21% here in Belgium....And hardware itself is also more expensive then in the surrounding countries...
You lucky Europeans, with your high taxes you get a lot of social freebies to benefit from.
Whereas us Americans get to "choose" what to do with our cash..like blow it away on computer parts, instead of things like free higher education, haha.
It's not anymore turbox997....i pay 22,1%from my wage for health insurance and still don't have services for free...so i need to take extra insurance...more and more :banana::banana::banana: here. So not everything is bright and shinny.
Doesnt this make the price perf war lean in AMD's favor?According to toms charts its a huge jump forward.
Insane! They can't be making money at those prices...

Are you thinking about the die shots when you say that?
Cause the 65nm Barcelona die size is almost as small as 90nm Single core k8;)
So if were thinking die size Amd should be able to make money on them, althought by not much. I also think the 65nm process is using 300mm wafers:toast:

You get the point :stick: , higher taxes equate to the socialism in most Western European countries. Don't get me wrong though, I don't mind the US's capitalism, more spending power, etc... was just trying to make our friend's not feel as bad since our prices are going to be lower, =P....since I have sympathy for their higher prices.
Anyways, back on subject. I still think, as it stands(since we don't have too much info on Barcelona's real performance yet), I'd rather wait for Intel's price cuts and get a Quad core for $266, pay a little more, get a little more.
I also believe that Intel has a good chance of competing against Barcelona with Penryn, even if the Barcelona is better per clock, raw clock speed of Penryn will hold its own(as someone else as speculate before on here). So I still won't get a new platform from niether.
But in all honesty, I'm waiting for DDR3 support to come out and mature for both platforms, probably take another 2 years from now.
QFT, I believe straight up manufacturing processes may only run them around $30 per chip, speaking from low end to high end(disregarding extra caches).
I took out the need to worry about the R&D money they spent paying engineers to make their chips. And of course they also have a lot of bills to pay:electricity, technicians, operators, etc....but we can take out the R&D factor by now because I'm pretty darn sure the money responsible for the development of the K8 has been paid off by now... anything else they accrue is for their future investments(such as the new fab labs and current engineers who are developing the K10)
because ultimately material wise, they are making a profit on the product, unlike say Sony's PS3 in which they sell the unit at a loss when speaking of pure material costs.(all debts and balance sheets aside)
Anyone know if there will be corresponding 2nd gen Opteron cuts, or are the workstation/server guys still going to have to pay through the nose?
France...:slapass:
This looks very good. Just bought a Brisbane for $85. Haven't seen the max OC yet. 2.4 easy.

I think those single cores should take a further whacking.
Those prices are going to be so tempting...and yet with an AMD Athlon X4 1900 is calling at me from a distance X(
