im n00b :( wat are those switches for? :)

"p" is just the program command

b - Program Boot Block
n - Program NVRAM
c - Destroy System CMOS

/n - don't check ROM ID

No, they aren't necessary. But I use all the switches as a matter of habit.

These switches are not just for the P5B. Asus users have been using them for years.

Grinch in your second pic with CPU settings Vanderpool tech is greyed out & disabled. Mine is grey as wel but stays enabled regardless settings ive tried in cpu section. How do i disable it??

honestly...I think all I did was reset cmos...then started making all my changes...

Vanderpool settings can only be changed on a cold boot.

i know this has been answered before, but can't find it....

Is there a reason NOT to use the Asus Bios EZ-Flash utility in BIOS (by pressing <alt-f2> ) ? everyone so far has recommended the windows version or Afudos.

Asus update within windows works great for me, never had one issue.

First way.

thank god i thought i needed a new power supply

well...I tried 711, and already I've had two reboots! I cleared CMOS just in case, and after about 5 minutes or so of messing around the computer, it reboots on its own.

Also, when booting up, it took forever to detect the RAID drives...it kept saying
ACHI 0....yada yada
ACHI 1....yada yada
and then it would continue....

thirdly, Superpi decreases slightly on this run...
with 711, 1M = 18.450
with 614, 1M = 18.025

so I went back to 614....no problems so far, and steady. I think I will wait for the next BIOS upgrade and see how it does. :fact:

disable automatic restart in control panel->system, in one of those hardware or advanced tabs. You probably bluescreened.
