Is anybody reading any of the links or posts in this topic? The fakes don't even come close to a 9W DDC as far as performance, so that throws your "if it performs better" bravado right out the window. :shakes:

You know what?
I'm just going to say you win for the sake of not dragging this thread on for 5 pages dissecting on "ifs" about the build of a pump we dont have to play with physically.
The pump could be getting starved, it might be spinning the motor slower, maybe the impeller is more efficient at one speed than another, what will changing the top do? Does the impeller touch the top? Where did the numbers (2.5 ml h20, 330L/h) come from?
I want one just to torture it.
The numbers come from a PDF released by Laing in the very first post by Marci. Someone had to of tested them. If it was Laing, then you can look at it one of two ways. 1. They're lying about the numbers to force you to buy the DDC or 2. The numbers are real and it posed a real problem to Laing's name. Honestly, if they were better, do you think that whoever made these pumps would try to pass them off as DDC's, I personally would have a different housing and try to bury Laing as a PC water cooling pump manu if my pump was better than theirs.
I'm under the impression that some of these did indeed make it to some under handed retailers that were successful in selling them as true DDC's. Some of the customers got ticked off and questioned Laing about it and that's when the discovery was made. IIRC, Laing got the supply line of the fakes shut down, so that (to me) means that they had to have had a pretty strong case that these fake pumps are indeed weaker and could have damaged Laing's reputation.
...and I haven't really even touched upon copyright infringement yet.
The seller that was hawking these on ebay was claiming that they were "old model laing" pumps. That is just plain dishonest.
If they made a similar pump and advertised it as their own that is fine by me. This is pretty much hardcore bottom feeding action right here. I would NEVER buy a product falsely sold under another manufacturers name, regardless of performance.
If you would, to each his own I guess.
