Is my P4 2.4 (SL6WF) MALAY - L321A600 any good for overclocking?
I've booted it up at 295 fsb but it slows down a lot windows.
At 280/290 I can get it stable.
Maybe a PSU issue?
Should I keep my original voltage?
My RAM is Nanya DDR 400, and at OV it's 2,5-2-2-5
Board: P4P800.

yeah the L321 are great oc'ers and the reason you're getting slow downs at 295fsb is probably the same reason i'm getting it at anything above 300fsb. are you using SATA drives? I heard disabling SATA or changing the AGP/PCI speeds can help overcome this problem, but changing the speeds didnt really work on mine and i'm using my SATA ports so i can't disable them.Quote:

if you have an old nvidia card lying around you can toss it in and see if you still get that lagging. If you don't than there is an agp/pci lock issue going on where the agp/pci is raising up too high. Nvidia cards seem to be able to deal with it better than ati cards, but....they are nvidia cards :(
I've got a MSI Geforce 3 Ti2 64 MB.
And no SATA Drives.
I've locked PCI/AGP (33/66)
May I use default Vcore settings?
It doesn't make sense to me that the extreme windows slowness that people are reporting past a certain fsb is due to the cpu. I mean, if the cpu were on the brink of stability at 300 fsb for example, I doubt it would even boot at like 320. The video card theory seems pretty plausible though.

It (slowness) happens even before system boots up, it take ages to get windows fully loaded!
So you're saying its perfect at 300 and goes to crap at 301?
That realy realy sounds like an agp/pci issue. It is raising and you just don't know it i bet.
Clockgen will tell you what they are at.

i have it set to 295fsb, when i'm at anything above that (even 296fsb) and i'm playing a multiplayer game my computer will lag every 30seconds (pretty much constant and i have a wireless PCI network card btw - which makes me believe its a agp/pci issue). if i move the fsb down to 295, it's fine. and that's the way it is up to 302fsb, and even at 302fsb windows acts normally, and surfing webpages i can't notice the lag that i'm getting in my games.

what about prime, memtest, memtest86, and 3dmark...what do they do?
edit-> purebooya... I just noticed you are running your mushkin 3500 lvl2 3:2...that is unacceptalbe to me :D...jump over to the vomd section and get that mem running 5:4 2-2-2-5 like it should be. The p4c800 mod is incredibly easy, won't take you but 30min. to have it completely done I bet.

at 295fsb all those programs will run (i ran prime (x2) 24hrs, next day looped 3dmark for about 12hrs)
but at anything above that prime will fail within 5 seconds after opening 2 primes, but 3dmark will loop for 12hrs, i quit the loop after that and anything above 302 won't run anything
.........was having alot of the slowdown problems over 292fsb and found it was the new 3.8 Ati drivers fault. Installed the 3.7 omega and it seems ok for now. Will try 295 tomorrow.........
would be very nice if it was just a video driver issue...could be fixed up very easily then...anyone care to verify this?
Did you try omega's 3.8's?
btw...not to get too far off track, but what kind of difference do you see performance wise with the omega's v the ati standard drivers? I haven't gotten around to testing them out yet, too busy working on cpu and ram oc'ing...haven't even oc'd my 9800p 128mb yet :(

...that would be realy good news. Sounds like alot of people would be very happy...
.......someone suggested to put the video back to default BEFORE installin new drivers. I am now 5mhz less on the core and mem but no more window lock-ups or video slow down.........also read alot of people are now claiming the 3.8 cats are making there video card run hotter :confused: . Just thought I would pass that on too........
......tried the 3.8 cats and the omega 3.8 and his leaked new driver. I still think all 3 were the reason for my o/c problems......Quote:

Cant really explain what is happening, but when u get to a certain fsb, the pc will slow down and sometimes even windows will error that you have lost foxus with the vid card or something and revert back to 4mb colour :D
This happens for me at 305fsb, at 303 its fine, 304 is kinda slow but bam 305 is the killer. I raide my agp/pci to 36/72 and all is well up to 315 - the stability level of my cpu.
I couldnt do this with SATA RAID but I have an IDE Maxtor drive that I use when going over 305fsb. This allows me to raise the agp/pci and still run the pc fine :thumbsup:
Try a search, maybe someone explained it better than me, but it has be raised numerous times in the Intel and Xtreme Ocing forums :)

I switched to the Cat 3.8's with my watercooled 9700pro and saw no difference in temps. Oc'd with rage3d @410/355....also I seem to be stuck at 277fsb with 2.6c/IS7, 1024xms3500@2.8v.,ddr444. Never tried disabling fastwrites, could my cpu be limiting my fsb? Could a vmod give me a few more fsb? Im loving all the info from this forum and the community that you are...Peace
Sounds like your memory is holding you back, switch to 3:2 and see how high the CPU goes. If it goes higher its the RAM, try changing the timings a bit.
Well, i went back to 3.7 cats after using the 3.8 cats and that fixed the lag problem i was having in games with anything over 295fsb, but it didn't fix the slow down i get after 302fsb
