Do you see the blue ASUS logo light up inside? If so, try checking the power switch plug, the one connected at the bottom right hand side. The Reset and Power pins are so close to each other that I didn't plug the Power correctly which caused my system not to boot but the LED light was on.......so check that up. should be: .._.. / Space in between the Reset and Power pins.

Will go check that now. I took my time on that and even used that little removable piece they give you. Yes the Asus logo lights up blue and then red when turned on. Once turned on I can hear the harddrive is on, the fans kick in, power is getting to everything...just no POST and no screen of any kind.


EDIT: Checked and everything is fine with that. The connections are where they should be. I even took them off that white removable piece and connected them straight to the motherboard and still made no difference.

My biggest wonder right now is why wouldn't I be getting beeps if it was a RAM issue? Does it not beep when the RAM is there but not compadible? I took the RAM out and booted and immediately got beeps to signify a RAM issue. I would have expected it to do the same if the RAM was to high of a voltage but maybe not. If all it is doing is sensing it the RAM is there and inserted properly then it makes sense, but I'm not sure.

Yea, I'm 99% sure it's the memory that's causing that. I *think* the new BIOS (0507) fixes it. It's been a problem on the Gigabyte boards as well.

Yea I knew about the Gigabyte boards...that was one of the reasons I went with this one! :rolleyes:

I just can't seem to win.

Anyone have got blue screen of death when installing 32-bit windows? What says that unable to install windows because it would harm computer. Micron Controller has set to IDE ofc. So this is settled with bios update? I have bios version 0302.

Just put your stick in the freezer for a few minutes. Then pop it in and boot. Change vdimm in the bios and you're off.

just a little update I switched back to 0507 bios and changed memory to 1:1 as was suggested and happily clocked up to 400fsb (and in all likelyhood beyond) where 370+ I had problems before.

right around 400fsb my x1900xt is not happy but I can clearly see the system booting due to my peripherals (my programmable keyboard for one thing).

I unplugged the psu and let the power drain then plugged it back in and hit the powre and managed to get the x1900xt working. On reboot it didn't work again.

PCI-e was set to 100

I've heard this before but it doesn't always work from what I hear. Plus I think you got to be careful how long you leave it in there. When you take it out you can feel the condensation on the RAM...I'm sure my motherboard (if not already dead) will love that.

couple of questions if I may.

Just got a retail E6600 and running 502 bios. At all stock settings with fsb
running 1:1 i can get to 350fsb run 2 prime loops for an hr and all seems fine.
After that not even 351 will get into windows and reboot as soon as I see the windows splash screen.
So I think maybe just a little more vcore...1.35 no, 1.375 no, 1.4 no
ok that is not it, memory 1.9, 2.0, 2.1 nope

what is now holding me back from getting any more out of this thing. since it will do 350fsb stable is 351 toooo much to ask LOL

I have read on here about vdroop...how accurate is the asus probe in windows on voltage? stock I see 1.28...1.4 I see 1.3 is it really that bad?

thanks for any help and or ideas I just ain't smart enough to make any since of this.

Lots of people report problems at 350-399. Try going straight to 400 if you dare.

I have been able to get into Windows at 350 on the 507 bios without a problem myself. However stability is another matter...

i could do 400 just by raising NB and end fsb into "purple" (1 step) and get to windows... but large FFT were not stable, so i'm waiting for a bios that is doing ok with both ram and max multi choosing ^^


ps : dunno why but i think weird fsb, not multiple of 16,33 seems to be bad for well dunno why ^^

Warning on CMOS clear.

My first P5BD was totally out of order. It said, "Chassis intruded!" Actually, Chassis detection jumper was in right position. With this message, you cannot enter BIOS screen, and have nothing to do. I could not but change my MB.

Today, I saw this message again on the newly arrived MB in testing my rig. But, after CMOS clear, fortunately, it returned the normal state.

1. Do not mistake two jumpers.(they are really close)
2. Do CMOS clearing when power is totally out.

CMOS clear and Chassis open detection jumper are really near. I think some one would experience the same problem as mine.

So there isnt any other solution? When i sent email to Asus they said, that
2GNR would work with Asus P5b Deluxe good.

So there's any other way to fix issue with black screen of death?

As well, I have an update on my system:

• Processor: e6400, Allendale
• Bios Revision: 0507
• Memory: Patriot 2x1GB, 4-4-4-12 rated; PDC22G6400LLK
• vCore: 1.385
• vFSB: 1.300
• vNB: 1.250
• vMem: 2.100
• Configured FSB: 400
• Configured Ratio: 8
• Configured Memory Timings: 4-4-4-12
• C1E and SpeedStep off, Locked PCI Express Frequency locked at 101, PCI Sync Mode at 33.33.

