Conroe retail chips now exceed the ES chips, its just that Intel had to dump stepping 5 right before launch. Which meant all the small refinements went too. Now week 27 and 28 chips are at least on par with the stepping 5's that gave everyone weak knees.

As for running open air, its not done for temp's, just ease of set up, a stacker 830 would probably get you very close results if you were willing to put up with a little noise.

Could you guys check CPU-Z's reading for cores 2 and 3 please, as on mine if I adjust the multi above stock only cores 0 and core 1 run at that multi while cores 2 and core 3 run at stock multi.

Your sarcasm is noted and I think you are better than that. The "E-Penile implant" comment was not directed at anyone in particular, which makes me wonder why you are so defensive about it.

Did I notice it was Xtreme Systems? Ummm of course I did. I signed up here for the fact of hardware news, tips and just general conversation. It wasn't a lecture about this site, it was a comment on the integrity of it. Before I signed up I read many posts and determined that there are some very knowledgable people here.

As for getting a clue? Well that's a matter of opinion. To you I don't have a clue, but to me...it doesn't matter what you think.

Now this is the type of response I should have gotten a while ago.

Yes, it seems that retail chips have finally caught up with "ES" chips. But how long did that take? Almost 2 months IIRC.

As for open air: To say it's not done for temps can be argued. I'm sure the temps are a bit lower out of a case and therefore a higher OC. I do agree that those who test new boards and chips that it would be an easier setup and not so much hassle. But the thing is, most people don't run thier systems like that and get thier hopes up for something they won't achieve. This happens with all reviewers, not just this site.

The stacker 830 is one sweet case bro, I'll give you that. But waaaay too expensive! $240-250 for a case? No thanks.

Only with the uninformed huh? Well let's think about this logically for a moment there einstien. Open air, heat dissapates out into the open, hence "open air". In a case heat will gather inside. So therefore being higher temps = lower OC. Sure there are exceptions, phase, water or a massive amount of fans. But overall, its giving the chips optimal conditions when those conditions are not prevelant with the average user.

I'm no more a "thread crapper" than any of you who have responded to me in a sarcastic or hostile manner.

So, if ES chips are so godly why does my X6800 L623A & L624A clk.

Let me point out that while it took a month or two, that was primarily because Intel had a "batch" of lower clocking chips to clear out. Those are gone. Newer retails clock well and many of them at low volts to boot. Since Kentsfield is just two cores bolted together, it's very reasonable to expect them to clock well. Have a look at how the B0's vs the B1's clock. B2's are equivalent to retail in majority (with exceptions), so looking at B1 scores and temps is a good idea of where retail (with a bit of luck) is likely to land.

As for the crud - drop it. Everyone makes a lame comment - even me. Sooner we get back to the thread and the fun the better. Besides Coolaler has more to show I'm sure :)
