P5B Deluxe is TECHNICALLY the fastest 965P board out, BUT for it to even start to compete it needs vmch, vcore, vdimm and vdroop mods.
What about the new P35 and X38 chipsets?
Granted, the X38 chipset mobos haven't really arrived,
thus there can't be much to say about them.
But lots of P35 mobos are readily available and more are coming.
Is P35 the mobo to get, for single-card solutions, right now?
Or are P965/975X mobos still the ones to get,
depending on the multi of the CPU you're getting?
I find it very hard to keep up with all this stuff,
so any help would be great as I'll be upgrading
to C2D soon (within weeks actually).

From what I can make out, P35 is superior to 965P in all ways except thermally. How big is the thermal difference anyway (watts)?
How many extra watts will a P35 based (say P5K Deluxe) system draw compared to a 965P (say P5B Deluxe)?
Would the thermal difference ever justify going for the older 965P?
What about in say a HTPC?
Myself, I probably wouldn't go for the extreme OC anyway as I'm quite sensitive to noise.
The P35 chipset itself is not hotter than P965. Only Asus managed somehow to the consumption numbers of it's P35 boards by about 30W.

Here it seems ASUS P5K is only 0-3W worse than MSI and Gigabyte P35. At load Gigabyte's actually worse. In all cases the P35 boards are 10-20W worse than DFI Infinity P965.

P35 is power hungry, it has been since it came out. You can tell by the [even] craz[ier]y heatpipe designs board manufacturers are now implementing.
I doubt it is. A chipset is a chipset, the only thing that will affect its TDP is voltage. It may indeed run warmer if ASUS' chipset cooling solution sucks (per normal).
I meant "hotter" as in "higher power consumption". Both TechReport and X-bit labs agree the ASUS P35 is 20-40W "hotter" than Gigabyte and Abit.

Those numbers are all for the P5K-Deluxe. But what about the Premium / Blitz boards? Do they run "cooler" (power consumption on level with Gigabyte and Abit)?
ASUS P35 seems to be the boards with the least vdroop issues. But does vdroop really matter all that much, I probably wouldn't go for those last 100 Mhz anyway, as those last 100 Mhz usually generate the most heat and I hate noise. Or does it affect stability even at lower overclocks?
