Set the Ai Overclock Tuner to Manual. Help my cold boot problem.
I'm moving to this mobo soon if they don't release an ROG version. I will read and be available to help as I am currently on the X38 version right now and formerly P35. Glad to help where compatable.
I'm more interested on the E6x50 OC on this big boi as well as the old Q6600 to 480FSB+
For the newer 45nm I do hear they are sensitive to higher PLL, but not sure what is norm for them. Read a CMOS actual read out in full auto to see. When overclocking, use manual to keep it low as Auto can take it to over 1.7 as FSB hits 8500. For the record, my E6750 has run daily as so in sig w/ PLL: 1.632v for 500 and 480 FSB. A slightly increased PLL can often help get past the CPU FSB wall. Also use in combo w/ FSBT to 1.47~1.5v (actual).
I also noticed this too and found that these cards are picky with PCIE overclock past 105. Most of us up the PCIE to 110~115 for increased FSB and performance but the Gx2's act up when PCIE is that high.. Just something to try.
Most of the recent ASUS motherboards overvolt from what is set in CMOS v/s actually reported by CMOS power Management or Everest. So for lack of comfusion, please reffer to you voltages as actual, NOT set, cause they very from mobo to mobo and drift as fSB and other items change. Shortly in time, you will figure out what setting gets what actual. Just trial and error and few resets to view. For overclocking , I'd stay with manual for the voltages you know or ask here and many can help. Especially vdimm and PLL.
today i measured VDIMM and NB-Voltage with my DMM.
FSB 445
VDIMM:
Bios Setting 1,60 V
DMM Reading 1,64 V
NB-Volt
Bios Setting 1,25 V
DMM Reading 1,47 V
Bios 1,27 V
DMM 1,31 V
weird... i think this is a bug.
So don´t set 1,25 V for NB :p:
This is perfect board for people who doesnt want to do SLIing ? right? so think of this board like PC4800-E Deluxe board.. slap either E8400 or Q9450 and 9800 GX2 card and good to go right?
right. :D
i have changed from Striker II Extreme to P5E3 Premium and i love it :D
Will the ThermalRight Ultra 120 eXtreme or Noctua NH-U12P fit this motherboard?
The TRUE 120 fits withouth any problem!
Yes, the lowest voltage setting in ASUS BIOS doesn't give the lowest real voltage, and it is also connected to FSB.
On my P5K3 Dlx, I found:
at 333MHz fsb, vmch 1.25v in bios, results 1.236v by DMM.
at 400~450MHz fsb, vmch 1.25v in bios, results 1.536v by DMM.
so basically, 1.25v in bios at high fsb, equal to 1.55v set in bios on my P5K3 Dlx.
O.o. But did you actually just or also compare the volt meter reading with the CMOS Power Managemnet readout? How different are they? I keep telling people to jsut go by that since we know the BIOS overvolts.
ie: my NB chipset CMOS set to 1.47v equals 1.504v as reported by BIOS and hardware monitors, so are you saying the actual volt reading off mobo is even higher?
Just set your cpu voltage as manual. And you will be fine, When oc from 333 to 400mhz youll have auto cpu voltage raise, abit too higher for me, so i set back to 1.3 volt
How come the second core in prime is always a failure unless its stock? Anybody run into that too? I mean everything seems fine on a regular basis but I want to go further but I cant really start when I have an error on the second core.

Yeah, i have that too, dunno whats up with that... ALLWAYS core 2!
how to fix that? it needs so much more vcore than core 1 , even though they are equally loaded... dont get this.... or how to reduce this.
but im very interested if anyone has found some good setting for this.
And i looked at your screen, same as me, rounding was 0.5 , allways that same error, on core 2....... WHYYYY??! :D *screaming like in a movie*
Did you try both VGA ports?
I am having trouble with 9800GX2 performance - only been doing 01 nature but I am taking a huge FPS hit compared to a 790I board. Seems like the PCI-E bandwidth is somehow limited since rasing PCI-E frequencies gives a big boost in FPS.
ANyone has similar problems?
BTW BIOS 0204 is much better for wolfdale FSB clocking compared to the 0401 bios
BIOS 0401 = max stable FSB ~ 555
BIOS 0204 = max stable FSB ~ 587

bios 0401 no go for this. VNB defenetly super hot - don't copy for 24/7

Been able to push my RAM a bit now, its so tricky and so many reboots and recovering bios by turning power off ...
so this i managed to get so far... and this with bios 401

2074mhz , would probably go more the more voltage i throw at it.
this is with PL8, 2.1 to vdimm , 1.71nb modarate twister.
man it diffs so much between this 3 bios'es , 151 just works, nothing special, 204 are better, all dividers are working, 333 strap DONT work at low fsb, when trying to use it at 453 it dont work, and when putting 266 it boots right up, in 401 bios the 1:2 divider works great, but it refuses to post anyone else divider, i find 401 most stable though.
if they put all this 3 bios'es and in 1 and some other fixes it would be great! :)
Hooray for horrible cap placement around the SB. Still, where there's a will there's a way, and I don't intend to throw out a perfectly good waterblock:

Just goy my board. I noticed in express gate OS none of the shutoff, enter os or restart buttons work. I have to turn off the power swicth manually.
Testing now with a USB Mouse, e8400, and Patriot Viper 2 x 1G. Cellshock Blues are on the way too. Anyone notice this?
I have a Raptor 74G SATA drive and an IDE DVD.
