After several rumors and leaks, Rockstar Games finally decided to unveil one of the least surprising game announcements in recent years: Grand Theft Auto IV will be arriving on the PC on November 18th and 21st in North America and Europe, respectively.
"We are very excited to be releasing the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "The whole team is dedicated to bringing an amazing gaming experience to the PC. The game looks and plays beautifully on PC and we can't wait for people to play it."
Developed by series creator Rockstar North and set in Liberty City, the latest installment in the enormously successful Grand Theft Auto series features a painstakingly detailed and life-like city for players to explore; a rich, immersive narrative experience; an original soundtrack highlighting the cultural eclecticism of Liberty City; and newly expanded multiplayer just for the PC.
Man I can't wait till November to pick this game up. So many hookers are going to die...........is that healthy ? bah I don't care. I had some much fun in the previous games just messing around not even doing the story.
It's much harder to find hookers compared to previous GTA games. They're only out there at night and only in certain(read trashy) areas. Hopefully Rockstar will improve graphics a bit for PC.
It should run much better hopefully. The PS3 definitely chugs when there is lots of stuff on the screen
Today Rockstar Games released quite a hefty FAQ on the installation process :
http://pc.ign.com/articles/934/934268p1.htmlQuote:
- Activation via Internet (1x per system, no limits, Fallback for systems without web access)
- Copy protection Securom: The original disc is required for playing (Execpt: Download version of GTA 4, for example from Direct 2 Drive)
- Requirements for playing (singleplayer): Games for Windows Live account for saving/achievements (1x free creation), original disc, Securom runs in the background
- Requirements for playing (multiplayer): Active internet connection, Games for Windows Live account, For uploading videos: Rockstar Social Club Account.
- If you don't have web access or don't want to connect your gaming PC to the Internet, Rockstar wants to offer a not yet specified system to activate GTA 4 via another PC with web access. Details are supposed to be available on launch.
- For the normal GTA 4 (PC) version with disc installation, activations are unlimited. But the original disc is required for playing.
- This does not apply for legally downloaded versions of GTA 4: Depending on the vendor the following is possible: Five parallel installations with the possibility to revive a "free” installation, if an old installation is deleted. For this purpose the customer has to have web access with the PC GTA 4 is installed on.
- Those playing GTA 4 with an illegally hacked version have, according to Rockstar, to fear that the game will not be fully playable.
- If you change two major components of your PC (like the graphics card or the CPU), you will possible have to reactivate GTA 4.
i hope steam will be better option for this bs
Apparently Securom will be present in the Steam version as well..... i'm very curious as to how this will work without a disk
Add to this forced use of Windows live for online play = :(

:(.
I can't care less about securom anymore, since it's now common to see this protection in many games. I won't stop myself of playing GTA IV because it uses this protection. It sure is annoying, but I don't care, I just wanna play games, not worry about every protection of every game. 32 players, improved graphics, that's all I wanted! Now get this game out already Rockstar!
who cares about securom
just buy the game and crack it (i crack most games because of annoying disk switching, of course. and now its securom)
You may want to update the release date as well for this old, revived thread...
http://store.steampowered.com/app/12210/
New release date: Dec 2, 2008
With regard to SecuRom, I don't mind it as long as it works like Valve's games, which seems to be the case.
With CD's you can probably use Alcohol or Daemon to emulate the CD.
Gameplay wise, as long as this game preserves a decent GTA gameplay, but with the much improved graphics, cinematic, and especially the addition of multiplayer (without mods), I dont really mind if the single player has a bit less gameplay value than GTA SA (as Ive been reading around).
SecuRom is sure annoying, but this version doesn't limit your installs. Not like EA...
With all of that it BETTER be a DAMN good port.
Ugh. SecuRom is soo annoying.
Why can't they just follow Steam's footsteps?
