Intel X58 coming out 08 Q4

This is an interesting development. Its news to me that bloomfield has no NB, but instead, its built into the cpu. I wonder how this'll affect temps. I skipped 45nm, and I think i'll continue that trend till the 32nm shrink happens w/ 6cores (12 via hyperthreading). Thats going to be awesome.

2010 looks interesting:

Westmere 32nm w/ 12mb L2 cache
Cheap DDR3 (i'm hoping)
Triple channel mobos.

2011:

Sandy Bridge:22nm 4.0ghz up to 32 cores (rumored)

I'm thinking, cheap westmere in 2010, then upgrade to high end sandybridge in 2011 and retire my "slow" westmere to another primary computer. Am I thinking way too far ahead? Most likely!

Correct me if I'm wrong...

3 channels would mean two slots per channel. This would explain 6 sticks. So if you get a kit per channel, thats still 2 stick per kit / channel. So if you get three 4 gig kits, thats 12 gigs, 4 gigs in each channel, right? Its not dual channel with 3 sticks per channel.

I don't see how you would do 3 sticks per channel. Wouldn't that be nine slots?

I guess we can go back to 2 gig kits as 6 gigs is overkill for most people. Hmm, interesting, 6 - 12 gigs of ram without actually increasing ram stick size. Once 4 gig sticks become the norm, 24 gigs on this platform will happen and WOW.... thats a lot of ram.

Triple channel will have 192-bit instead of the dual-channel 128-bit,so it will require more one stick on the channel to fill in the 64-bit missing,so it's going to be 3 sticks kit's;)

Easy answer. How many sticks you need to get dual-channel? And then, how many will you need to use triple-channel? ;)

At least 2 VAR's told me they'll start selling matching sets of 3 just as the sell as they do two now. Or you guys can always go to the memory section of the Forum to get the news first hand for the Reps there.

Hmm, this will get quite expensive. Thanks for the info. Not that I would know, but wouldn't it be more much more efficient if it had a 3rd channel instead of 3 sticks for each of the two channels?

3 & 6 gig ddr3 kits, what do you guys think?

That's exactly what will happen for Bloomfield... 3 Channels with 2 slots per channel.

You can therefore run 3x1GB, 6x1GB, 3x2GB, or 6x2GB to get max performance.

However, you could still run 2 sticks to get 2 channel performance.
