thanks guys... 3dmark results coming next :D
I haven't even shorted the oc debug pin yet on my above results hehe.. all i did was flash to custom modded 1304 bios i made using ITK app :DQuote:

thanks :)I'm using modded 1304 bios with default strap set at 1333fsb but with -20 negative burnin by default, so you still get 266fsb for default cpu and with 533 divider you still get 1:1 :DQuote:

Ya need ITK method of bios update outlined at http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=96648
1.45v bios - only the 5 files missing the winxp bootable floppy created files so do that yourself or grab them from other 2 bioses below.
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...3fsb/1.45v.zip
1.50v bios one i'm using now gives me 1.441v real vcore
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...3fsb/1.50v.zip
1.55v bios - have yet to try myself yet will do next in light of my below 3dmark05 results below
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...3fsb/1.55v.zip
Note, use at your own risk, i take no responsibility for any damages done when using the above 3 bioses :)
Okay here's what ya been waiting for I guess, some 3dmark action :)
Thought I'd start off with my 2x 256MB BFG 7800GTX @473(525)/1350 for all below tests in SLI mode with some special drivers :D
System:

Seems quickest way to find stability is 3dmark05 cpu test equivalent to my 2hr dual stressprime run at 3750mhz at 1.441v :)
Reminder, all above scores are with 2x 256MB BFG 7800GTX @473(525)/1350!
Now comapre this to my best FX-60 score so far with 2x 256MB BFG 7800GTX stock HSF @493(541)/1370-77

I'll do oc'd SLI tests next :D
now correct me if i am wrong here. but it looks liek it took the Conroe to run at 3.4 to run almost even, in 3dmark atleast, with the FX-60 @ 3.4
that sound about right ?
why does this seem not right ?
or does the FX just scale that good ? considering the bus and ram speed of the conroe wouldnt one want to believe that the conroe would be just kicking the crap out of the FX-60 ?
Nah re-read ;)
E6600 @3422mhz was with cards @473(525)/1350
vs
FX-60 @3408-3440mhz with cards @493(541)/1377
cards clocked higher on FX-60 :)
the fx60 cards arent clocked higher enough to make any difference at all.
20mhz doesnt make any difference on these cards. you have to overclock them quite a bit to get a rise out of them.
E6600 @ 3.4
vs
FX-60 @ 3.4
shows almost similar 3dmark scores regardless of the 10mhz difference in clocks.
that just doesnt seem right
the FX-60 has EXTREMELY low FSB and memory while the E6600 has very high FSB and memory.
i mean lets be honest thats real world stuff Eva...
some real game benchmarks would result in a more true to life result.
now try some multimedia and other benches,, thats where i think the conroe is going to truly shine.
try to setup the FX 60 with a higher HTT and memory so the memory speeds and such are closer together and try it.
what im seeing goes against eveything else that i have been seeing.
unless im not seeing something here that FX is hanging right in there with the conroe which has a much higher overclock and fsb and ram/bus speed.
i cant think right off the top of my head what the stock clock on an FX-60 is.
FX-60 has cold bug hence low HTT heh. But yes real world for 3dmark/gaming conroe's margin over FX-60 @3.4ghz at least is alot less heh.
FX-60 stock is 13x200HTT = 2600mhz heh
Okay first oc'd SLI test

2x 512MB OCZ PC5400 Plat XTC maxes at 2.2v @423-426mhz 4-4-4-8/15
2x 512MB Corsair PC5400ULv1.5 Fatbody D9 Micron so far at 2.2v @506mhz 4-4-4-15  and still haven't tried higher yet.
Click image for full timings and mem screenshot
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975..._single_tn.png
At 3649Mhz 9x405fsb and 4:5 506mhz 4-4-4-15 only 8 seconds slower than @3809Mhz (9x423fsb) and ram @423mhz 4-4-4-8 of 15min 05s!
5400ULv1.5 now at 3816Mhz 9x424fsb 4:5 with ram @530mhz 4-4-4-15 at 2.2v
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975..._single_tn.png
Crazy 530mhz 4-4-4-15 at 2.2v which is 33 seconds faster than @3809Mhz (9x423fsb) and ram @423mhz 4-4-4-8 of 15min 05s :D
I'm back on 1067fsb strap and with E6600 only having 9x multiplier had to do 9x389fsb 1:1 with ram at 389mhz 4-4-4-5 at 2.2v
seems with my 2x512MB PC5400ULv1.5 ram i can do 389fsb easy with 1067fsb strap straight boot from bios - stock unmodded badaxe rev304
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975..._15m06s_tn.png
I loose 438-389 = 49mhz off memory clocks compared to a E6700 @10x350fsb 4:5 438mhz 4-4-4-5 and loose +20s off 32M with 2x512MB vs 2x1GB heh
Getting the hang of this board and cpu now, 1067fsb strap with 9x400fsb with 2x512MB PC5400ULv1.5 @400mhz 4-4-4-5 at 2.2v straight boot from bios with +50% burnin.
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...4min42s_tn.png
This is what it takes on Badaxe with 1304 bios for 2x 512MB modules on 1067fsb strap 1:1 cpu:mem to break 14min 28s single 32M. Booted straight from bios at 9x400fsb and used clockgen to raise fsb to 404.7fsb for 3646Mhz with ram @404mhz 4-4-3-5 at 2.2v
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...4min27s_tn.png
Crazy 1067fsb strap with 9x411fsb = 3703mhz with 2x512MB PC5400ULv1.5 ram @411mhz 4-4-3-5 at 2.2v totally unmodded badaxe rev304.
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...4min12s_tn.png
@9x415fsb 4-4-3-5 at 2.2v!
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...4min05s_tn.png
@9x418fsb 4-4-3-5 at 2.2v breaks 14min for 1st time :D
http://fileshosts.com/intel/Intel975...3min57s_tn.png
I wonder if how high fsb you can clock on 1067fsb is memory dependent ? i.e.
on 1067fsb with 2.2v vdimm 1304 bios
2x256MB Centon PC4300 Advance Micron D9 fatties = max 382fsb
2x512MB OCZ PC5400 Platinum XTC = max 378fsb
2x512MB Corsair PC5400ULv1.5 Micron D9 fatties = so far completed 32M upto 418fsb and doing 32M run @421fsb!
Decided to change the stock northbridge (MCH) heatsink as it appears better MCH/NB cooling = higher FSB :)
Easiest way to remove stock bad axe NB heatsink is to:
1. Unhinge the spring on one side
2. See in this pic here , the 2 diamond club shape tabs at top of heatsink. Unhinge them from the heatsink and the black clips just falls off.
I installed my 2nd Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II chipset cooler, 169g of copper goodness @19dba fan noise :D

Eva2000, just wanted to say that this is one of the cleanest and best organised threads I've ever seen. Beautiful.
Interesting results as well, seems that the FX isnt far behind clock for clock and that Conroe's main advantages are higher stable speeds with less cooling and the absence of coldbug.
What is the difference in °C between the stock and the Spirit?Quote:

What are the temps Load Idle?
Looks sweet, that Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II chipset cooler. Looks like full copper, right? :slobber:

eva: Do the caps around the socket give you any trouble with the Storm, would it be possible for you to mount it vertically (as opposed to horizontally like you have now) without issues?
yeah full copper = 169g :D
whoops 3dmark05 hehQuote:

only mounting the way i pictured other way the blue heatsinks are too tall and get in the way that and if you could mount storm other way, it would obstruct the space for a 3rd party chipset cooler if you intend to use one hehQuote:
