How much was this overclock?

I'm just comparing the vcore bios settings from the DH to this WS-Pro. this was done in the 3800-3900 mhz range. Whereas I set the voltage in the DH to around 1.51v would read in bios around 1.48v, the WS-Pro needs around 1.51 set to read around 1.56v in bios at equivilent settings on both boards. Keep in mind that the ws-pro bios reported vcore is as much as .05v over what it is set to, and in the DH, it was a bit lower than what it is set at. So it is very hard to compare apples to apples. In either case I'm not sure what the real vcore is without a multimeter read point of the WS-Pro??

Can you post some results? I'd like to see ow it does with a retail chip instead of an ES.

What would you like to see? If I can free up some time I'll post it back. I'm going to remount the cpu later and try to get a temp probe around the IHS area and get a vcore read from a nearby lead.

First, how high FSB you can take that 6800 and then drop the multi to 6 and go for highest FSB

Well really it would be nice to see if this board suffers same issue as -dh or not with using other than by spd settings at higher fsb like 430.
Also if using manual memory settings and different mem dividers works correct at that fsb.
The actual mem timings used makes no difference to me.

ive seen this question ask a couple of times but no one answered them

1) what are my multiplier options in bios with a x6800
2) what are the vcore and memory voltage ranges in bios
3) etc. etc. etc.
the bios options are the one thing you cant really tell about a board untill you have one plugged in and start playing with it. i dont need pictures or anything just a quick list of what my options are going to be.

vcore has more options than you will ever need. by the .125 icrements.
vdimm is max 2.4v
Vmch is max 1.8v
I haven't chosen any multi past 11 with the 6800, so i don't know how high. it goes as low as you want.
There are alos about six or so mem divider choices.

I'd list more for you but I'd have to reboot and write it all down. ;)

I've been messing around with vcore and temps all night, trying to figure out why this board needs higher vcore than the DH and why the cpu temps are so much higher reported than the DH.

As an example, 1.525vcore set in bios = 1.56 reading in windows = 1.591v reading at a coil leg with a DMM. Water idle temps in bios at stock boot are like 31 deg. At 1.53v at 3900mhz, bios reports cloe to 60's temp. Under load in windows at those settings temps reported by asus at 70 deg. (by the way the sides of my water block are not even warm and yes it is seated fine, checkd and reseated a few times) also the DH at the same settings was reporting about 10 to 15 degrees lower. Something is clearly off with those temps even with the higher voltage. In any case the system seems stable even at those rediculously high temp reports. Oh and the vdroop under load at say 1.58v drops down to 1.55v.

Sounds like a really nice board, im gona be running on SS Phase anyway so temps dont bother me, next time you reboot if you could just tell me how high the cpu multiplier goes i believe 11 is default for a x6800 i would like to know if it goes to at least 16 or 17?

Thanks for sharing all of this information, xgman. I have been contemplating whether to pull the trigger on this board or not. At this point I'm still not sure if it would be a significantly better solution than the DH, availability of PCI-X slots aside. I'm wondering if the high temperature readings are an anomaly of your particular board or something we can expect from all P5WDG2s. We need more input from some others that are using this board. I think that many people are showing very high temp readings in general on the Conroes. What is clear is that any voltage increase over default has significant temp increases, or at least reads that way. Because I have had no luck getting a temp probe in an area of the core that would show accurate temps as they relate to the on die temp sensor, I still don't really know what to think about the readings. I guess stability will rule the day in the end, temps aside. There is just something about watching temps in the 60's that is unsettling.

I got tired of waiting to find the P5W DH for cheap and DFI to release the RD600 so i guess i'm going to go ahead and try this board out since it looks pretty solid even though it's rather expensive but that's to be expected since it's a workstation board with more features. I ordered mine from eWiz for $299 today.

Question, how well is the heatpipe cooling going to work on this board when it's inverted in a Lian Li V series case? I'll have a 120mm fan blowing towards it which should help but i've got an Abit AB9 Pro right now and the heatpipe cooling on it sucks. The little NB sink gets so hot you can't stand to touch the center of it for more then a second.

xgman thanks for the multiplier numbers. As far as acurate temps go try this program it reads the core temps directly from the temp sensors built into the cpu, I used it on my newer amd fx processors and it works great. Its still in beta and im not sure why MB manufactures dont use this information but according to the guy who wrote the program all newer cpus have built in temp sensors actually in the core. this program reads the temps directly off the core of the cpu so you dont have to worry about motherboard bios calibration. Its free and the user interface is non existant but its a good way to get an acurate reading of what your core temps actually are and it has a seperate reading for each core. for example core1 -38c core2 -42c :) that was with an fx-62 using Single Stage phase cooler. There is a link this guys program on this site as well but i found this link faster so here it is. Also this guy claims that it works with conroe processors although i havent tested it yet.

I should be getting mine P5WDG2 WS Pro on monday or tuesday as well!

I will be pluging in a bunch of SATA drives and I WANT NO RAID FUNCTIONS!

I'm guessing that the Main 4 SATA II ports offer native SATA support and that XP will recognize them automatically during and after setup. Is this correct?

What about the other 3 ports? Do they also offer native support or is a driver needed for NON RAID functions.

If so, should the driver be installed during the windows setup or can it be done after the installation completes.

You shouldn't need any SATA drivers for installing on the ports that are run from the Intel host controller. Usually you only have to install drivers when you're dealing with a third party controller like Silicon Image or JMicron. And yes, if you did have to install a SATA driver it would have to be during windows setup.

The 4 main ports can be emulated as 2 IDE channels (from what I can see on my BIOS).

The three additional ports will require the driver install, but they can be single disks or as a part of a raid array.

I'm glad to see this board performing well as I've been waiting for exactly a board like this for a while. Are the pci-x slots affected by the OC or are they locked like the others? I've got a Emulex LP8000 and Intel Quad Gig-E card I'll have to run (since they chose marvell interfaces :( why not broadcom?!?!?!) as well as a megaraid 300-8x for an ESX 3 box I'm building.
