It probably means you need to review all bios settings one by one and do a process of elimination, then move on to increasing voltage, sparingly, until you see an improvement.
Other then that, you're hitting a wall with your particular E6600, not all chips will overclock the same. I had a E6 stepping 3000+ and while many reported 2.4-2.6GHz all i was able to get was 2.1GHz.
It's luck of the draw.
.. if his CPU was holding back then the fsb would go higher on a 7 or 8 multi. But he ends up with the same fsb wall no matter what multi- what does that tell you???

I think I've run through the process of elimination steps about 20 times now. SOMETHING is causing this wall. It's NOT the BIOS. F3 - F4c made absolutely no change whatsoever.
Surely my E6600 can do more than 2.8GHz?!?!? I mean that would be about as bad a luck as you could get - I don't think that would pass through Intel's stringent standards.
I have only tried +2 on MCH and no higher than 1.5Vcore, should I try +3 on MCH? I mean, I'm only trying to get to 318x9 stable here!

my input is this.
change the mch fsb and pci-e to auto
the ram you have, i know its 6400 and your running it less than that, its actually not even running 667.
put up @ 312 and use the memtest floppy and make sure your not getting any memtest errors.
try 1 stick of ram and see if you can go further.
there is truly something here stopping you and frankly, from what you have done thus far, have no idea.
a wall at such a low speed could mean the motherboard, or the cpu, it could mean the psu is just totally junk.
have you tried making a big jump in the fsb to like 375 to see if it boots ?
what happens if you set the ram to ddr800 ? or just set the dram freq to auto ? does that change anything ?
i'll be frank with you, as i am with everyone, i hate that ram your using. there isnt anything special about it. never has been never will be.
i can boot 420mhz FSB with auto mch fsb and pci i have never had a need to use any other settings.
this is with uber crappy samsung ddr 667 @ 840mhz. 5-5-5.
change your ram timings to auto. dram freq to auto mch to auto. vcore to 1.35 (there is no need at all to go any further and frankly an E6600 will do 3.2ghz on stock volts. so try sticking the vcore on auto.)
yank the mothebaord out examine it VERY closely the front and the back make sure you dont see any burnt or "odd" spots.
maybe its grounding out on the back side to the case ?
are you using the 24pin PSU connector ?
if you have the chance to try other ram do it.
other wise call gigabyte and rma it or buy another one.
that board has gotta be bad if your ram isnt causing the issue.

hey lestat quick question for you since you've been so helpful. Sometimes when messing with bios settings it will reboot and go back to default clocks. Then if i try previously good clocks they won't work, but if i load optimized defaults the previous good clocks work again.
Is this good enough or should i be clearing the CMOS after a clock failure?

Memory timings AUTO
Divider 2.0
I can't believe it!! Somehow increasing those voltages +1 held me back. I haven't tried any higher yet...just got done running PRIME STABLE!!!

I know this is by no means impressive or anywhere near 400FSB, but I'm so happy I can get this far STABLE after tearing my hair out for 2 days!!

Has anyone taking a voltage testing tool to see if the voltages actually match the settings in the bios? It seems like you have to set it a good .1 to .2 volts higher then spec to get things working with this board. The ram is a good example, people running it at 2.3 volts in the bios.
OK, After trying for 3.4GHz and failing with all previous settings, the computer shutdown and kept restating without posting. I had to reset the CMOS jumper.
Interesting news about the F4c BIOS: I NO LONGER have to use an el cheapo stick of RAM to get into BIOS. MY OCZ Platinums will now boot into BIOS long enough for me to get 'em to 2.1V!! That makes things A LOT easier!
OK, so now I think I need some more VCore and maybe 2.2V on VDIMM and Maybe +.1 on VMCH.

I had to up the VCORE to 1.45 on my E6600 @ 356x9 - it would run Prime stable all day long but would bomb immediately during the 3DMark05 CPU tests. I'm am now going to use 3DMark as my CPU OC stability tester. Prime told me I was fine when I wasn't.

ok.. now keep the vcore at 1.4v you technically should only need about 1.3 for 3.2ghz push the fsb right up to 400. put the vcore @ 1.35
now the trick here is to make sure the ram divider is at 2.00
that means your ram is 800mhz so make damn sure it can handle it
if you have the ocz XTC 5400 those suck hardcore. - sorry cant recall what you had. but the 5400's wont do 800 very well. they are a nasty set of 667 ram for overclocking.
keep trying man keep the mch fsb and the others at auto see how far you can go.

Well, I'm now @ 3.3GHz 367x9 rock solid.
I had to bump the VCore to 1.5V to get there though! It would run Prime fine @ 1.475V, but would not run the 3DMark05 CPU tests until I bumped it to 1.5V.
How much VCore is too much for an E6600 with an Ultra-120? The thing stays pretty darn cool according to EasyTune and SpeedFan - no more than 43C/44C.
I mean so far, the only thing helping me push up the FSB is upping the VCore. I guarantee if I try for 3.4GHz 378x9, I'll have to up the Vcore to at least 1.525V.
Is there something else I can do to not require so much CPU voltage?
Also, I think I do need a new PSU, during 3D benchmarks, I can hear my fans slow down ever so slightly :eek:

Yea I'm feeling a weak PSU. The OCZ GameXStreme 700W would be an excellent choice. I am going to pick one up before my next video card (R600 prolly, and those eat up a lot of energy).

YES if your fans are slowing down during 3d benches thats not good. your psu is really taking a beating.
