I didn't mean it was G70. Just meant that it was similar in performance to the 7900GTX on the same PCB (which it apparently is not) and DX10.

But you have to remember these are Direct X 10 parts, and without Direct X 10 games, we don't have a true judge on performace. They do seem to handle Direct X 9 very effectly though:D Thanks for the Info. What load temps were you seeing btw? And can we controll the RPM's on the fan?

Didnt people say that the G80 cards only emulated dx9? If that information is correct then no wonder the x1950xtx can come so close, now imagine dx10 games which wont require any emulation and no loss in performance. I think we should really give the drivers a chance to mature as well because you can imagine nvidia scrambling to get the dx9 emulation as efficient as possible. Also with all the other new features these cards have implemented in the hardware, we will probably be seeing some massive driver-related performance improvements. Get ready for some real action from these cards in the next couple of months! Woot!!!!

Could you Give me the part Numbers of these chips in the attached picture?

Cant even get them here yet, but i would like to research the volt mod a little first anyway:toast:

It's the same now.. Were you guys actually expecting them to do the same trick with these as they did with the GF7900's?? They lost way too much money from producing the 2 different cards with the same chips, pipes and all, because people didn't need the 7900GTX to get the high performance :)

Both 7900GTX and 7900GT came with all pipelines, probably because the yields were so good. And thanks to the small size of the die, you get a whole lot more chips per wafer. (that's good).

Well it kind of makes sense to really make your best GPU truly better if you are a graphics card manufacturer.

yes and no. if you're being CPU limited (ie video card rendering scene so fast, that regardless if you have a faster video card, you have same fps), chances are you're not using high enough resolution/game quality/AA/AF.

I think for G80 1600x1200 is like minimum. ;)

when i saw two POV 8800GTS reaching 696 core & 1980 mem freqs...
(according to atitool ...)
and another thing...
as the firingsquad review reports, the GTS only needs 620/ 1800 to reach the stock 8800GTX performance in games... (with the x6800 as basic test cpu)
so unless next batches of GTS are somehow limited o/cwise...
i can foresee the GTS becoming a bestseller...

there is no different between GTS and GTX, they use same core
that is why both my GTS and GTX max out at 665 .... exactly the same spot lol

is it possible to reomve the hsf mechanism, clean up the goop on the gpu core ihs also removing the thermal pads on the mem and ramdac chip and reseat the hsf mechanism with artic ceramique as the thermal compound and still make good contack with all the chips for better cooling????
