Sorry if this is a bit OT, but I was about to order the DS3 from newegg, and I noticed this thread.
Other than this issue, does the DS3 work with Conroe out the box without any BIOS flash? I don't have another 775 around.
Also, I've read a few things regarding the C1 stepping of the DS3 or I think it's the 965 in general, and how it runs hotter, and that there will be a C2 stepping released in September, which fixes issues with FSB, and Fast Acces Memory Architecture.

Nope - doesn't slow it down a bit. In fact some reviewer said he actually gained a bit of performance according to HDTach with one of his PATA HDDs using this adapter - I think my DVD burners will be just fine. :)Quote:

I have a request for a few bios fix updates please:
1) System Memory Multiplier is lacking options under value=2.00 so anyone wishing to overclock their budget Intel Core2Duo CPUs with low multiplier will be severely limited to 1:1 ratio. This board will lose lots of sales if this isn't corrected as budget users will most likely not buy really expensive PC8000 RAM to run this board properly with budget CPUs.
2) IDE DVDRW Drive is forced to PIO Mode when SATA Raid is enabled on the motherboard. The drive should run on DMA mode as it may get damaged if disks are burnt while in PIO mode
3) IRQ PROBLEM: Majority of important devices are assigned to IRQ=16 or 19. This ultimately will create performance problems. One issue present which may or may not be related is mouse pointer occasionally freezing up.
4) F3 bios unlike F1 bios does not show temperatures and voltages in BIOS any more. If memory is overvolted by 0.2V or more the bios shows an error. Please put that back.
5) Please enable real time reporting for all temperatures (CPU,MCH,ICH,system), voltages (PSU rails 12V/5V/3.3V) and Vcore, Vdimm, MCH volts
6) Memory timings with CAS=5 are not properly set in bios
7) Please increase Vdimm (DIMM Overvoltage Control) option up to +0.9V
This is a good motherboard for enthusiasts and these changes would me it GREAT!!!

hey dinos good job there with the screenies
i was too lazy to do that.
i did get a reply yesterday and all they said was.
funny they failed to read the friggin form they make you fill out cuz i gave them all that info already.Quote:
does it matter which raid 0 or raid 1?
Please provide us with your system configuration and the steps needed to duplicate your issue
Thank you
but i have high hopes for these guys it only took them 2 days to reply which is MUCH better than most places.
i dont think gigabyte is a very large company. which is good small companies usually kick arse.. ie; DFI.
ya, I miss dfi :/
i gotta say this guys.
do NOT be afraid to get this motherboard unless you want SLI/XFire then your SOL. id get the DQ6 or the BadAxe screw ASUS and anything they produce.
this is THE BEST $140 motherboard i have ever purchased aside from my old DFI SLI-DR. and i dont think anything can top that.
this, in my eyes, is currently THE BEST Conroe motherboard on the market right now.
the PIO mode issues is something that CAN be fixed with a bios or driver update.
i wouldnt concern yourself with it unless you really really need to run raid. just hold off and dont run raid for a while. wait until a fix is released.
and again
EVERYONE with this issue please go fill out that online trouble ticket, they will respond and the more people we have report this the more they are going to research it and try to fix it.
WOW they already replied..........anyone ever try getting a reply from Asus      :rolleyes:Quote:

holy f!Q$% christ
check out this response to my report to them

please provide a web-link or maybe some document for source and reference where it states that when most devices are assigned to 1 IRQ address will slow down system performance. We will perform further testing regarding your issue with your optical drives running in PIO mode
Thank you
holy :banana::banana::banana: i cant fvcking believe that harse crap.
you can dam well believe that their tehc support manager is getting a call from me in about the next 60 minutes.
prove to them ? wtf they have done nothing towards a resolution to this issue and twice now they come back with retarded remarks.
omfg!
This one is supposed to be better.

Does it slow down something for you? One IRQ is fine as long as there are no conflicts reported by OS, they still use different I/O and memory range. Everything is fine here with 1 IRQ :) It has LAN, video card and a few other things all at 16 but that does not bother me much :)
Kiwi , look at lestat his beginpost ;)
rattsabre:
What happends if you disable a few devices such as LAN, USB, serial ports etc?
I know about PIO, had the same prob but I wanna know about IRQ thing since I don't have any problems although I have the same IRQ assignments as in the first picture.Quote:

It is not really Intel chipset but rather integrated Jmicron controller that supports 2 sata ports (including raid) + PATA.
Is your disk partitioned? Or does win setup sees it as unpartitioned space?
There's effectively one large partition, windows setup sees the partition but only reports it as a 30gb partition although its a 200gb drive with only about 4gb of unused space. When in windows in drive properties it's reported as unformatted, File system - raw.
The above statment makes no sense.
hopefully it makes sense now
Lestat you really need to calm down man .........for your own sake
get a ATA to SATA adapter and don't worry about it
IRQ stuff isn't giving you a specific issue is it now
most of which work poorly, if at all, with ODDs unfortunately.Quote:

ok i been going round with gigabyte tech support for over a week now.
they dont even have skilled phone support all they have done ever god damn time i call is tell me to fill out that 100% retarded web pased report where it takes 2-4 days for them to reply.
well here is gigabytes response to IDE DEVICES RUNNING IN PIO MODE.
http://ggts.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList...7/mvc-627f.jpg
1)Quote:
we are unable to test your issue regarding the PIO mode, we have setup raid 0 on the GigaSATA controller and under it does auto detect as DMA mode and it does give you the option to select PIO or DMA. Please refer to the attached pictures.
As for the IRQ, it has all been validated by our testing departments and if there was any problem or error in performance they would of picked it up and modify it before releasing the model.
they dont even have a fvking IDE devices hooked to the motherboard. hello you morons device manager CLEARLY shows you dont even have any.
It detects DMA mode no im sorry son it doesnt detect anything!
2)
refer to number one.
3)
every bloody time i call in i get shoved to this retarded web form. you guys are lazy and cant even support your own product. why do you even answer the phones!!??
4)
this is very clearly a lie and a blatant attempt to decieve the consumer except they are so dumb they didnt even notice that their screen shot shows they arent even using any IDE devices.
this is the type of support that 100% loses customers.
if there is any gigabyte employee anywhere in this forum i would suggest you step up and represent your company and look into this issue.
i thought for sure gigabyte was gunna be one of those good companies, i was 100% wrong, and i regret even buying this board.
99.99% of the time i dont need any suport but when there is an issue i expect, no, let me rephrase that, i demand that a company stand behind their product and offer the support that they offer when you purchase their product.
i cant stress this enough.
Using RAID with the gigabyte board will 100% of the time FORCE your IDE devices into PIO mode.
this WILL damage those devices.
Burning is impossible at PIO mode.
continued attempts to burn will very quickly damage your dvd burner and you will NOT be able to burn anything anymore.
please if there is a gigabyte employee here step up to the plate and represent your company. show me everyone in that company isnt as dumb as the guy who is supposedly troubleshooting this issue.
