Theres useful restriction which delivers maximum cooling performance right at the spot where its needed (Cathar's G series of waterblocks), and pointless restriction, with this waterblock is a case in point. As Maxxxracer points out, a wide channel, gently curving around the block will do nicely for keeping the relatively low power RAM chips at a good operating temperature while ensuring minimum possible restriction.

Yup, its gets to the stage were you can just look at a design and write it off. This isnt a new design as such, theres no new cooling method being employed. It's old tech reworked to fit 8800 series. Old car, new wheels if you like. We know the old car's rubbish (long term reliability issues in the case of this block/"car" for sure, performance is unknown but based on past knowledge predicted to be mediocre) and something better with the new wheels will be along shortly I'm sure :D
quite nice block, millwork is quite standard looking for a nc mill. the thing i dont like is that the "water channel" inside the block looks kinda to simple but i gues that the mem chip doesnt need more cooling than that.
Nice piece of work. It looks heavy and inconsistent, many great products looked awful at first, give it time for benchmarks and reviews.

1) complete cooling solution for video card.
2) Flow is relative to pressure.
3) Corrisive- simply anodize inside and out you choose the anodize color .Use a good fluid such as Koolance.
4) Promotes the use of less airflow threw the case= fewer fans. 1 of the main points of watercooling in the first place. :fact:
Relax. There will be better alternatives to this waterblock in the near future. Hope no one is dumb enough to get this.
I am I want to try it . A little anodizing inside and out will take care of the corrission problem . If I cann''t turn the copper water block 90 degrees . i will simply machine channels to make it better at dissipating heat. . Checkerboard design . Since I have a machine shop not a problem . I like the design very much. Anodize black turn copper heat sink 90 degrees. Or machine . Should be a nice little water block.Quote:

To be honest I hope that this is a test/sample block. As for being restrictive, it's not, look at the area of the channels, you fit a barb in those ports and I bet you the area through the barb will be the same.
The only things I can see wrong with it are....
A, I hate the use of different materials, it looks cheap and lacks a certain quality.
And..
B, it doesn't make the water work.! You need to break the water surface film up... big style, that way it'll dissipate the heat from the block better and more efficiently.!

Ya I seen the same problems with heat dissipation. Since air flow and water flow memic each other. Simply dimple the areas were you want to cause tribulance in the water flow.Quote:

you will need at least 12 ramsinks for just the ram. plus you have to cool the secondary chip somehow. plus you have to cool the fets.
im thinking this could be a card that needs fullcover solutions for best performance.
but:
make it all copper
widen the channels
change direction of those fins
drill out the middle of the solid areas to reduce weight
make top out of derlin to reduce cost and weight
but i think one thing we can all agree on is that that milled aluminum backplate is freaking piiimp
EDIT: btw, im tired of mods being treated like gods, and some starting to act it. treat them with respect, but get your head out of their asses. ive noticed lately that people are getting some real critisism when they disagree with a mod and their oppinion. and some mods go as far as deleting their post. even though it is in no way breaking forum rules.
with the influx of noobs, and the recent change in some mods behaviour, it seems XS might start to mimic [H]
of course there is still most mods here who are very level headed and are absolutely great.
Ack...after seeing the other picture with the stock cooler off...that's a lot they seriously intend to cool...so pretty much it's either full cover blocks, or a "kit" (pst, hint hint) with the main block, ramsinks, longer ramsinks (4?), and a small heatsink for the extra chip...
You don't need ramsinks. Just place a 120mm fan near the card.

Ramsinks and airflow are already overkill. I'm been running my card for over a year without any sinks on it. The chips are cool when gaming. Just point a 120mm fan at it and that's enough.Quote:
