just figured i'd throw this in here... with bios 0602. for what it's worth, temps on NB are now at 35*C after reseat and adding water.

Thanks for consolidating all this info kup. This will prove a fantastic resource for those just getting these boards.
wow... you guys did a great job here
wish something like this was compiled when i 1st got the board..
wouldve save me the trouble of reading 80+ when i 1st started to read
... and yes i did read all 80 pages at that time
kup - I would suggest advising against
Since windows flashing of BIOS is alot more buggy/dangerous and could result in a "bricked" board. I would suggest posting the steps to using the ALT+F2 method with a thumbdrive, it too will allow you to downgrade, or upgrade accordingly and is alot safer :)Quote:
AsusUpdate that allows downgrading from the 09xx series
Please note, you must use XP 32Bit to perform the flash, as the software fails to work on an x64 OS
AsusUpdate v6
Select 'Options', tick the downgrade box and the flash with bios of choice.
You could leave the steps for the Asusupdate and whatnot, but list it as the Unrecommended way of Flashing/Downgrading your BIOS, and the ALT+F2 as the preferred way of doing so, since alot of "new" users with this board will probably read the consolidation of the original Asus Maximus SE thread.

Good job  If only i had the time i would have set up the old one better.
I was gonna try and older bios but evan with ASUS update version downloaded form here and selecting allow downgrade it will not let me flash back. Anyone else had this problem? and what was the work around?
The EZ Flash utility can't downgrade from bios 0902 onwards. The only way to do it is via the old version of AsusUpdate.
kup, unless the intention is to direct all traffic to this thread, you might include a link to the original Maximus thread so people can work through it if they so desire. With a disclaimer warning of it's length and complexity, of course. ;)
Heh, maybe "While you're torture testing your Maximus Formula motherboard, see if you yourself can endure the torture test that is the Original Maximus Formula thread."
Kup, was just thinking about these settings that you have in the bios. Maybe you could explain what they all do? I mean you know what Vcore and FSB and all that is but, like "CPU GTL Reference" and "Transaction Booster" etc.
Would be really nice of you!
could someone post current utilities and which version of them give acurate temp readings on this board?
will try for 4ghz club with my q6700 and phase with this mobo with ek water all around will post asap waiting on the ek waterblocks.
NysoO, I recommend that you and anyone else interested in explanatinos of the BIOS settings take a look at this review from Anandtech:
Anandtech review of Asus P5E3 (page 4, which is where they begin their BIOS explanation and tweaking guide.)
Bios settings and their functions added via links to Anandtech.
I flashed 902 and still could downgrade back to 802? What error did it give?
On most boards it says that the bios (pre 0902) is no compatible and refuses to flash.
Has anyone seen a quad stable above 470 FSB on this board I am actually fully prime OCCT stable at this point but 1mhz higher I cat pass these tests. Any ideas?
the last time i did a BIOS update with Asus Update my P5K Premium became a paperweight. DONT do it. Even the Asus Tech Support guy i talked to said NEVER do it.
I agree Dos or EZ Flash are much more reliable and stable Bios flashing tools.
I just updated to Bios 903 as its now properly released.
I see it has the 1/2 multis but selecting them on my QX9650 just boots at the lower whole number, yet the bios remains saying the half.. i.e. if i set 10.5 it boots as 10 but the bios still says 10.5
Does anyone know if its the bios not working or does the QX9650 not support 1/2 multies?
Thanks.
not a 100% on this but the .5 multi's are for the new Penryns
