Just to bring this up from a couple pages back but what are you on about theteamaqua....Quote:

I theory the X6800 will be a higher binned part than the E6700 and so the silicon should be higher quality, but you'll always get the odd 'alien' chip on the lower speed grades, same as you'll see some higher bin chips that disappoint to some degree. Since more retail chips will be produced than Engineering Samples assume there will be a greater degree of speed binning.
And lets face it, a Core 2 at 'only' 3.8GHz will be faster than a LN2 cooled FX-60/62 system anyway, and on air you are likely to see higher clock speeds and a greater IPC ;)
That's completely beside the point. How about you just leave AMD out of the discussion altogether? The ES chips made everyone think 50% OC was there on a plate and now the retail chips won't do it. If I'd bought a retail X6800, like Andre I'd be gutted with these benchmarks too. As it is I've bought a retail E6700 in the expectation that the performance would be a quantum leap faster than what I already have. That expectation has taken a hit. I live in hope, as ever, but that's all there is to it.Quote:

I think folks need to relax a little.
Life is all about expectations....
1/ it wasn't long ago that FCG said "4 GHz on air, trust me"
2/ Several regulars here seem to have bought the X6800 retail. Number who have posted amazing 4GHz+ results = 0.
Let me be miserable now so I can cheer up when my chip arrives and is stunning. ;)
i dont think their will be much speed binning this early on. i to would be disapointed with the X6800 that andrea has. especialy since E6600 are clocking just as good.
Also all you people with ES chips sayin your glad you bought a ES?
intel apparently is instructing mobo makers to drop support for ES chips with new bios updates. so your chip wont work unless u stay with the old bios.
Fair enough :) I sincerely wish you the best of luck and that you end up with a super clocker:toast:Quote:

I was really hoping for 3.2 ghz as that is what my wife wanted . because she had a P4c 3.2 ghz. Well she lucked out and got a retail X6800 and Bad ass M/B from her bother inlaw for $600 total. It is running at 3.85 ghz DDR@ 667 @ DDR2 700 @ 1:1 using Corsair 5400ul @ 3-2-2-8 with the cpu bus speed of 350 and FSB of 1400. So we are very pleased. Her brother inlaw said he could hook me up with a Kentsfield for about the same money when he can get his hands on a retail model. So were not dissapointed in the Conroe CPU at all. Fact is were really very happy with our watercooled setup.
Huh? That's backwards, no? (Havn't read animal farm in a while though, correct me if wrong).Quote:

I agree. before seeing insane ES clock, we were all dreaming of 3.2-3.6Ghz.
We didn't even believe FCG (I think it's him) when he said 4Ghz on air would be possible. That was a insane comment not even 5 weeks ago.
Maybe the last ES were hand picked, but the hype of the first ES is still there. The only thing bad about this is the X6800 have much less interest now.
Fact is....even at 3.6GHz, this is equivalent to a FX-62 speed no AMD (not just the FX-62....) has ever reached, and the Conroe's 24/7 stable at 3.6 on air. Like all overclocking, there will be some gems that WILL hit 4GHz (heck, 4GHz air stability has already happened, just depends how stable you want it).
Many of the whitebox Step 5s WERE handpicked (OCAU getting to 4GHz 1M stable, stock cooler, low volts...), but these are still damn good, especially considering they have a warranty and a gorgeous box.
EDIT: by handpicked I mean the whole Stepping 5...yes there have been bad ones, but the average is GREAT, and the top ones are just insane....Step 6 may turn out to be the same way after more samples, but it's just too early to tell, let's be honest.
Definitely need more population to conclude on these.
The X6800 is a $1000 cpu. My wife wouldn't have one if I had to pay that much for it. Its not that I couldn't afford it . Its just that were not extreme O/Cers which this chip is meant for. For us stability @ a fair O/C is all we want . and Conroe did not disappoint. The first time I read that Conroe did 4ghz on air I fell out of my chair in disbelief. When it hit 5ghz I was stunned.Quote:

Have you tried overclocking only with the multi?
15x266 or something like that
