Yea, I was thinking about remounting it when I was taking the pictures but it didn't really seem to budge when I tried to move the hsf around. I will probably remount it in the future though.Quote:

Yes, I went from 58-59C to 53-54C after I switched from the plastic washer to my off centered dime :P. Originally I stated 52-54C, but it eventually stabilized in the 53-54C range. That is not accounting for the ambient temp though because the original load temps were taken yesterday while the new temps with the dime were taken today. There doesn't really seem to be much change in ambient temp to me though(I don't have a thermometer to measure for that in my room, but it has been in the 60s F for both days outside.).Quote:

Before I added the dime, the temps under load were 38-39 degrees celcius while running orthos. Right now at the 54 minute mark with the dime installed I am now flipping between 28 and 30 degrees celcius.
I don't know if thats "proof" enough for anyone else, but it is for me.

So I found that one of my TRUE's were very very loose also. But instead of using a penny or cardboard, I used one of those peices of round foam that u sometimes get when u buy a spool of blank dvd's.
I found that it worked really well.
I just tried this mod. I lapped the hsf (cpu already lapped) and mounted it with a piece of cardboard. Running at 3,4ghz with 1,28v (load) I was at 63c load.
Decieded to try with a coin instead. Now I'm at 58c with the same clock. So the penny worked better for me...
Just got mine today, actually. Flipped the bracket over, blammo, no washer. So, i hack a piece out of the box it (and my HRs) were shipped in, slap it under the X, and voila. My Ultra barely moves. Seeing a 20-27c difference from my stock 'Typhoon, using a yate clone for the cpu.

Granted, when I peeled the typhoon away, it seemed like the thermal paste (AS5) had dried the hell out. The system had been offline since it started giving me garbled readings in CoreTemp, and AISuite showing load temps of 100+C!
Then again, this was also with inlet air at near 40c! (ambient in case, it's HOT here)
I managed to put a dime under mine and it did still move, but quite a bit less. In fact, if I attempted to move the heatsink, it would move the board. :D Temps seem to be a few C less as well, tho I won't know for sure until the MX-1's all settled.

hah, don't try it drunk. :D My dime's still sittin' pretty, but I think a bigger plastic washer w/ a hole in the center would be a bit better.
Has anybody contacted Thermalright to make them aware of this problem?
Guys is it just me or is mouting the TRUE with the "coin" under the "nipple" trick really a pain? I almost struggled with mine for 25 minutes before I could get the bolts to connect to the end... it was mightly damn tough. Or i am doing something completely wrong?

start with 400 paper to intially get the finish down to copper and then go to 600 to really give it a smooth surface...you can buy that kind of paper in home depot if you live in the USA.Quote:

I just fineshed lapping My TR U120X which was so convex if you hold a sciors blade on top of it, it'll will barly touch 5mm or so!!
Ihad to start wit 150 grit sanding paper just to see a flat enough bottom