I swapped memory to a pair of Patriot sticks I was able to grab and had some better results with them. As well, I was able to get fully prime stable (12hr blend and 10hr small ffts) at 1.385v. Using CoreTemp, idle temperatures are around 43C and under load around 53-56C.

I might try and go higher, or lower the multiplier and up the FSB, but that is the absolute minimum vCore for me to get stable at 8x400, and I feel apprehensive about upping my vCore above 1.400v.

Corsair 2X512Mb of 6400C4 (rated for 2.1v)
Gigabyte 7600GT
Areca 1210 8X PCIe Raid card
Two Seagate 7200.10 drives (320G per)...hooked to the Areca card.
Standard DVD writer (NEC)

Highest attainable FSB: 460, multi: 7 (6 hours of prime)
Vcore: 1.485v
Vdimm: 2.3v
MCH: 1.5v
Memory divider: 1:1
Chipset memory in: SPD

temps are a little high for my liking...i think asus software is interpolating the diode incorrectly...during prime it slowly flutuates between 63-67C

STILL, an excellent board...i am liking the Pro...just in the initial stages of seeing what i can get out of it with an E6700

I just want to update everyone. If your having the issues I listed earlier it is safe to say it is the RAM. I am extremely happy and thanks for everyone's help.

I went to best buy tonight and grabbed a 1GB stick of generic kingston DDR2 4200 RAM and put it in to see if it worked and it did! :woot:

The RAM is rated at 1.8V so thats the main reason I bought it because I figured that would be the most safe proof RAM to boot on the board. I'm still not conviniced that it's JUST a voltage thing as others with 2.0V RAM can get there system to boot. Either some people are lucky or it is something more then that.

Anyway I'm going to flash the BIOS and see if that solves the problem. If it does not I'll raise the volts after flashing and see if that works. If it still doesn't work then I guess I got a bad stick of RAM. As of right now though I would have to say that the PQI Turbo DDR2 6400 RAM does not work out of the box on this board with the current BIOS being shipped.

Thats not to say the RAM is bad as it seems to have good performance numbers and (at least when I bought it) an unbeatable price.

Best thing about this all is I will be bringing the RAM back to Best Buiy even if it does work as they told me it is returnable with a reciept either way. Awesome! :toast:


Edit: I'd also like to add to this support thread for the P5B deluxe that the cold booting issue or whatever you want to refer to it as is something I am experiencing. The board is COMPLETELY stock. No hard mods or overclocking. It does it almost every time. If anyone is not having this issue I'd love to find a fix for it.

I just wanted to say that the P5B is a very difficult board to play with, but I think it is possible to get 450+ FSB for everyone. I managed it with everything default, memory 1:1 (2.1V) and 507 bios (6400 retail, multiplier 7x). I also had no problems to run at FSB 475 (12 hours dual prime stable)

BUT!! this is a single exact configuration that works after maybe 100 failed attempts and bios flashess - changing memory timings and no post, changing fsb under 410 and no post, also after bios reset I can´t reply this settings all at once, I have to adjust bios several times

My point is this should be possible for everyone, you just have to find the right combination and don´t give up. Sometimes it is a crazy setting, that works.

several people have reported setting Configured Ratio to either 7 or 8.
this is the core speed is it not...so that might be a good test but one of
the things I noticed was someone last week or 2 was setting his down and
sure he hit like 550 fsb and screenies and all that and people were saying
wow.. his pimes and things were slower than a std chip running at 390-400.
So is this just a test of system stability and the wow on fsb and times was
that he could run that fast and NOT that it was something you would want to
do all the time.


PCI Express Frequency some are locked at 101 and others are locking at
100.. I thought 100 was the correct setting.....any comments

i've run the PCIe all the way up to 120 MHz with a 7600GT and 8X Areca Raid card...worked fine while running 450 FSB

I have heard several people reporting that the 0507 bios provides a huge jump in FSB overclocking? Anandtech got up to 512FSB or something?

Hmm, if MSI doesn't get a new bios soon I am jumping ship!

Check this out -> OCForum : P5B Deluxe: 550FSB no mods .. oh yeah, thats on air too.

Edit : He made up to 570 fsb !

0507 allows fsb to go very high because you can set your cpu to lower multi with this one ^^
