Actually, I were at AnandTech Forums @ http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...&enterthread=y and read about this one ~8 hours before I read it here. I even started a thread @ FM about it but the kids aren't interested.

Alchemist = Mr Vain though, so my thanx stands.

While synthetic memory read bandwidth tests shows a 20-25% boost, real world is more like 0-3% ( but it actually makes a difference ).

Dual Super PI 32M is a memory intensive app.

Yeah, a $60 mobo with DDR+DDRII MEM support and AGP+PCIe VC support and 50K in '01. Who can complain?! :woot:

FSB 400 sounds so tempting I don't know if I can resist getting a P965/I975X mobo. I can't afford 2x1GB DDRII mem right now but before this year ends I'll get some new stuff.

newegg had some open box ones for $27.00 shipped, I ordered 2, just to hopefully insure atleast one works.
got the $172.00 e6300 from Hardwarerebuild,and have lots of different ddr ram to use, sold my opty 165 motherboard and cpu for $50.00 more than this cpu/motherboard cost, so even at stock i will be happy.
all the info here will help alot, i will def do some volt mods, that is if both boards work from the get go.

give me 3 or 4 days and i will be posting my clocks with my 7900GTO PCI-E, or 6800GT AGP.
does the 4x pci-E limit the card any???
also i have a 1gb stick of pc2700 kingston that does pc3200 easily, but only the one 1gb stick, how badly does single channel hurt performance, will probably just use my 2 x 512mb BH-5 Hyper-x good for 220 cas2,2,2,5,1T on other boards at 2.7V.
any more advice would be apprciated.
will be useing a antec true 550watt eps so power should no be a problem.

I'll probably get the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 ( Intel ICH8R ) and while this board does support Kentsfield I don't really care. A $1000 4 core Kentsfield is far too expensive for my needs, I must fill the 2 cores first.

PCie x4 cuts performance by 0-10% depending on app/test, usually the hit is under 5%. Vertex shader takes a larger hit than pixel shader.
HDR takes a hit. The hit is reasonable.

That's with a 7900GTX OC.

This mobo is a love-hate affair, but it's a cool mobo.
I'd suggest; definitely use dual-channel. I've tested single-channel and depending on app it's ~2-10% slower than dual-channel.
Multitasking benefits from dual-channel ( needs mem bandwidth ).

Yes I've tried 2x512MB BH-5 mem on the mobo, and it rocks but a Vdimm mod is needed. This mobo eats Vdimm, 2.7V stable on an other mobo means 2.8-2.9V stable on this one.

Expect an OC of FSB 285-295 ( Orthos stable ) out of the box. Well even better, expect nothing then You won't be disappointed with the board.

a friend had his P-D 805 running at 166fsb (3.33GHz) for some time without any problems, but switched to a core 2 last week.

I have done the highest cpu pin volt mod for the D 805 and got it to
4000Mhz.
I can boot into Windows at 4080Mhz but its not stable.
Thats 50% Overclock with this mobo happy happy!

I have been running it for months now at 3960Mhz and 3900Mhz without a single problem.
Get plenty of air to the VRM'S.
I'm using cpu water cooling.

I could run my D 805 on stock voltage up to 3360Mhz stable and boot into windows at 3420Mhz.

I accidently went into this thread and was amazed by the goldmine I found here!

I am running a P-D 805 and the vmid for it looks promising!

I'm using Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G-RH motherboard. I am able to change vcore in this board(unlike your board), up to 1.6v. The problem is that this motherboard has a serious vdroop and therefore my real vcore is only about 1.4-1.52when setting 1.6v.

If I use this volt mod for the processor at max voltage(1.6v) will I still be getting this vdroop? or will I infact get 1.6v or very close to it?

I think that's what preventing me from getting 4Ghz stable with the 805. I'm currently able to boot with 190FSB stable, and use Easytunes/Clockgen to get the extra 10FSB to achieve 4GHz(which isn't very stable either). Can't directly boot with 200FSB though.

I would truly appreciate your help guys!

EDIT: temps are great btw...48c full prime95 load, 27c idle.
