Definitely not saying thats whats done but it could be something as simple.
its simple as this, unless both companies start denying RMA's from over clocking neither really will fully enforce that rule. If intel really has a way of seeing if you OC'd at all, and denied the RMA every time if it was over clocked, we would see the biggest shift in the market towards AMD, and they know this. But who knows maybe they will come to come mutual agreement on how to handle these things.
LOL, what THEY SAY is safe yes... but what if it goes WAAAAY further? My friends E4300 stock 1.8 GHz @ 3.3-3.4 GHz??? Is that still in the "safe" limits? And who's to say what's safe or not? How many Intel CPUs have been fried? I have never seen one.
I would have no guilt RMA-ing my C2D if it were to ever fry considering I put less than Intel's stated limit of 1.3525v through it for my overclock.

I don't think its an actual black box. Its more like a method for determining if a CPU was overclocked or not. Perhaps by running current through it and looking at the electron patterns/leaks...
One thing that we need to know is, does the user get their chip back, or does intel keep them?
probably costs them more to hire people to check whether they've been overclocked than just to give RMA's to the very small number of people who actually fry their processors by overclocking.
the only problem i could see is that they should define wht exactly voids ur warranty.
cause its pretty normal that a 1800mhz CPU is running at 1801mhz or something like that. Does that 1mhz more also qualify as overclocking and thus voiding ur warranty.
or for them motherboards that have the bios option to overclock 10% etc.
and seeing that its usually the voltage that kills the CPU id say they should change it that u void ur warranty if u up the vcore. But then again u also got motherboards that overvolt.
