make any difference tho . .
I hope these OC results equal good performance gains. If it does then AMD is competitive again and it's CPU/motherboard price cuts for everyone.

The 6GHz has changed to 5GHz+ because AMD wants to keep it hush hush as shown by the admin's comment:
"sorry for the difference... AMD Is limiting what we can say about the processor right now... What you saw before I edited this thread was correct though."
It posted and ran. ;) Legit Reviews has it spot on but had to pull some stuff back. I got a couple of phone calls while this was going on, everyone that I could hear was very excited. I'm not an extreme bencher but from what was told to me in what I want to use a Phenom for was very encouraging and I can't wait to get one of these buggers. Very low power use at normal speeds, good headroom for air overclocks, it seems like AMD is putting the fun back into owning one of their systems. :)
