I think I will stay with 5.10.13 and 6.1.0 because I have not had issues with either one.
I'm running 6.1.0 as well and no problems since I updated from the buggy 5.10.20.
5.10.24 beta now available
Windows
Windows x64
Ack, I've been slacking while they're back to another cycle of updates :)
where is the download for the 6.1.0
I couldn't take that 5.10.20 disconnecting from the host crap. Installed 6.1.0 on the e4300.
oh ok SB sorry!
edit: wow that was a bit of a pain!! I stopped boinc from running like I always do when installing a new version. then I run the install program of the new version. everything looked good untill it opened up to run.
vista said it wouldn't respond (like immediately) so I get it all closed out and try to repair it. still same thing. so I go and reinstall 5.10.20 and it goes right on but gives me errors. :(
so I restart (again) and still does the same thing. I downloaded the 5.10.24 and installed it, WOOT it took right off and back up and running! I hope it works good. I lost my copy of 5.10.13 so I need to look around for it.
im using 5.10.20 and it gave me a little boost in average on my comp.
even the benchmarks went little up. dont tried 5.10.24 though...
in few days i plan switching from ultimate32 to bussines64.
I was reading some thread about good PPD on ultimate64, but i have access only to bussiness64.
Shame is, my parrents got moved to another flat till they finish the house, so my home server+gateway+other folders are down till... dunno, i have to find place for them.
Using 5.10.20 now without any problems. The icon looks like a shield with two spears behind it, people keep asking if it's an online game or something :D
Grabbed 5.10.24 on Friday night and since then I have been completely stable with no drop outs (compared to the 5.10.20 dropping out every 24 hours)...I have left the machine running this week while I am working out of State again...so will see how it performs without me on it :)
That's when you say "yes, of course it's an online game! it's a multiplayer game where the object is to destroy viruses and other things harming the world with people from across the globe! best part is, you get to look at pretty pictures and do nothing! it goes on it's own!"

Checking it out now :)
Early observations:

10/20/2007 10:32:43 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 3275.45MB
10/20/2007 10:32:43 AM||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB
10/20/2007 10:32:43 AM||Running CPU benchmarks
10/20/2007 10:32:43 AM||Suspending network activity - user is active
10/20/2007 10:33:14 AM||Benchmark results:
10/20/2007 10:33:14 AM|| Number of CPUs: 4
10/20/2007 10:33:14 AM|| 3570 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
10/20/2007 10:33:14 AM|| 7916 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
That is about 200 integer MIPS higher, without changing any settings. Is that normal for BOINC releases to change performance? or did it read wrong the last time it said 7700 something.
5.10.27 beta is now available

Saw that last night, but I've been too busy with schoolwork lately to do much on the forums, without it stealing my time. :(
5.10.28 beta now available
Windows x32
Windows x64
Update: 5.10.28 is now the recommended version for Windows (x32 & x64), replacing 5.10.20
I've been running 5.10.28 on two highly overclocked machines for about 24 hours now. One has XP Pro the other Vista Ultimate. No hangs, disconnects, or any other problems so far.
I still have 5.10.13 on a couple of other computers. I'll switch them over to 5.10.28 in another day or so if the two with it already on them continue to run trouble free.
5.10.20 was nothing but trouble for me. I don't know why it was ever "the recommended version"....
I'm sorta wondering the same thing.
And also, what if whetstone goes down, and dhrystone goes up with different versions. Which compromise is better?
same clock, board, everything, etc., except BOINC version
BOINC 5.10.13, 3139 whet, 6940 dhry
BOINC 5.10.20, 3129 whet, 7150 dhry
BOINC 5.10.28, 3142 whet, 6917 dhry
Any suggestions? Thanks
I cant really answer your question but at the same time I can tell you that every time you run a new benchmark it will change and be different on both.. That is common with boinc. :shrug:
Also boinc re-benchmarks like every 10 days or something like that.
Those results are so close that I don't think you'll see any real difference in point production. Also, as someone indicated, you will get different results each time you run the CPU benchmark.
Whetstone measures floating point operations. Dhrystone measures integer, or general processor performance. The name Dhrystone is a play on words. It has no floating point operations, hence it is "dry".
I've been running 5.10.28 on a variety of machines for 3 or 4 days now and haven't had any problems with it.
